I'm a beginner.....Glock 19 vs Walther P99

I like my guns without bells & whistles. You don't need loaded chamber indicators...

I'm not sure I'd consider a dab of red paint on top of the extractor to be a "bell & whistle"... ;)

VVG, the p99 is MA compliant. be careful, the sw99 is <in my opinion> a cheap knock off...if you are going to pick up one of these models, spend the extra $30 and get the walther...it's worth the money and more.

"sidewalk commandos" that's cute. many of the people here have more experience with these sorts of things, a large number are LEOs. bottom line is any time that you are in a situation where you need to draw a concealed weapon it could go either way, we all just hope to hell that it goes our way. "If you are better than him, and you shoot him under the wrong circumstances, you're looking at $100's of thousands of $$ in legal bills." define "wrong circumstances" do you mean, he draws a weapon on you and you draw one back and get into a standoff?? or he draws a weapon on you, you draw one and he runs you shoot him in the back?? quite honestly, as far as the gore comment, personally i'm not going to care at all about being coated with gore if i have survived a life threatening situation. i can take a shower and either clean the clothes or get rid of 'em.

i do agree with the taking of CCW classes, learning how not to be a victim. can you tell me the places where a person might be held up at gunpoint?? so that way i can avoid them. maybe this means i should never leave my house, nobody can get me in there.

i don't mean to "sound off" here, but some of your advice is questionable in my opinion.

good shooting and good luck.

Ala Dan,

Ok, I see your point now. (Me and my slow brain :) )

Yes, if you want to throw a gun under the seat get the Glock. It's already ugly, so a few scratches might give it soem character. The P99 was designed by a former Glock engineer and thus has a lot of features that the Glock does. Hence the Tenifer finish. The P99 also had to live up to German Police and military standards, which are very similar to all the tests that have been done on a Glock. Although who wants to run over a P99 with a Hum Vee? It's too nice looking to do that. A glock on the other hand....:D

Just a few more questions I promise ;)

What is the difference between the P99 and P990?

The millenium gun-- is that just a limited edition model?

Just curious--
which do you prefer the military green or classic black?

adept-

With all due respect, like I said in a previous
poll; "If one has to buy the high capacity mag's
as an added bonus, then too me it's not worth it".
Fine and dandy if the firearm comes with hi-caps;
but its my understanding they are shipped with
10 rounder's, right? I guess I'm accustomed to
my Sig P220 with seven round mag's; or my Sig
P228 that came with (2) high cap's.

Walther's are definitely good firearms; I would
not hesitate to own one. But I have got great
satisfaction (and result's) with the Sig's.
Same holds true for Glock's. Great weapons,
and I've owned a few: G17, G23, and G27. But
I would still rather have my Sig's. I guess
its good that we all don't like the same thing,
UH? Have a wonderful day.

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, Life Member N.R.A.

Squeeze,

The P99 has a DA/SA trigger. The P990 is a long DA only trigger. The P99QA it a Short (some would say) DA trigger, similar to Glocks trigger.

The Millenium is a limited edition P99 with special laser engraving to commemorate the year 2000.

I like all of the colors. Thats why I have all of them. :D
I 've got the P99, P99QPQ, P99 Military, P99QA and P99QA Military.

I do like the military version the best however.

CCW

>>>i don't mean to "sound off" here, but some of your advice is questionable in my opinion.

What I mean about shooting someone under the wrong circumstances is that if you shoot someone and that person or his relatives or estate sues you, you are going to be on the hook for all the legal expenses required to justify the shooting. I know a Boston polceman who just retired and was given a Presentation Glock - which he promptly sold. Why? He was concerned that he would not have the agency and/or union to back him up.

The gentleman who started the thread lives in Rhode Island, which like MA, has very low rates of violent crime (unless you count aggressive drivers, in which case we move to the top). So let me summarize my advice, "Until you've had more training and experience, the upside for CCW is limited and the downside is significant." I have no idea what it is like elsewhere in terms of threat to personal saftey, and a small man carrying a lot of money or a woman working at night would have more significant personal security concerns.

Since 911, gun course registrations are up 10 fold around here, there's obviously a personal security concern but I don't hear the LEO's talking about encouraging new gun owners to CCW - it's the Sidewalk Commandos. Let me guess, you favor .45 ACP over 9mm because it has more "stopping power"? I think people should be able to CCW - but I don't think they should HAVE to!
