Yeah Madmag, I didn't want to get into this aspect..... Since you mentioned it however, I will note that it is causing severe problems with younger or middle-to-low income folks affording housing here. When 20 people are willing to live in one house it becomes a driving factor in the housing price increases in the area.

Twenty people have a much better chance of affording a highly-inflated mortgage/rent payment than the traditional one two to three-member family. This has adverse effects on, say, the young family that wants to have a home of their own and cannot afford a place because the payment is more than they can afford with wages in the area. Twenty illegals in one place can afford it on $6/hr though, so they have a house. Glad we imported a lower-quality lifestyle into America...... that's the dream we all heard about, right?

I'll take the "same old suspects" tag on this one. I lived between Delta and Fairbanks for a while, so I know first-hand that how incorrect you are in your argument. There were some interesting individuals up there, but most of them just wanted to be left alone. They were by no means invading, sapping the system, and flaunting it; quite the contrary - we rarely saw them in town and they liked it that way. Not that I would mind some encounters; I've had some interesting conversations with those old seclusionists up there..... some of them have been places and seen things that I can only read about. They didn't say much, but when they did you couldn't help but listen.

LAK, I did note that on this housing issue, that many builders are also very much at fault. I viewed new homes in our area just North of San Diego that were built new tho have 8 bedrooms. These homes were in regular neighborhoods and appeared on the outside to be like any other two story home. IMO, these builders are as guilty as the illegals that they are catering to.

They are Mad, as are the lenders. They are many here that are completely corrupt and have no problem falsifying information so that people with inadequate incomes and no papers can get into a home. There are so many "stated income" neg-ams going into foreclosure here that there are actually criminal investigations going on right now. Well, there's nothing wrong with gettin' out while the gettin's good! With all of the illegal aliens, crime, cost of living, and statist laws I don't blame you a bit. I thought it was normal here until I spent some time in Wyoming, Alaska, and Oregon. My wife and I are looking at going back to WY as soon as we can match our current income with income from our online ventures.

Well if you can convince 12 million illegal immigrants to wear uniforms, or even just openly bear arms against us, I'm sure we'd have a much easier time spotting them and rounding them up. Until then, they actually blend in pretty well with the other 30 million or so legal Latino residents, and rooting them out for deportation would be fairly difficult without trampling on the rights of those same legal residents. Unlike an invading army that would actually be pretty easy to spot, and which we could simply shoot on sight. So this bit of rhetoric is absolute nonsense.

Not to say the problem can't be addressed...as should be mentioned in any thread on illegal immigration, the easier method is to start dropping the hammer on any business (or individual) that hires them. Start making them use the tools already at their disposal, and develop new ones, to determine legal status on hiring. Or more accurately, to take away their plausible deniability on hiring them. Dry up the source of jobs, and many will walk home all on their own...and less will come over from here on out.

Of course, I'd like to see this as well as greatly increased legal immigration...but that's just because I'm not into the whole nativism thing. My ancestors came over from Europe poor and dirty just like most people's.

Additionally, (not necessarily aiming this at you, madmag) I'm really starting to get tired of the anti-'race card' card. That, on occasion, someone does say something that actually indicates discrimination, and that an accusation of prejudice is dismissed without validation.

Why point out prejudiced opinions, which the predjudice is apparent? Because on a public forum that can be perceived as a representation of gun owners in general, one should not be so condoning of bad attitudes. Criticizing certain people of racist opinions is no less or more important than criticizing those who are trigger-happy, unsafe, and/or full of conspiracy theories.

There's a reason why I stay away from the illegal immigration threads. Level-headed discussion always turn into wars wars between "liberal sympathizers" versus "let's set up a shooting range at the border" types, which eventually boils down a few people pointing out the racist comments of closet racists, who then start talking about the "race card." But this time, the prejudices in several comments were just too egregious to ignore.

Applesanity: this post about racism is needed and true. And it will be attacked. And this is the ugly underside to the immigration debate that I meant when I started the thread. And its rearing its head here the reason I left off following it. My last post aways back, was the summation of any argument I had. This is not all off course, but enough are out there to cast into doubt their objectivity on the subject of immigration.

Race is transitional in any case. It is a temporary, minor skin and body genetic adaptation to a people's climate in a particular locale that changes when they intermarry and migrate to a different locale. The whitiest of the white KU KLUX KLANer, was Slavic, Black, Asian etc. in the past and "Surprise Granddaddy!": but your great-great (etc.) grandchildren may well be what you call those "Mexican ne'er do wells". And in the meantime, you're also, undoubtedly, not as WHITE as you think.

I have to scratch my head here and wonder why there are so many people willing to take the side of foreign criminals.....

The bottom line is that we have somewhere between 12 and 25 million illegal aliens here (depends on which estimate you wish to believe).

Mexico is a country run by drug cartels/gangs and corrupt politicians/police/military.

The same people who are making lots of $$ with these activities are coming here. If you think that's BS I invite you to come stay here in central California (where I live), where nearly all violence revolves around Mexican/ South American gangs and drugs. It's worse is Southern California I hear...

Our hospitals are strained to the breaking point by the massive demand placed on them by illegals. Our social programs are in the same state....

I don't like my identity/SSN being stolen so a foreigner can be here illegally and find work so they can send money back to their home country.

I don't like American jobs being stolen from American citizens by foreign invaders.

The list goes on....

We have enough of our own problems without absorbing the problems of a another country through a massive invasion of their people.

There is NOTHING racist about it. I would have these feelings about ANY group that was invading my country and trashing it like this. Build a BIG, ELECTRIFIED fence, throw employers who hire illegals in jail, DEPORT all the illegal aliens that can be found, and take all the able-bodied welfare recipients off the handout system and make them do the "jobs Americans won't do." If they don't want to get dirty they can starve; if I can do it so can they.

Simple solutions for those with the will to carry them out - border security so they can't come back, remove the carrot from the string, toss 'em out, and fill the jobs.
