If you were in the army and got to pick your handgun what would it be?

Gonna second the FN FiveSeven. It should be NATO standard issue. The caliber to replace anything 9mm.

Or maybe I would be THAT guy, and carry a gold Desert Eagle just for the kick of it, no pun intended.

It would be the Zf-1 from 5th Element. Lazer heat rayed, freeze rayed, rocketed, full auto fistful of doom.

or maybe just a P226. I can't decide.

Sig X-Five Tactical.

If I can bring a nice supply of 10mm with me, it would be the original EAA Tanfoglio Stock 10mm.:D

As a photographer in S.E. Asia we had the choice of carrying a beat to sxxt 1911-A1 with pitted barrel or an M-16. Since we had to carry 1,000 ft of film and a camera that worked better as a boat anchor we ussually picked the .45. The combat types were thrilled when a doofus photographer showed up with a pistol, finally traded for an M-79 and increased my popularity with the real troopies. While there for 22 months I saw exactly 3 handguns that weren't 1911-A1s. One older sergeant either mech cav, or infantry carrying a Colt 1917, some not a regular army type carrying a Hi-Power and an ARVN probably Major, can't remember the Vietnamese word (tui ta?) carrying a P-38.

I guess I'd pick a nonbeat to sxxt 1911or the Hi-Power, but Im an old guy.

What army in the world deploys the least, and has the cushiest benefits? Switzerland maybe? I'll take whatever their issue pistol is. 20 years of noncombat service and then socialist retirement benefits for me, thanks.

My dear forum colleagues - I think we have exhausted the topic and now are reduced to funnies.

Thus, it's closed.

Until phasers are invented it will be the M-9, some 1911s and M-11, except for that Navy Seal that only you know who carries a Glock 7 (which you can't afford).
