If you wanted best handguns in 9mm/10mm/.45acp,auto/.44magnum which ones would be?

Sig or HK for 9mm and 45 ACP.

I heard good things about the Perfect 10, but the Glock is much cheaper for 10mm. There are really no affordable guns that chamber 10mm that I actually "like."

Can't go bad with Ruger for 44 mag.

9 mm Don't consider ever having one.

Huh? Are you saying you've never considered owning one or are you telling him not to?

9mm: CZ-75, Hi Power, Beretta 92, M&P, Walther PPQ.... too many good one's to list them all.

.40: Same as 9mm

.45: CZ-97

.44 mag: Ruger Redhawk

10mm: Don't know *yawn* don't really care for my purposes it doesn't do anything that cannot be covered by other existing calibers.

And yes I went to the trouble of making a second post because the Judge doesn't belong in the same post with a Browning. Sorry.

Don't be sorry... Thats the truth of it.

My opinion:

9MM Sig 210,
CZ 75,
HK P7M8

10MM
I can’t say. I have not shot a bad one yet by any maker, but none have impressed me more than the others.

45 ACP.
S&W M25 “Mountain gGun”
Nighthawk

44 Magnum
Freedom Arms in a Single Action is without doubt the very best I have ever had in my hand.
Ruger Redhawk gets high marks.
Older S&W M29 made in the 60s or early 70s for quality.

9 mm Don't consider ever having one.

10mm Custom Ruger Blackhawk .38-40/10mm

.45 ACP Colt Gold Cup (blue). They don't come any better.

.44 Magnum Ruger Super Blackhawk

.45 Colt Ruger Super Blackhawk, set up as a Super Blackhawk

P.S. You overlooked .45 Colt. I corrected that.

Looks are secondary?

Me likes the way Bob thinks but I'm gonna make a couple tweeks....

9mm - I don't consider having one very often but there are days when a Browning or CZ appeals to me.

10mm - don't ever consider owning one.

Big bores, all lumped together, .44's and .45's - For SA give me a.45colt/.45 acp convertable Ruger. For DA give me an older S&W .45acp or .44sp. I don't want or need a .44M.

Looks are equal to reliability. Without both just stay home.

I'm saying I'd never consider owning one. Had a Luger many years ago ($49.95) determined then I'd have a good .357 Magnum instead. Ammunition has certainly improved since that time, but still not a fan of the 9mm.

That said...if it absolutely has to work (and ignoring my above stated preference for beauty as well as function), in 9mm, if forced to use that over-rated, piddling caliber, I'd pick a Glock 19, Don't care about 10mm's, but a Colt 70 Series vintage Combat Commmander in .45 ACP perks well in my hands, and in .44 Magnum, I'd reach for any of the Ruger Single Actions...I'm particularly fond of the Flat Tops. 1. 9mm: CZ-75B or CZ-75B compact. I've never found a pistol with a more ergonomic grip.

2. 10mm: Glock 20. More rugged than other options and holds 15 rounds of 10mm. Easy conversion to .40 S&W.

3. .44 Mag: Probably a .44 magnum lever action rifle, but if I have to choose a handgun, then S&W Model 29 or 629. More refined than the Ruger and not as bulky. If you actually did shoot enough to wear it out, then the factory would fix it for free.

4. .45 ACP: S&W 625, I guess, maybe a 1911 if that's your thing. You could make a strong argument that if you own a 10mm, then you don't need a .45. If you're a reloader, then .40 projectiles are cheaper than .45, especially when comparing typical bullet weights.

I have minimal experience with the 10mm, but my observation is that it is a better cartridge than most guns chambered for it.

From what I've observed in the field, the 10mm is very flat shooting and provides greater range than other auto pistol cartridges, and it works well in Ruger Blackhawk revolvers with good adjustable sights. Seems it is very close to the .41 Magnum in performance.

This from observation, not from actual firing experience.

9mm-Glock 17
10mm- a Bren10
45 acp- a Ruger vaquero 45 colt with 45 acp cylinder
44 mag- a classic model 29

Explaining the 45 auto, my experience with 45 auto weapons has been very, very poor, so the revolver for me.

I experimented with the .45 Auto several years back. I had had considerable experience with the .45 firing the M1911A1 on an Army pistol team. But several years ago I had a Colt Gold Cup in .45 ACP and a Smith & Wesson Model 625 in .45 ACP.

The Gold Cup was deadly for small varmints out to about seventy-five yards or so with the Sierra 185gr. JHC bullet. But the round really shined in the Smith loaded with Accurate Powder. I had my loads analyzed by Accurate and they okayed their use in revovlers, but not to be used in auto pistols. As I recall I was pushing the 185gr. JHC at 1300 fps or so.

They may not be the best in everyone's opinion, but I would REALLY like the following.

9mm - Sig P210
10mm - Colt Delta Elite (actually already have this one)
.45acp - Les Baer Premier Ii (or old style Colt Combat Elite)
.44mag - SW 629 with 6 inches

If you wanted best handguns in 9mm/10mm/.45acp,auto/.44magnum which ones would be?
- Glock
- Don't have any interest in a 10mm- but if I did and if they make one -Glock
- Glock - model 30 to be exact
- S&W model 29.

Do I like Glocks..
Not only no - but - hell no.
Soulless pieces of plastic w/a weird funky trigger.

I do have to give the devil his due though..
Glock makes a robust and reliable machine that does exactly what it's supposed to do.

Now - if you ask me what do I prefer.
- Hi Power
- absolutely no 10mm or even a .40S&W for that matter
- Colt Commander
- S&W model 29.

The guns I've owned, and with which I've been very satisfied:
Browning Hi-Power
Colt Delta Elite
Colt Government Model/S&W Thunder Ranch M22
S&W M29

Hmmm...

9mm: SIG P226 Tacops/Blackwater

10mm: Colt Delta Elite

45acp: SIG P220

44 Magnum: S&W M29

May I throw in a .22? Ruger Mark Series Bullnose.

Cool thing is, I own 4 out of those 5. I'm about to buy a 10mm, but it is going to be a Glock 29, which would be better for my use. I'd love to get a 45 Colt as well in one of the Rugers (Blackhawk or Vaquero).

9mm - Sig 226

10mm - Colt Delta

.45 ACP - Colt 1911

.44 Magnum - Smith & Wesson 29

.45 Colt - Ruger New Model Vaquero

The best depends on what the intended use is, SD/HD, plinking, competition, hunting. My best gun, IMO, for SD is my XD40 Sub Compact, plinking is a Mark III and I don't own a handgun suitable for hunting.
