Left Brain
- Single 6 .22/.22 Mag Convertible - cheap plinking/practice and can still bring home the dinner or dispatch a varmint or snake if needed.
- S&W 65 Lady Smith (K .357) - effective SD in a reasonably compact, reliable, controllable and carryable package.
Right Brain
- Single Six .32 H&R Mag - no more pleasurable shooting exists IMO, and decent enough "pow!" to let you know it's no ".22 anything" and can handle varmints and small game and even an occasional mid-size predator type when called upon.
- Ruger New Vaquero .44 Special Sheriff - what I just said about the .32 Mag, just everything bigger - "pow!", critters, SD, in a big bore Old West- reminiscent package that's still "carryable."
No semi-auto "zombie" guns here and admit that's a failing, but these are my visceral choices ("you're magically stranded on a large jungle island for an indeterminate time and told that, while no militia or terrorist bands are present, there may be two, four or no-legged dangers of otherwise unknown/unspecified nature...and can have one handgun and 'some' ammo."). I'll add a Commander 1911 .45 or Smith M&P.40c back in at least as as an Honorable Mention--just because it sounds right
. However, when push comes to shove, unless presented with a specific zombie scenario, my first thoughts run to a nice revolver--or two.
