Rifles:
1. 22LR Mauser Mm 410 B.
2. 30/06 Commercial Mauser Obendorf
Both rifles used only for the actions and rebuilt to my own measure and specification.
Revolvers:
1. 22LR S&W 617.
2. 357 Mag. S&W 386.
The revolvers I view just as an insurance policy. I would be open to many other choices.

Handguns:

Smith & Wesson Model 19
Smith & Wesson Model 18

Long Guns

Savage 99 in .300 Sav. OR a Remington 700 in either .308 or .30-06.

A 12-gauge shotgun, S&W, Remington, Winchester, or Mossberg, no great matter which.

1: Crossfires new toy, the .223/12 gauge combo

2: 338, big kick, but wil drop anything

3: 1911 45, cause of the sweetness of the weapon

4: glock: not sure if I would want the big or the little 45 with high cap mags

What are we using these guns for? Are we in combat, CCW, survival for the rest of our lives? Makes a lot of difference in the choices.
If I am in combat then only 2 weapons:
.45 ACP Tuned 1911
M14 type rifle, lots of mags

How do you carry 2 handguns and 2 longguns?
Not aiming to spoil the fun of the game.

I was thinking for rest of life and beyond (ie generations). For any and all needs/wants that you would use guns for.

As to how to carry it would depend a bit on your choices but two hand guns and a long gun is not that bad. In my experiance balance is a bigger issue than wt. A double shoulder or belt holster or thigh holsters are far more comfortable for me with handguns.

You can carry one long gun slung with one in your hands but I wouldn't recomend it for any period of time.

With my 629 I usually carry it opposite to a canteen or hatchet so that the balance is about even.

The P 11 is so light [14 oz empty 21 loaded] that it usually doesn't matter for comfort where it is carried.

One of the reasons for my questions like this one are to help focus my priorities. I don't have all the guns I want yet. And I am sure it will take 5 or 10 years for me to have all the ones I want. But I waste many hours trying to decide which one(s) to buy next to maximize my utility/fun.

One thing I have noticed is that the general decisions that informed people make are very similar. They address certain roles almost always: plinking, hunting big and/or small game, CCW, home defense, beauty (in the eye of the shooter),or competition. They may pick a 9mm, 357, 40, or 45 for CCW but they all basically fall into that "group". For big game hunting most pick a "deer" caliber.

For me I picked the P11 or G 30 for CCW. The 629 works great for home defense with silvertips or Gold dots in 44 special. ANd for hunting/hiking the 44 gets loaded with mags.

The M1a Scout is for "general purpose" use.

The 340 is a big enough bore for any critter short of elephant. Yet it shoots flat and has little wind drift. If forced to live on factory loads I would go with the 338 Win instead of the 340.

An AR15 carbine, a Remington 870 shotgun, a Glock full sized frame in any caliber bigger than 9mm, and a S&W J-frame that can handle +P+ 38 special or .357. That's two and two for ya! I was tempted to substitute a Remington 700 bolt gun in .308 for the SG but long range shots are not quite as common and a SG is good to have around the house.

Long guns:
1. HK G-3 w/ standard S-E-F selector.
2. Remington 870 (without the "dimples" in the mag tube)

Handguns:
1. Glock 19
2. 1911 variant in .45 (Wilson or Baer)

Interesting topic. While I can't decide about the specific type of guns I do have caliber preferences: .357 Magnum (In a revolver), .45 ACP (in a semi auto pistol), .308/.30-06, and 12ga in a Remington 870 with Polychoke. If I could ad one more gun I'd add a .22 RF.

these are for all reasons......well its a tall order....I really dont think I can get down to just four.....calibers alone would be 308/30-06, 223, 22lr, 45acp,45colt/44mag,9mm.....it would have to be some variation of firearms in those calibers and its hard not include a 38/357 in there...the only stipulations on action types are .223 in ar configuration, and the 22lr would have to be a remington mdl61, with the barrel shortened so its the same length as the mag...fubsy.

here's the ones, and here's why.
1, colt .45 auto pistol. (mine's a m1991a1)
why? primary carry pistol.

2, ruger super blackhawk. (got one of those too)
why? hunting. can kill a buck deer, or an engine block. i guess it just depends on the situation.

3, colt ar-15. ultimate battle rifle. (duh) why? easy to maintain, easy to use. engage targets from across the yard out to 300 meters.

4, 12 gauge shotgun. (got a mossberg "maverick" model 88. perfect for shooting OO buck and it holds 8 rounds of it. need i say more? of course, i've covered all bases here, defense, hunting, defense, and defense. get the picture?

Well, let's see. :(

My original plan was for 4 short guns and 4 long guns but.....

As much as I love my .44's I bring my Kimber along for a side arm.

My second short gun would be my .45 Colt/.410 D-Max revolver.

The heavy barrelled 10-22 with scope would have to come along for camp meat and low noise work.

And I've been meaning to get a Steyr Scout. .308 isn't the biggest kid on the block but with careful shot placement, it WILL do the job.

If I could break the rules I'd bring my 3"629 and 6" 617. My Tack-driving 7mm and my 11-87 blunderbuss.

There, I'm happy now! :D

I prefer armed combat to unarmed combat. It's easier on the knuckles.

This is quite easy for me.
Primary handgun - 1911 in 45acp
secondary handgun - .22LR Auto
Rifle 1 - 308 precision bolt gun with a variable scope.
Rifle 2 - M4 style AR15 with a variable scope.

------------------
Get your 1911s and AR15s while you still can!

If it's for survival, etc., for the rest of your life, in which case you'd use the same guns for hunting and home/personal defense, then I'd choose:

1. 12-gauge shotgun (probably Rem 870 for me)

2. .308 rifle (probably Rem 700 for me)

3. top-quality stainless steel 1911 in .45 ACP

4. any good robust .22 handgun (perhaps the TC Contender with 14-inch barrel)

But I'd make these choices on one condition: That one of my wife's handguns was a stainless .357 revolver.

Not an easy choice. Here goes:

Para LDA/.40 cal - for two legged critters

Browning HP/.40 cal - only one caliber of handgun ammo to worry about, and my wife shoots it very well for those mutual support senarios.

AR-15 - for multiple critters.

Ruger 10/22 - so me and mine can eat.

I'd really like to have a shotgun, but the 10/22 will harvest game, and the AR-15 will defend my fence line. Besides, shotgun ammo is heavy and bulky compared to rifle rounds.
