If you had to choose of of these name your top 5

To add to what AZAK and I said earlier...

My local gun shop owner said something that made a big impression on me when I was going through this:

"You are never too broke to shoot 22."

I even had a decent job at that time, and was STILL too broke to shoot 45 much of the time. That was when a box of 45 was $12. Now it is $25+. I appreciate my 22s more all the time. ;)

S&W Sigma: Great Ergonomics, very accurate, very reliable. Trigger took some getting used to. Generally very good gun for the money.

Taurus 970 Tracker in 22 lr: Very accurate, very good trigger. Mine gives my S&W 617 a run for its money in every catagory and the price is right!
I think its a way better gun than any 94 I've held or shot.

Star Firestar: Its not on your list but I think they should be. Out of production for a while now but used ones in the $250-$300 range. I have 4 of them 1- 9MM, 2- 40S&W, and 1- 45 acp. I've gotten all of mine in the last3 years at the prices listed. Most are in excellent condition in the plastic box they were imported in. Highly underrated guns!

Browning Buckmark: Excellent gun to get started with. Mag release and slide release and safety similar to big bore guns. Very good triggers, very accurate. Cheap to shoot a lot, yet accurate enough to compete with.

If you really want to stay away from a .22 look at either a S&W Sigma .9mm or a Bersa Thunder UC .9mm. Both are very good economical firearms.

1911

Well, thanks for all the answers. Any of you guys know of any rimfire 1911's besides that Kimber one that is $1000+? I was thinking of getting a Springfield GI then getting a .22LR conversion kit but that looked to be somewhere around $700-$900.

Stay away from the P22

I have heard nothing but negative things about the P22, the main problem is slides cracking due to inferior pot metal casting. I have a friend who has one and have shot it a couple of times, its a real POS in my opinion. Don't get me wrong I love Walthers just not this one. the PPK is a good starter gun, a little snappy but good design and fairly effective round in .380. I've had many and have nothing but good things to say about the PPK.

A couple of personal recommendations for good semi-autos would be a CZ75B and the Ruger SR9 both of which I have and really like. They are both 9mm and high capacity. The 9mm round is still fairly inexpensive and accurate, not to mention a wide variety of loadings. Both guns are very accurate and well constructed, the CZ maybe a tad better only because it is a non-plastic frame.

You may also want to check out the new XD(m) in 9mm, this one is a really trick setup. 19+1 capacity, well constructed, comes with a Kydex holster and mag pouch. Its a little pricey though....
