if you get pulled over, do you tell the cop you have a gun on you?

I was stopped by a Louisiana Police officer while on the interstate for a burnt headlight. He asked for my license and registration and saw my cc license. He asked if I had any firearms in the vehicle and I said no, I have a handgun in my back pocket he made me put my hands on the trunk and asked what type of handgun and if it was loaded. he proceeded to remove my gun, unload it and put it on the trunk. He then ran my DL which was clean. He told me I was supposed to tell him right away about my handgun. I told him I was nervous and agreed I should have told him sooner, he appreciated my honesty and told me to open the trunk and he put my gun in it and closed it. He said I could reload my handgun after he left, but not before. Next time I will tell the officer right away to avoid any confusion. By the way, I tapped on the headlight and it started working, I avoided a ticket and warning.

I think 4 years of this thread is probably enough to have sufficiently answered the question for a member who hasn't visited TFL for over 3 years. Besides it really isn't a handgun question, so if anyone feels they have something useful to say on the topic, please create a new thread in the Law forum.

(Hornett, MaNiFeSt didn't fix the title, I did a few days ago. I couldn't take it any longer, u know what I mean? ;) )
