If you could only own one handgun?

Rocky Road, I live in an urban environment. Self defense is the priority and I want a gun that is light enough to always have with you. This is why I opted for the S&W Model 37. Regards, Richard

Only one handgun. For HD, bullseye target, for puttin meat in the freezer, golf balls and rats at the dump.

Would opt for model 19, all the Ts, dash 3 or earlier, 6". Uses tremendous range of loads and often at least three standard case lengths. Easy to work on but good for thousands of rounds without any work. Capable of extremely rapid aimed fire and yet a tack driver. I personally like the short lug of the older ones.

Sam....my favorite 9mm is 9X32

.45 1911 (or clone) with .22 conversion kit.

If no conversion kit allowed - a 512 Ruger .22.

I wouldn't denegrate a .22 as a defense weapon (though I'd like larger). But if it was one, and only one - I'd have to go with the .22 as the most versital.

I "wore out" the trigger on an older "pre-liability" Ruger once. But I doubt that most folks could do that on one of the modern versions.

A 4" .357 revolver; currently a Security Six for best combination of durability and weight; alternatively a M19/66 S&W; Stainless GP-100 although it is bulky and heavy for concealed carry...M1911 as a semiauto due to disassembly features. Glock 17 as a runner up to that for same reasons.

My North American Arms .22 mag mini revolver. ;)

Good question, trying to figure out which of my many handguns is going to blow a blood vessel in my worn brain. But I would probably go with my Sig 229 .40.

I only plan on owning one handgun (yea, that's the plan:rolleyes :), so I would have to say it'd be a SA 1911.

I don't believe in owning multiple weapons simply because you can never become truly proficient with any one weapon unless you don't use the other weapons you've bought. That defeats the purpose. Similarly, you can't bring a weapon into play if you don't carry the same weapon in the same place with regularity. While I like the PPK, switching between it and a 1911 could cause one to loose a fraction of a second in a battle scenario, and that might be all it takes to cause a loss on your part.

If you just have to have multiple pistols, at the very least, you should try to keep them in the same family (full-size, commander, compact...) so the feel and controls remain the same even if the size and caliber varies.

That's my take on the situation, though this in no way implies that I will give up my Ruger M77, Mossberg, or Remington.

When Reason Fails.....

For max versatility, including CCW, HD, compet., and general defense in my actual urban environment, not a theoretical SHTF scenario, I'd have to go with a 4" .41 Mag revolver (such S&W mtn gun) or the Glock 20 in 10mm. These choices assume I will also have at least one rifle.

Greeting's To All; The one and only gun choice for me is very simple. Why, because
I prefer the best! :D And for me, that is
the world famous Sig-Sauer P220A in .45
ACP. :)

VaughnT, don't want to be disagreeable but I know several people that can pick up most any firearm available and be very proficient. :) regards, birdman

Glock 20, 10mm can be loaded as heavy or as light as you want. Will work for hunting and is a mean customer against 2 legged varmints.

First there was the Heaven and Earth then there was the Glock 20

You might laugh in the face of FEAR... but unless your armed, its a nervous, unconvincing, little laugh.
