If you could only choose ONE single stack 9...

If you had to choose one single stack 9mm pistol for concealed carry, home defense, and as a general plinker, which would you choose and why would you choose it?

EDIT: Out of currently produced pistols only.

EDIT II: When I say choose only one, I mean only one single stack 9mm pistol, not if you can only choose one pistol at all. Say you personally are looking for a single stack 9mm that you can use for the above listed criteria, which would you choose?

Hk P7, not the smallest, but that in turn makes it more pleasant to shoot. Quite accurate and quick to get in action too.

Youre probably not talking about collectable 1K+ out of production pistols though.

Other than the P7, the only one I've spent time with was a 938 which isn't too bad a range gun with the extended magazine, but I'd be tempted to try a PPS, or BERSA's lookalike the BP9. A three finger grip is mainly what I'd be looking for.

Yes, I should mention currently produced pistols only apply

It's your question and you can frame it any way you want, but I wonder, why limit the answers only to currently produced pistols??

There are a LOT of fine handguns no longer in production, that work every bit as well as they ever did.

Some of them are completely out of print, others are just discontinued versions of guns still in production.

I found that the j frame fits the same size format of the single stacked 9mms and in my experience is more reliable.

That said, I have owned most recently the Kahr pm9, and prior to that a Walther PPS, Xds 45, and Sig P290. The P290 was the only one that always cycled. It had other limits though and was eventually recalled leading me to trade my example away.

If I was inclined to test the reliability for carry with a few hundred rounds, and I am not, I would begin with the Sig p938 or Kimber micro 9mm. I have a micro 380 that is CZ accurate. My pocket gun, mind you.

I don't disagree, but I think technology has its merits, thus I want to remove the Luger's and P38's from the mix.

I did just that OP and went with a Kahr CM9...:D. Good price, stainless slide (which, I like on my carry guns), conceals comfortably and still makes for a good range gun.

Well, given the restriction of "current" production, the only one I've even considered is the Ruger LC9s. I've got one that's my EDC. I picked it out of a crowd of guns that all pretty much looked alike. Sort of like buying a puppy. It works and works well, but like most plastic guns, I find it rather boring. Why did I pick it? I know the brand, they make good stuff, and it was inexpensive.

But with no restrictions it would be the Smith & Wesson Model 39-2. There is one on my desk right now. You see, I also think tried and true has it's merits. I'm an old revolver guy and don't really care for many semi's, but the 39-2 is an exception.

I don't care for the single stack 9mm because of capacity. However, if I were to choose amongst them, I would do the Kahr PM9. Single stack 9mm aren't exactly plinkers, ideal for HD, and it wouldn't be my preference.

Control for follow up shots is lower than double stack because of the smaller grip and lighter weight. But the Kahr with its construction is a solid pistol with a faster recovery in my hands.

Shame only current models or I'd choose the Astra A80.

But given the criteria, the Glock single stack. G43.

It's about the only one sold here apart from the LC9.

Bersa's BP9CC

Reliable, with a great trigger (short reset and light pull) and reasonably priced.

I went with a CM9 since it's one of the few that's materially smaller than a G26 (unlike the G43) and it goes bang every time so it wins for CCW. If it was my ONLY 9mm I would go with something bigger like a G43 or Ruger.

Single stack --- Walther PPS M2.
I do not have one but it would be my choice.
I like that it does not have a fully cocked striker; Fully cocked with one in the chamber still makes me a little nervous.
I like that you have the 6-8 round magazine choices to allow for two finger or three finger grip.
=======
I CC a Kahr K9 (striker DAO 7 rounds) but I have been looking for a change (PPS M2 or Glock 26. I am leaning towards the G26 -- fits better in my hands).

I really do like my Sig P938. But if I was limited to one gun only, and that gun had to be a single stack 9mm, I'd probably go with a P239. With the P239 I would have the option of 10 rd. mags vs the 7 round mags with the P938. And I tend to think that it might be more durable.

Smith & Wesson Shield. Very reliable. I shoot it accurately at the range. Has a manual safety option. There is a reason it is one of the most popular semi autos ever sold.
