If you could hunt one dinosaur

What would it be?

I would want to hunt Allosaurus. I'd use a fully automatic AK47, or semi auto with a scope. Depends on the terrain. I'd probably die, but I'd become a historical icon forever.

Allosaurus isn't as big and powerful as a tyrannosaurus rex. That's why i'd hunt it. If i hunted a t-rex, I'd either die or end up shooting it in the face so many times that a taxidermist couldn't do anything with it.

Velociraptors are small, i wouldn't hunt them. Real velociraptors are only the size of chickens. The movie Jurassic park portrays the dinonychus as velociraptor, they stand 5 feet to 2 meters tall, and are extremely ferocious. They could hunt modern day elephants much more efficiently than any predator that currently exists. It would be suicidal to hunt dinonychus, unless I used a tank. There would probably be 60 of them trying to kill me.

Check this out it is part two of t-rex vs. raptors (dinonychus species)

Pterodactyls

cause I like to shoot creatures that are trying to fly away.

(Although in this case they might be flying towards me !!!:eek:.... )

I'm not sure what gage and load it would take to put one of these things down though???

Do you think it would taste like chicken or more like frog or turtle??

I would like to hunt a brontosaurus. I grew up watching Fred Flintstone and have a hankering for a brontoburger.

Or you could take up spear fishing. Collect a mosasaur, or one of those sharks that make modern great whites look like baitfish.

hogdogs could find one of those crocagators that were about 30 to 40 feet long.

:D:D:D

You must like the raptors, your named after one. (or, rather, a family of them)

I would hunt the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The most Iconic dinosaur ever. I would use nothing short of a XM109 Payload Rifle. 25mm of Armor Piercing beauty. I plan on living through this. Nervous system disruption. Shoot for the head, spine, or through both hips.

Preferable weapon is the Avenger GAU8, but, in the spirit of being sporting, I'll take the XM109, nothing smaller.

I want a LAW with me just in case.

T. Rex didn't weigh much more than African Elephants, and their actual build was slimmer (they were taller and longer). You could probably take one using a regular elephant gun; 25mm is more than overkill. The .577 Tyrannosaur cartridge would be just about perfect, IMO. :D

I think I would opt for something different. Perhaps .458 Lizard Slayer (my own creation, of course).

The wonderful selection of solids, protected soft points, and deep penetrators in .458" diameter is hard to turn down. Add a serious powder charge under the bullet, and you've got dead ("terrible") lizards.:D

Given short notice.... I would probably grab my .220 Swift.
3,600 fps 55gr FMJs penetrate a lot more than most people think.

Then, there's always the option of blinding them, and letting them die slowly. Cartridge for the job: .22 LR or .22 WMR. ;)

What would I hunt? I honestly don't know. ...Probably whatever tasted the best, or was chasing me at the time...

Should we start a 'hiking in dinoland is a 380 acp pistol enough to stop a T-rex' thread?

Whateer the raptors in Jurassic park actually are would be my choice. I would hunt with a Moss 500 Persuader tactified with a slug as the first shot and 00 buck to follow. I also want a couple guides set up as an MG 42 unless they get too close.

I think I would let you guys shoot a few first to find out which ones were tasty, and to figure out suitable armament.:)

Dang, you guys can have them. I'll be wherever those things aren't.

I would hunt the smallest ones I could find, because:

1. I would hate to waste all that meat.

2. Field dressing it would be a mess.

3. I would wear out a blade trying to cut it up into bite size pieces.

4. I would be screaming like a little girl while running away from that thing.

What would I use? Stealth! Maybe I could sneak into HogDogs camp and swipe a few crocosaures staeks.

I'm not particular, I'd like to hunt them all.

But I am cheap ,so I'd probly be hunting the smallest, dumbest and most retarded lizard there was. I dont know what it would be, but it would be a cheap hunt.

Whats the cheapest Dinosaur? Was there a Dollarsaurus?:D

Providing their nervous system, cardiovascular system, and muscle system are similar in layout and function, then yes, I would almost agree, however, since we do not know how any of that was configured for certain, or what a clean kill shot would be, I'm going for a spine/brain or put a round through BOTH hips.

What if they have 3 hearts? Or a distributed nervous system where it doesn't actually have a single brain?

I get it!

So we CAN'T talk about zombies, but we CAN talk about dinosaurs. So I think I would hunt the feared Zombie Dinosaur!!
Next lets start a is .223 to small for dinosaurs thread:D

Extremely unlikely. Theropods such as t-rex are the most likely candidate for the ancestors of birds, and are likely to have a similar layout, i.e. one brain, one heart, etc, like the vast majority of other large animals. There is also nothing in the skeletal structure that suggests a grossly different anatomy.

Can anyone prove that? No. My statement still stands. I'm not taking my chances with an Elephant that is trying to EAT me. Especially one that could (however unlikely we assume it may be) have multiple hearts or some other funky evolutionary branch that we don't know about.
