if you could change the goverment.....

The biggest change I would make would be campaign finance reform.

If you took all the big money and special interest group donations out of govt you might have a small chance of having it serve the people again instead of big business and fringe groups.

I would put in a constitutional ammendment that every law sunsets after 7 years. Tax code, penal code... everything.

That way, Congress spends most of its time examining existing law and determining its relevance rather than crafting up new pie-in-the-sky-why-can't-we-all-get-along legislation.

Close down the Federal Reserve, abolish the Graduated Income Tax, Close the border.

Move $500 bn into solar energy plants. These plants would use ceramic/carbon heat transfer tubes and move solar energy in the 2000 degree range to a lithium bromide heat sink...would allow 24 hour a day solar to electrical power, then use the excess power to convert coal into alcohol to deal with our transportation needs, (no foriegn oil needed)...

repeal ALL GUN LAWS, except the felons not having acces to them...teach fire arm handling to school children.

Move all liberals to Moscow where they could socialize to their hearts content!

Get the UN out of the US...cut off all funding to the UN, and most of the rest of the "world".

All would be done with in the first 100 days of making me dictator!

Convert to a true Republic as the founders intended. This would amount to the repealing of 99% of all federal law as they are unconstitutional by strict constructionist standards. The only federal taxes levied would be those for the operation of the dept of defense and the census bureau and those should be levied on individual states based on population as determined by the census. Individual states could then determine their own stances on issues such as gay marriage, abortion, etc. Individual states would also be then responsible for the care and feeding of those they choose to care for and feed. If a state wants full state sponsored healthcare then that state's citizens can be responsible for the bill for that.

We had a republic if we could've kept it. We didn't keep it but I'd like to have it back.

Abolish the IRS, eliminate the income tax, make mandatory term limits for every federal elected office.

They system is fine. It was intended that people would leave private life for a fixed amount of time and then return. The problem is those who are in it.

get rid of political parties. how about electing people for what they stand for and not what party they are affiliatied with.

That's a good idea. Watching the current set froth at the mouth over whether to do what's right vs. supporting some stupid party leader - is quite disgusting.

I would require a written test at age 18 for citizenship in this country. I would provide that citizenship is only available to those who have no felony convictions. Only citizens have the right to vote, bear arms, receive social aid, etc... If you don't pass the written test, you can try again in one year. But, if you are a convicted felon, you're out. Period.

I would require a mandatory four-year term of civil service for all citizens. I would establish homeland service branches (like the work corps., roadbuilding, labor, etc.) for people to serve in, so they don't just have to join the military.

I would impose term limits for every single office in the United States state or federal government. Including especially Congress, all elected law enforcement provisions, and all local executive or administrative offices.

I would require that any entity hired by the government for any function should be contracted based on a lump-sum bid. The government should be required to take the lowest bidder, and the contractor should only be paid what they bid on the job.

I would expand the scope of "assumed risk" in personal injury lawsuits. I would expect that if I had a safety bar on my circular saw, and someone removed it and hurt themselves, it's their own stupid fault.

And finally... I would bring back public execution.

Repeal the 16 amendment and institute the "Fair Tax" idea. Tax on consumption and not on income.

Repeal the 17th amendment. Make Senators employees of the state and return power to the states. The House of Represenatives was to be the peoples represenatives. The Senate was to represent the states.

Don't like who is Senator? Elect someone to the statehouse who will put someone else in. Better yet, run yourself. Doing such would remove alot of corporate influence since the Senator only has to worry about a few hundred votes instead of the entire state. The Senators will also listen to their states government much more because they will be out on their ear if they try to tie highway funding to anything or pull other such crap.

End the war on drugs. In high school and college I could buy whatever drugs I wanted provided I had the money. I can still get drugs if I wanted and looked around a bit. Basic Econ 101 supply and demand. If there is a demand, there WILL be a supply, end of story. The only thing that banning them does is raise the price. Spend the money we spend on the WOD on rehab for people who want it. Sell and tax drugs just like alcohol and cigs. Start public education (NOT the propaganda I heard in grade school.) about the effects of these drugs.

Repeal gun laws. By ending the WOD, criminals no longer have the funds to buy illegal weapons and won't be able to afford legal weapons anyway. Who is gona buy street Heroin when they can go the the Pharmacy and get medical grade stuff?

Build newer and safer nuclear power plants. Reprocess spent fuel so instead of having stuff that is hot for thousands of years we are left with stuff that is hot for only a few hundred. Properly designed breeder reactors would be a good idea as well to increase the supply of fissionable material. Use wind energy to produce ethanol or other energy storage products.

Phase out Social Security, Enact more welfare reform.

All I can think about right now.

Make it a Federal Crime for elected Officials to violate the oath of office.
Only can donate to candidate if you can vote for that office.
True seperation of power, ie, no Lawyers in Congress or Pres. they are officers of the court.

Abolish the Supreme Court. Or at least, the concept of "judicial review". If our elected representatives pass a law, the unelected in-power-for-life supreme court should not be able to do jack about it.

Prohibit politicians from accepting "donations" from any person or business that is located outside the district that they represent.

I do not like the sound of that one. Sounds too much like "mob rule" to me. There is a reason the founders set up the three different branches of govt...one of those reasons is to prevent a bunch of like minded but wrong people from imposing their opinions on others and violating their rights.

If it was done by popular vote alone, you would have no 2nd amendment rights at this time. Most polls show the majority of the country is left of center so think of the other things you might lose.

So what in the hell is the point of having a constitution if you can't enforce it? Say they pass a law outlawing all firearms. Oh well guess it sucks for us

+1 to most of the above. Also, the lying weasels who have usurped our beloved republic should be caned and hanged in public on TV, just to keep their replacements on the up-and-up. Can anyone else imagine the joy of seeing Chuckie Schumer or (fill in the blank) screaming for God and Mommy as the cane takes their backs and @sses down to bare bone (imagine the flagellation scene from "The Passion of the Christ) before they are dragged off to the gallows? If all went well, their graves would reek of urine for decades. The next batch would have a different attitude toward governance and responsibility to the Republic, the People , and the Constitution.
