If they build it --- would you

+1 what Jo6pak said.

As for my wish, I would like to see Spencer rifles and carbines in .327, .357, .41, .44, .38-40, .44-40, and .45 Colt. And I would like the things if chambered in magnum ctg's- I would appreciate them being able to function as well with their 'Special' counterparts.

I'm fairly unsatisfied with the PCC market right now. I have always wanted one, but never found one that was quite right. Beretta, too expensive. HiPoint, too ugly and as far as I remember the beretta clone only works on the 9mm models. Keltec, seems well made accurate and practical, just kinda out there.

If they were slightly larger, slightly more traditionally designed and no more than about $450-$500, offered hi cap mags and easy to find in the caliber you want (.40 S&W or .45) it would be a winner.

It has about 600 FPS available over the 6.8 in every bullet weight (but can be loaded down if you want), with better sectional density and higher BC of the bullets across the board.

How does the .260 Rem fare in shorter (16") barrels? Lots of muzzle flash (hard on cans, as I understand it- not terribly intersested in droppin' near $1K on a custom can, only to tear it up quickly) and substantial loss of Muzzle velocity, I'll bet.

IME, heavier bullets lose less velocity (though they do have less to begin with) than lighter bullets, in shorter barrels.... and velocity is transient thing, too ...... heavy for caliber bullets tend to have higher BC, as well ......

.... I have a 150 gr 7-08 load that'll do 2400 out of my 16" barreled Frontier, without a blot of blast/flash ..... I'll be trying 160's this summer.....

Mini-14 in 6.8SPC

I think the 6.8SPC has a decent chance of becoming a great cartridge, if only more manufacturers would build rifles for it. Ruger Mini-14 would be great, in my opinion.

An accurate Ruger mini 14 in 308 cal....

They had plans to make one, or something very very similar to it, back in the '80s I believe. It was called the XGI 308.

Kind of fell flat on its face though. I mean, a Mini is supposed to be a scaled down M14, it seems silly to scale it back up.

What is your "I wish Brand-X built one like this ......." rifle?

I mean, a Mini is supposed to be a scaled down M14, it seems silly to scale it back up.

No more than a Remington model 7 is a scaled down 700....Is it silly to chamber it in 308 cal just like the 700 is? ;)

So ........ what is your dream "production" rifle ?

Not what is the rifle..that someone else wants..that U wanna run down....

Mine would be a ruger hawkeye alaskan bolt action .30-06 with a 22 inch barrel with factory sights matte stainless and synthetic. Just like there .375 alaskan but lighter in both .30-06 and 35 whelen.

Brand new M1 Garand in 30-06, capable of handling all modern ammo, < $1000. Maybe a spring retainer on the firing pin.

I would be all over that.

Edit : after thinking about this some more. I would BE ALL OVER THAT ON DAY ONE. I have to imagine a garand hardened to modern ammo with the little extra safety feature of a retained firing pin (to prevent single loading slamfire dummies) would be a huge seller.

But they already have/had shorter M1As/M14s.

Jason..Obviously U have never owned an M1A or Mini14....
I have owned Mini 30's and Mini 14's...I have a SA SOCOM right now....
The price is more than double the cost of a Mini 30 or 14.....
Just like the Mini 30 has seen success..I believe a Mini 14 size & close to weight gun in 308..would have been a big seller....But it really don't matter..This is the gun I would get....:D
