If the AW ban dies in 2004....?

Does this mean we can put all of the goodies back on our guns?

Just think, in new production brand new HI CAP MAGS!! Flash hiders and all the other stuff we SHOULD have right now. Also I bet prices will drop alot too.:)

Only if the House of Representatives stays in pro-2A GOP or Democrat control. If the gun-grabbers from both parties get in, expect the AW ban to become permanent.

Prices will drop, though not to the level of 10 round magazines. Even though manufacturing would be easier, and some companies like Mec-Gar already have the equiptment (how else could magazines be made for LEO's and military) the companies will charge more for the full capacity magazines.

Given the current state of paranoia about "assault rifles" thanks to the psycho in MD, I wouldn't count on it.

It won't matter if it turns out this Maryland psycho is using a single-shot bolt gun, it's still doom for the AW ban sunset.

I hope I'm wrong about that.

What can we do to make sure the AW ban doesn't get resigned?
I recall reading the G.W. Bush said that he would sign the AW weapon ban if it passed his desk, is this true?

Don't worry PeteyPete. You live in NJ. We hav our own Ban on those evil black weapons of death.

:( your right.....the minute i finish with my degrees, i'm jumping the border to Penn, I hate this socialist state!

If the AW ban dies in 2004:
- Pigs will fly,
- All Politicians will be honest,
- There will be no SPAM emails,
- Sarah Brady will join Mothers Arms, and
- Dennis will apologize to all Republicans.

Until then?
- Pigs and politicians still stink,
- I delete more emails than I read,
- Sarah Brady remains deluded (at best), and
- Republicans are still closer to Democrats and tyranny
than to We the People and the Constitution.

I have seen the deaths of many Natural Rights during the last fifty years. I fear my children will consider our current times to be "freedom" compared to the "order" under which they will be forced to exist.

I have $100 which says, "By the 1/1/2005, the AW ban either:
- will not die, or
- will be replaced with greater restrictions."

Any takers?

Freedom you must buy from the government is not freedom; whether it's freedom to buy a full-auto firearm or freedom to vote.

I'll take it but how about we each choose an RKBA group to receive the money? I'll choose the Second Amendment Foundation as my group. You win, I'll donate $100 to the group of your choice?

I think that its definitely up in the air and this sniper business doesn't help anything; but the House of Representatives has a good chance of killing the ban. The original ban passed a Democratic-controlled House (with Democratic president pushing it) by a single vote and contributed greatly to Dems losing the House. Several attempts to repeal the ban passed overwhelmingly in the new Republican controlled House and were only defeated in the Senate.

This time, we only have to win one of those battles. If pro-gun candidates carry the November elections (especially with the sniper thing going on), it will send a signal that gun control is a definite loser issue. If Bob Ehrlich wins the Maryland Governor's race under these conditions, Democrats will jump away from gun control like someone dropped some hot brass down their shirt.

It isn't a sure thing but it is certainly a reasonable and doable goal.

If?

There is no "if", as the law will sunset. The law will die, the only question is whether or not the law will be reinstated.

At that, I would ask all of you out there in TFL land, what are you doing to insure that it does not happen?

Are you working for RKBA candidates?

Are you working on converting, or at least neutralizing antis?

Are you telling advertisers that you intend to boycott their products because the magazines they advertise in are spouting off anti propaganda?

If not, get out there and do it. We have the power to make it happen if we choose. Wallowing in defeatism is traitorous and only serves the enemy.

Unfortunately, I think Dennis is right. Unless the House gains alot of conservative Republicans like they had in 94, this law will sail through. There are enough RINO's there now to make it pass.

Frohicky mentioned pro-gun Democrats. If the Dems gain back the house, this law will become permanent for sure. The Dems leadership is Gephardt, Conyers, Pelosi. All anti American and avid 2A haters. They will make sure this become permanent. I would also look for a barrage of anti gun BS similar to what is happening in California. I bet you could count the pro 2A Dems in the House on your fingers and have a few left over.

Russ,

"Pro-gun Democrats" ?

Isn't that as rare as a present-day pregnant virgin? :)

Bartholomew,

You're on… tentatively. Let's make sure of my weasel-wording.
I say the effect of the AW ban will remain the same or become even more onerous to us and/or the Second Amendment. That's my bet. Changing the name, number or other nomenclature of the law is irrelevant to me—the intent of the oligarchy is my point and my bet.

If that's still "Jake" with you, the bet is on.
Loser will send $100 to the Second Amendment Foundation or the Gun Owners of America (winner's choice).

( I DO so hope I'll lose this bet! )

My take:

With Republicans doing well in the races I believe both the House and Senate will be Republican controlled by the time 9/13/04 comes around. Democrats have stayed away from gun control this election and after the stomping they'll get this year they will stay away from it for a while. I believe that it will not be Democrats pushing a new bill though Congress but the Republicans will be. That's right folks once again the GOP will stick to all of us who got them elected. The new bill I think will not be as restrictive as the current one but nevertheless a new bill will pass. Look for bayonet lugs, grenade launchers, and flash suppressors to be outlawed all together, no more of this grandfathered "loophole." All the "assault rifles" banned from importation and US production will continue to be banned. However I do not believe whether or not you rifle has a pistol grip or telescoping stock will no longer matter.
Now on to the "large capacity ban", forget it, you will never see another magazine holding more than 10 rounds for sale in the USA unless it's a pre-ban. It is to much of a feel good law to the masses of people who just don't care about guns.

I hope I'm wrong but that would appear to be the fate of the renewal of the crime bill.

Sounds good to me. I think we can go with intent on this one. I'll even consider it a loss if a less onerous version of the ban passes.

How do we handle it though if the ban expires and it is apparent that some other legislation will soon be law? How long do we have to go without a ban for you to consider the bet a loss?

( I DO so hope I'll lose this bet! )

I hope you do also :D At the very least, a worthy organization will get a little extra money to keep up the good fight though.

Dennis,

In my estimation, a Pro-gun DemocRAT is a mythological creature similar to a Unicorn. They exist only in fantasy land. Having lived most of my life so far in California, I am tired of being screwed by the DemocRATS. I can honestly say that I have never voted for a DemocRAT in my life. I was 21 in 1976 and that was the first election I could vote in. California went for Ford that year.

Amazing how different things are out there over the last few years. The Dems surely took a page from Daley's playbook. I bet half the illegals and a good portion of dead people there voted for the Dems during the last election.

I only knew 2 people out there who ever admitted voting for Klintoon. How he got elected is still a mystery to me. How he got elected twice is mind boggleing.

Russ

Russ,
Unicorns! :D

Bartholomew,
- "I'll even consider it a loss if a less onerous version of the ban passes."
Wow! You truly have faith!

- "How long do we have to go without a ban for you to consider the bet a loss?"
Let's go with intent (as you stated). If, on 1/1/2005, the restrictions of the Assault Weapons bill are all gone and not scheduled to be replaced with something as bad or worse, I lose.
( I truly believe they'll do us dirty. :( )

- "I hope you do [lose], At the very least, a worthy organization will get a little extra money to keep up the good fight though."
Yep, they'll win either way. And if *I* lose, we ALL win!! :)
