If I hear one more bumpkin say...

You are dead on accurate, busterbury. I feel your pain. You cannot, by definition, win a war on a concept, which will never be eliminated. Welcome to the 2nd ETERNAL war - the first being the war on (some) drugs.

We are at war with Islamists!!!
They need to stop beating around the bush here. What is terrorism? We are commiting "terrorism" on our enemies right now. Don't think I believe that's a bad thing. I hope the enemy pisses itself every night at the thought of what we will do to them!

To the author: Bumpkin? Cmon......

What if their belief is that they should be able to trade oil in euros instead of dollars. Should that belief be tolerated?
What if their belief is that we are the Great Satan and should be killed at every opportunity. Should that be tolerated?

Deal in the here and now facts of today and maybe you can get a handle on what this war is all about.

It's not about Euros, it's not about the flowery words of a long dead bloody ex warhorse, or how peaceniks feeel about war or what name it's been given

It's about survival in the face of an enemy that does not believe that we have the right to exist and that cannot be appeased by flowery words and olive branches

after being born in Louisiana and raised in Georgia, I have the right to call anyone I please a dad gum bumpkin. Same with black people dropping the n-bomb. Just something we're able to do.
So being from the south gives you the right to call those that disagree with you stupid .

Well, that's the just stupidest comment I have ever heard.
Relax I can say, I'm from Florida and Alabama

We can make them happy

They aren't upset about our presence in Islam countries...They don't care what we pay workers to produce shoes...If they were concerned about human rights, they wouldn't enjoy blowing up innocents so much!
To make the terrorists happy, we need to cease to exist. That is our evil offence...we live. We can make them happy by dieing.
I would rather see them dead than happy!

some truth here... lots of nonsense and liberalism.

We are at war with Islam.
Because Bush is a liberal he cannot say that, so he says "terror".
Same thing in this instance.

Islam is an evil religion that appeals to the destructive and violent tendencies in mankind.

I mean evil not because of the evil done in its name, but by the evil enshrined in its holy book and commanded of its adherents.

Islam, in a "collective" way, decides to take over the world every few hundred years and, every few hundred years, needs to be stopped.

Others throughout history have done their duty to keep Islam from destroying Western Civilization, now it is our turn.

Not sure if we can do it this time.

To GHT...

If Islam was such an "evil" religion then I guess every LAW ABIDING AND TAX PAYING Muslim American should be doing their duty to jihad it up right? I would also guess nations like Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, Morocco, United Arab Emarites, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, France, England, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Germany, Algeria, Tunisia, Jordan, Turkey etc. should also do their part is smashing the Great Satan right? You do know that America does do business with some these nations mentioned right? Say, if Islam was so evil why exactly did we let Iraqi civilians live, I mean they're Muslims right? Should we burn them in ovens too? Don't get your enemies confused, we may be fighting religious EXTREMISTS, that doesn't mean everyone who follows that religion is inherently evil, there are law abiding Muslims throughout the world, no they're not waiting in dark alleys with rocket launchers, no they don't have TNT strapped to their chest, sorry to disappoint you but such bloodlust and prejudice is EXACTLY what causes wars. Throwing blanket statements that a religion and all who follow it are evil just furthers backwards thinking. Could my ancestors and much of the rest of the world say Christianity is evil and must be stopped? Especially considering what the Europeans did to much of the rest of the world such as wiping out Native Americans in North and South America by Spanish and British conquerors and forcing the Bible down on them calling them "savages" even for those who converted, enslaving Africans to plantations (yes I'm fully aware that inter-tribal warfare was another factor, but that still doesn't condone the exploitation of people.) even those who converted were still "The N bomb" only sub-humans even though they submitted to the Bible. The arrival of the British in China which triggered the Boxer Rebellion because the Chinese were sick of being forced to convert and tired of the British taking over their economy. Let's not forget how the British also decided to take over the Indian sub-continent and then divide it to cause internal problems once they left. (India now has Pakistan and Bangladesh, Pakistan and India don't get along because of the fact the British made them turn against each other by playing on religious fear.) Oh yeah, let's not forget "For God and Country" as they say. Religion used to justify any form of cruelty is just a crutch for the weak mind and the power hungry to enslave or destroy others, that goes for ANY religion Christian AND Muslim. Take a look at how many Americans are Muslim today, and then go back to preaching about an "evil" religion.

P.S: To those who disagreed with me, I did mention that we should continue fighting terrorists, but that doesn't mean don't offer them communication should they at some point wise up and try to change things politically instead of by force. As for those who stated our oil economy would collapse, oh well it's not like it'll be there forever anyway you're just delaying the inevitable, stop whining about a non-renewable resource and find a better way, so instead of pumping out the oil faster we should ACTIVELY try to find an alternative equal to or better than petroleum. Instead of giving tax-write offs for gas guzzlers, place that on hybrid and gas effiecient vehicles, I would also think that an incentive to pursue better fuels would allow us to depend less on unstable regions, think about this; if we came up with an alternative to fossil fuel we could back out of the Middle East, and sell to the rest of the world knocking down their fuel prices as well, it'd be win/win for everyone. Let's not forget it takes MILLIONS OF YEARS for oil to come back, a luxury the growing world population doesn't have.

Very confusing to compare some of these item's

To compare a gas guzzling SUV to a war on terrorism, is pretty weird.
Now the gas that is derived from the oil that is bought from the nations that are in the business of selling it. America promised to purchase if they would allow us to help them to extract it from the ground.

We are doing our best to keep them afloat, and they hate us for our freedoms?
Come and live in a country like the USA, see the freedom learn to fly and stay as a mole for years with one thing on your mind, Blow up the World Trade center"? Sick to say the least. That is pure dedication to the max.

Bigotry and brainwashing and a religion that say's do it. Pretty espressive on the type of war we are into.

War on drugs is nothing more than an attempt to stop the slam on the American life style of destruction of your own body. Quite different on two fronts I would mention.

It is pretty well proven in the scientific community that the life style of drugs is not conducieve to a helpful person, as in being part of the community and trying to raise your children in a healthy lifestyle.

These two wars are not to be confused with each other though they are both damaging to the country.

War on Poverty: Thinly disguised euphemism for Leftist, Socialistic wealth redistribution schemes and other associated government rip-offs and give-aways that are anathema to the classical liberal American Way of Life. Coined euphemistically in order to allow those same Leftists and Socialists to have a pleasing term that does not include "Socialism" or "Wealth Redistribution Program" in it, which would be an immediate turn-off to the electorate, at least that part that has a clue. The use of the euphemism has been largely successful.

War on Drugs: Thinly disguised euphemism for the continued prohibitionist attacks on mind altering substances, some of which are undoubtedly harmful to the users and some much less so. While less obvious, it is still counter to the classical liberal American Way of Life, as it seeks to protect free citizens from their own life choices, by force. Coined euphemistically in order to allow those same prohibitonists to have a pleasing term that does not include "Prohibition" in it, which would be an immediate turn-off to the electorate, at least that part that has a clue. The use of the euphemism has largely been successful.

War on Terror: Thinly disguised euphemism for an acutal armed conflict against mostly Islamo-Fascist Terrorists and their various supporters, both of the Nation-State and super-national varieties. Since this war was declared by those same Islamo-Fascist Terrorists, and since their expressed goals include the destruction of the American state and classical liberal way of life, pursuit of this endeavor is NOT counter to the classical liberal American Way of Life, but is instead vital to it. Coined euphemistically in order to allow those politicians who support this conflict to have a somewhat more palatable term for the conflict without mentioning "Moslem", "Islam" or "Islamic extremism", which would be an immediate turn-off of a certain PC and (pseudo)moral equivalency oriented sector of the electorate, the clueless part. The use of the euphemism has been largely unsuccessful.

While Yes, the 3 euphemisms are all political babble-speak -- No, they are NOT all the same. I happen to disagree with 2 of them quite strongly, and I happen to support the other quite strongly.

It's usually dangerous to cast words about in generalizing type formats. "All this", "Always", "Never"... so I attempt to not do so for the most part. I hope and pray that our gov't, that is, us, as in you and I, never decides to wage war on a religion, be it inside our borders or outside. It kinda goes against some strongly held beliefs we have codified in our own first amendment... however, having said that, there are those individuals and cells within certain religious groups that have decided to wage war upon us.

THEY are fair game.

These groups have told us WHY they are waging this war. The current unpleasantness began (I think) when the US backed UN told a group of Zionist led Hebraic refugees from a war-torn Europe that they could (no wait. better not. oh go ahead) live in the Holy Land and who, quickly formed a new nation-state.

Sides were drawn.

Mayhem ensued.

On one hand a group who had backed the Axis allied themselves against the ragtag bunch of refugees who terrorized the British right out out the area and who were more or less financed by a group of fellow minded American business-persons. (I do know the man who owned the LV Sun newspaper was busted for gun-running arms to Israel) Someone else helped finance the Bedouins. Hmmmm.

A series of battles ensued over the years. Force meets force, one side always losing.

1972, Munich. Terror on display. Effective.

Again, Hmmmm.

US backed the Shah of Iran (since US missles were removed from Turkey, circa '62-63, we needed someplace close to the USSR to peek in now and then) who, it seems, went "Western"... much to the chagrin of an exiled religious leader... who, it seems, more or less found a group of local angry young studious men to take over a certain US Embassy... which, it seems, indicated that the mouse could pull the cat's whiskers... good sport if you live to tell the tale.

The mice lived.

Not clear on exactly what happened next, but I do remember a nasty little war in Lebanon wherein a large group of US Marines were bombed in their barracks, and once again, the US turned tail and went home. Whisker pulling... great sport now.

While we might think this is about the US v. a few Islamic whisker pullers... stand back and look at the bigger picture, always keeping in mind your historical learnin'... who is backing whom? Why? Think bears, dragons and eagles... and money. Don't forget to follow the money. Think chess and try to stay two or three moves ahead. Some players are just pawns. Others are, well, maybe a little more valuable pieces on the board who seem to manipulate those pawns.

Then look ahead to the 2008 elections. Chose your pieces carefully. And never forget... We're just pawns. Easily manipulated. Who really benefits from all this madness? It ain't us bumpkins...

Why is it that some of us always use any excuse to damn the United States? Cult of Mohammad leadership calls for the extermination of non-believers, they attack everyone, including their own civilians, and all we can talk about is how we should stop employers in other countries from paying low wages. Even though the wages are comparable to those of every other manufacturer in that country.

While the War on Terror may be jingoistic, it is perhaps the best description. Don't make a mistake here, to the cultists, this is a war to the death. What you think obviously matters not one bit to them. Surprise.

The problem lies in the idiocy involved by our tin-foilers who demand a Declaration Of War, per the constitution. The Constitution allows for a Declaration of War against another political entity who meets the international law definition of a country. Oops.

Think, instead, of our actions as a Punitive Expedition. The attack on the Barbary Pirates, the Fight in the Philippines against the Moros, our incursions into Mexico and Nicaragua, all were punitive expeditions, not wars. They are a long standing means of operating against bandits, and terrorists. All civilized countries have a long history of providing "protection" for our interests in countries that can't provide it themselves. The Boxer Rebellion in China, and the multi-national force that freed the hostaged citizens comes to mind. Same with the multi-national patrols on the Yangtze River. Like them or not, or think of them as good or bad, the precedent has been made conturies ago.

It's time that we sold our stock in Reynolds Aluminum and started looking at things with an eye towards reality. There is no conspiracy to rob citizens of their rights. What power, exactly, will members of our government earn? Most of these men and women in the Capitol are doddering old creatures, barely able to do anything but reassure their reelection. They are essentially incompetent. Just what do you think Kennedy, one of the most powerful politicians around is capable of? If it doesn't come out of a bottle, not much.

Most of the problems we have are due to sheer stupidity on the part of politicians. Add to that the constant wails of the "constitutionalists", many of whom operate in some la-la land where the very words of the constitution are changed to suit their needs, and you have today's political world in a nut-shell. How appropriate.:barf: :barf:

Here's something germane to your first paragraph:

The Wall Street Journal said:
A passage from the Ayatollah Khomeini, quoted in an 11th-grade Iranian schoolbook, is revealing. "I am decisively announcing to the whole world that if the world-devourers [i.e., the infidel powers] wish to stand against our religion, we will stand against their whole world and will not cease until the annihilation of all them. Either we all become free, or we will go to the greater freedom which is martyrdom. Either we shake one another's hands in joy at the victory of Islam in the world, or all of us will turn to eternal life and martyrdom. In both cases, victory and success are ours."
And these are people who are working to build a nuclear bomb. Sleep well tonight.

I see this post brought out all the libertarians, muslim supporters, and those that wish America and all of Western Democracy would just go away.
Sorry fellows, its not going to happen. :D

Epyon said, "If Islam was such an "evil" religion then I guess every LAW ABIDING AND TAX PAYING Muslim American should be doing their duty to jihad it up right?"

Maybe they are. Maybe they are just biding their time. Maybe they are waiting for just the right moment to do their thing. Who knows? I don't, and I I'm darn sure you don't.
What I do know is this. If all those so called peace loving Muslims are so horrified by what the Muslim extremists are doing, why aren't they speking out? The silence from these people is deafening. Their silence condemns them in my not very humble opinion. I wonder why?
IIRC, the Crusades started in 1096 AD and it took until 1314 AD for them to come to an end. What brought the Crusades about? Muslim incursion into Christian lands. Look at Spain and France, both countries quivering in their boots, afraid another train might get blown up. England's not much better off.
Frankly, if the non-Muslim countries of the world don't remove their heads from their rectal orifaces pretty damn quick, there will be lot's of blood running in their streets. 9/11 was a wake up call, but unfortunately, the powers that be seem to have pushed the snooze button.
It has been said that more people have been killed in the name of religion than for any other reason. We're facing a holy war and if the powers that be don't wake up as smell the stink, well we will be in some serious stuff.
The problem with this country is we no longer have the intestinal fortitude to fight a proper war. We must be politically correct in our fighting, no collateral damage. We didn't feel that way in WW-1 or WW-2, lost some of that will in Korea and definitely was not allowed to win in Viet Nam. Now we wring our hands and the leftist media wail and moan over the Lebonese people killed by the Israelis. At least they haven't forgotten how to fight.
Face this one fact. The Muslims are NOT our friends. Not the Saudis, none of them. The Muslims in this country are not on our side. They may be very quiet, and are being very low key. Why?
I have a map in my files that shows the areas in the U.S. where there ae known cells of groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Quiada and some others I never heard of before. I don't know how to set it up and post it, but if someone wants to do it, I can link it to them in an E-mail. Just label it "map".

STOP PISSING ON PEOPLE! In other words, stop exploiting other countries for their resources, stop exploiting people with slave-like working conditions and piss poor wage.

Before the Arab nations exploited their own oil for the incredible wealth that was there to be had , and with our technology they learned to drill and pump and SELL their national resources...

They were crapping in a hole in the sand and warring with each other in a tribal fashion... from the backs of horses! and that was 1946...

Today they have the western world by the economic balls...

Pissing on them?... indeed!

After World War II... England, France Germany, Italy and Japan were all so much better of than before the war, as to become nearly different countries...
After the war they all owed us great gobs of money and we forgave the debt.

Exploiting them?... indeed!

Most of them now piss and moan about what an awful lot we are...

And we stand damed near alone in almost every issue and if they can't find a legitimate issue to blame on us... they damned well make one up... like the lying propagandists at the NY Times and the Liberal Congressmen and Senators as well.
When people speak to you about a preventive war, you tell them to go and fight it. After my experience, I have come to hate war. War settles nothing. — Dwight D. Eisenhower

I agree with that...
And if you could ask Ike if he would fight the WWII again for the same reason's...
I think he would emphatically say yes!

War is not something to be relished... it is most certainly to be avoided...
But, in a world where nearly 1/3 of the population reads the Koran and worships a god that demands the heads of infidels... WAR IS INEVITABLE!
... reading the NYTimes does not constitute being a left wing traitor. While I don't agree with everything they write, they seem much more willing to talk about things you won't see on the almighty foxnews/cnn.
Like falsehood and propaganda and opinion mongering and biased reporting of the facts...
I'm just a guy who feels like what's going on 'aint right'.
Bull-oney! You have been spewing all kinds of trash talk and you haven't made a single constructive point...

Psuedo Intelliectual?
You are "pseudo-something" but it's not intellectual.
