If I could only use one load for deer in my 7mm rem mag??

I switched over this year to Nosler 150 gr BT's from Sierra's 150 gr. SBT. I wanted to try something new. A friend of mine has always used Nosler 150 gr. The wound channel the Nosler BT creates is devastating. Can't wait til October here in S.C.!

I must say that I am pretty well a diehard .30 caliber (30.06) guy, but decided to try a 7 Mag. Being new to the 7 MAG last year I tried the factory Hornady 162 grain BTSP rounds since I didn't have time to load some rounds. I only got to shoot one deer with the 7 MAG, but it was pretty well a bang flop. I have bought a bunch of 7 MM bullets from 140's to 160's for reloading. Not sure whether to go light or heavy on the bullet weights, but where I hunt it is thick woods and up close action. I have not had time for any load development this year (dang I am getting slack) so I might just use the Hornadys again this year.

sserdlihc - you must be in the Upstate. We just opened up today in the part of SC that I live in. I've already heard of 4 bucks killed today. Not bad to get to start slaying deer on August 15th!!!!!

Yep, I am in GZ 2. I went today & cut some shooting lanes, trimmed back some trees and repaired a couple of stands. I am ready.

GOOD LUCK SCcdp!

Sierra 140g Pro Hunters.....69gr H4831, Rem cases, Rem 9/12M primers. In my rifle 3000fps. Have accounted for more than 75 whitetails in the last 44 yrs. Distances from 10 to 300+ yds. "Don't leave home without it!!!!!!"

Good luck to you too serdlihc. It's gonna have to cool down some before I start climbing trees, but there's a bunch of hogs that need stalking on land that I hunt so I reckon I'll be getting to that directly.

I'm just kiddin :D:D I have gotten some real good feedback from it and all the replies are really appreciated fellas!! Thank you all!!:)

So for use in my 7mmMag...

I should havae no problem with the 162gr SST about the 2800+ fps?

This be mostly for elk in Cascades??

What did the wound channel look like from the 162 grn.BTSP?

Dang it is hard for me to remember, but I think it went all the way through from shoulder to shoulder with alot of internal damage (that grape jelly look inside)....

+1 wap41 I'm gong to remember that as it is identical to a load I worked up for my son's 3006. Super accuracy. cool man thanks!!:D
