I want to own just one more .22 rifle. ;)

I know we've all made that statement before,,,
But I do have one or two in mind that suit my fancy.

For semi's I already own:
  • Mossberg 702 Plinkster - tricked out to be a fine Appleseed rifle.
  • Beretta NEOS Carbine - a truly unique and fun rifle.

For Bolt repeaters I own:
  • CZ-452 Military Trainer - A very lovely and superbly precise rifle.
  • Mossberg 340 KC - Ugly but just as good a shooter as my CZ.
  • Savage Mk-II F - very nice "basic" rifle.

For single-shots I own:
  • Western Field 815 - Mossberg 320 that is a 50 yard tack-driver.
  • Henry Acu Bolt - You can't get any more basic than this one.
  • H&R Sportster - Nothing special, just a decent shooter.
  • Savage 3B - It's currently being "rehabilitated".
  • Crickett - For the children of my friends.

What I'm jonesin' for now is a military style trainer of some sort.

I would sell my sister to the Gypsies for a Model 98 Mauser rimfire trainer,,,
I already own a WW-II bring back K-98 it would mate nicely with,,,
Imagine those rifles paired together in a nice wooden case. :D

Another one I like the pictures of is the Polish WZ-48 single-shot,,,
I do like the idea of a single-shot for an older rifle like this,,,
A magazine is just another thing to go bad with age.

The Wanenmacher's gun-show is about 7 weeks out from me,,,
And it's the weekend just before my 64th birthday,,,
I should have $800.00 or so socked away by then.

I know Springfield made a military trainer,,,
But from prices on gunbroker I doubt I could afford one.

So what I am asking is for you rimfire trainer owners,,,
To post images and information about your rifles.

I'm trying to discover what is available out there,,,
And which one(s) will catch my eye.

Any info will be very helpful,,,
I've got 7 weeks to gather some ideas.

Thanks gentlemen.

Military training rifles have gotten horrendously expensive. If you can find one.
There's a Mauser Werke Obendorf (Jagdwaffen) 410-B 22 cal. on Gunsinternational(#: 100598601) right now. $1599 +sh, h, ins.

Now gentlemen,,,

Now gentlemen,,,
be nice. ;)

My first rifle was an 189? Winchester pump in .22 Short,,,
I wish I still had that rifle now.

A few years back I purchased a Henry lever in .22.

I sold it because it was a huge ammo waster,,,
I spent too much time trying to be Lucas McCain.

As for Marlins,,,
I have nothing against them,,,
It's just that none have ever caught my eye.

If anything I'm a bolt-action single-shot kind of guy,,,
That's why that WZ-48 is so attractive to me.

But seriously guys,,,
What trainers are out there?

What should I be putting on my list to look for?

little over a month ago this:rolleyes: old man said he had bought his last firearm. wrong cousin has 3 old 22s dickering with him now dont need them got 4. never say never i guess

Never said this would be my last one,,,

Never said this would be my last one,,, ;)

But this time I want something of a specific style.

There was a Mosin-Nagant-ish rifle (WZ-48) chambered in .22,,,
There was a Springfield (1922?) chambered in .22,,,
There was a British Enfield chambered in .22,,,
There was a 98 Mauser chambered in .22.

I'm really trying to determine what's out there,,,
I was hoping you good folk who own one would post pics and info.

I have Googled quite a bit and found many claiming to be military trainers,,,
But to my eyes they don't match any rifle that I am aware of.

If you know of one I haven't heard about,,,
Please post some pics and tell me a bit about it.

Thanks gentlemen.

Winchester Model 52.......I know its not exactly a Military trainer as you're thinking, but the 52's were the cream of the crop for military small bore marksmen. The documentation and history behind the 52's ordered for the military is extensive in Herbert Houze's book, "Winchester Model 52, Perfection in Design". The 52 was endorsed by Colonel Townsend Whelan of the Army's General Staff and were first used at the National Matches at Caldwell, New Jersey. 1919.

No collection would be complete unless it has a Winchester 52.

How about a MAS45?
Manufactured in France 1947, Mauser tooling, & good shooter. They're still out there - I picked this one up a couple of years ago. Brand new, wrapped in original wax paper, covered with cosmoline, & untouched by human hands. Came with 6 mags & sling.

Excuse the pics - I was still cleaning off the cosmoline.

Hello Rembrandt,,,

That's one huge-mongous scope on that rifle,,,
One should be able to part a fleas hair with that rifle.

A few years back my best friend passed away,,,
She was a member of her high school rifle team in Oklahoma.

Her father was a WW-II veteran who loved guns and shooting,,,
So she had quite a few very nice rifles and pistols,,,
One was a Winchester 52 of unknown model.

Her brother did gift me one of her rifles and pistols,,,
A very nice Mossberg 340-KC and a S&W Model 34 revolver.

I tried to buy the 52 from him,,,
But he had a sentimental attachment to it.

But for this purchase I really want a military style trainer of some ilk,,,
I realize it won't be as accurate as a Winchester 52,,,
Minute of Coke Can is all I need from it.

Hello ch47gunner,,,

Thanks for posting those pics of your MAS-45.

I've read a little bit about those rifles,,,
The good folk at rimfirecentral think quite highly of them.

Howinnaheck did you find a brand new one?

I like the looks of that rifle,,,
I'll put it on the list of guns to look for at Wanenmachers.

Thanks again.

Any words on a Norinco K-98 clone in .22 LR,,,

I just got an e-mail with a link to this rifle,,,
It's a Norinco copy of a K-98 Mauser.

I knew there was a copy out there somewhere,,,
But I never would have guessed it would be a Norinco,,,
I would have assumed it would be produced by a German company.

Does anyone have any experience with one of these rifles?

I don't think I would pay what this gentlemen wants for his rifle,,,
But at least it's another one to put on my Wanenmachers list.

For now anyways my sister is safe from the Gypsies.

Yes. I have one full length and one carbine version. They are essentially the same action used on the JW15 Norinco sporters, which are, in turn, copies of CZ Brno .22 rifles (currently offered, BTW).

The "carbine" is equipped with a scope rail and takes the same scope that fits an SKS carbine with a rail.

They are both reasonably accurate and produced more or less ragged one hole groups at 25' shooting from a rest.

Since there are no more Norinco importations of these, the prices as of late are approaching what an original German KKW sells for, especially for the carbines.

I don't see them around much any more, but there is a Romanian Cugir .22 Military Training Rifle. It looks very much the part of a military training rifle too as I recall. You might scout around for one of those to see if they tickle your fancy.

Great find !!!

You did great and even the magazines are rare. I'm not sure I have ever seen a sling for these. Yes, they are pretty neat and shot great .... :)

Mags aren't particularly rare; They show up on eBay all the time. The sling is the same one used on the MAS 36, 44, 49 and 49/56. Virtually all the MAS 45 trainers that showed up in the U.S. were unfired, unissued. Used, issued ones are actually somewhat more scarce than the new ones.
