Interestingly, the new manual seems to advocate slingshotting: " . . . . pull the bolt to the rear . . . . Release the bolt so that it will fly forward."
On my second MKII, I wore out the bolt stop by using it to drop the bolt into place. I wore an angle into the stop so it would no longer hold the bolt open on the last shot. I'm sure the replacement stop wasn't expensive, and given Ruger customer service, it's possible that they didn't charge me for the part.
On my first generation 22/45, the bolt doesn't drop via the slingshot method, so some people modify it to allow this. I find it easier to just grab the back of the bolt while pressing down on the bolt release.
I'm a little jealous that you have a new pistol. I'd be interested to know the sort of accuracy you get out if the Lite upper.
