I Think I Have a Problem

I just bought my new 686 about a week ago. It's the 4" + model. I just fell in love with it right when I saw it. I have to say when I felt it, it was perfect. I pick it up on Tuesday. I don't even have it yet. I hit the show this past weekend and stocked up on a load of 38 rounds to practice with. I am looking forward to it.

So now I am thinking of getting another one already. Is this normal? Once my 30 days has gone by I'm gonna pick up a 617 10 .22 4" as well. This could become an addiction. :o

Well those are both fine guns and as I am sure you know, they are very similar, almost twins, so the 617 makes a great, low cost, realistic training tool for the 686P (as well as an all-around fun gun ;)). I have exactly the same pair, 4-inch 617 and 686P and love them both - great choice! :D

Repeat after me...

"Hi. My name is (insert your name here), and I have a firearms addiction."

to which we all reply with...

"Hello Moogs!"

Welcome to TFL. Your illness won't get any better by visiting the forum, but hopefully you will enjoy your addiction even more.

I think almost everyone on this board or at the range or at your gun shop will agree.... one, two or three is never enough!;) Once you buy one, you want them all. All firearms fascinate me for some reason.

If by normal you mean scanning the internet incessantly, researching and drooling over various firearms, and scheming over which one to pick up next...

then yes, that is normal - in my experience, at least.

Yes, guns are like crack. The more you have, the more you need. Just submit. It's healthy, costs slightly less than a really bad drug habit and for the time being, it's still legal.

hahahaahaahahaahahaahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

The real addition has not even been mentioned yet.

That would be the constant state of feeding those little babies! You put one in the chamber, and it's gone, just like that! You put six in the cylinder, again gone just like that! And heaven forbid that you get a pistol with a high cap magazine. You can't load em fast enough to feed them. Hungry little buggers!

Before you know it boxes disappear in seemingly a heartbeat! And then comes the famous line, "Out already? But, but... we just got here." As you realize that your wallet is on a steady diet and losing weight fast! (Along with you if you do not seek help immediately!)

You know those before and after pictures with someone standing in one leg of their old jeans and holding out the rest of the waist at arms length... that would be before owning guns and after.

I got that same disease in 2008 and went through a grand and a half before I knew it.
huh.. that's a pretty mild case right there..

Yeah tell me about it. Thats about an average visit to my local gun-habit enabler

Yup thats me. Totally addicted and my enabler gets a good laugh everytime I walk in to shoot and pointedly tell him I cant talk to him just shoot. He does the whole immitated drug hit whatever thing and the shop gets a good laugh.

On the subject of multiples there is nothing wrong with it. Not one bit. I have or will have in the very near future a sample of each of the 9mm M&P offerings from S&W. Each has a use and a purposeful use so there is nothing wrong with it at all.

Hello my name is Radioman and I am happily addicted to firearms. :p

If you are this bad with a 686, I can only imagine what would happen to you if you ever caught the 1911 bug.

+1

Especially with having to buy all those 'upgrades' to get it to run right, then paying to make it look halfway decent, then gunsmithing to figure out what's wrong with the darn thing..... :D

I know I have it bad. I've bought 4 handguns in the last 6 months and am consider 2 more! I certainly can't afford it, but I am finding a way.....

"I need a 357 revolver! I can't find ammo for my 45colt!"

"If I buy a 9mm or .32, I can shoot in another classification at the matches!"

I am going to lock my wallet in the safe and give my keys away for the next 6 months to let things get back on track.

You got the gun bug. I had a vault full of great revolver all cal, size and barrel length. Stopped at a gun shop one day and picked up a 2 1/2 686 Plus. Just cycled the action and had to have it. Walked out the store without the gun and came back 4 hr later and made a deal. Saved me $50 by not being to anxious

Got that fever in the 90's! We found this really great gun store and we were visiting it weekly just to drool. Our safe, that once looked like an empty warehouse turned into the closet from hell-O!
Unfortunately for my candy fever... but very fortunately for my wallet, they went under in a bum business deal that the owner got into trying to expand into other fields.

You should never ever buy a 1911.
Seriously.

I have both the 1911 bug and the S&W N-frame bug :)
If I got a part-time job to supplement my full time job, it would increase my income and keep me off the dang computer, so I'd quit finding things I want...
