I think I am in serious trouble

Saiga's gone, I'm afraid.

The Euro is worth 1.34 USD, so that is why some goods are hard to buy for me, especially as wages are lower yet retail prices are higher!!!

Just to clarify, the CZ is NOT an AK clone, nothing in common with the AK except caliber.

As for the CZ AK "lookalike". Are you sure? Have click on the link. It is the CZ858 "Tactical" webpage and it looks almost identical to an AK...

You never save money by buying a 22LR you just shoot a hell of alot more.

A $20 550 bulk pack can last me 2 and sometimes 3 range trips, where if I was firing centerfire it would cost me $60-80 easy.

I would like to know what mods have been done to that pistol (and by who) all decked out in that top picture on your link

They look a lot alike, but the action, and trigger is completely different. As has been mentioned no parts interchange between the two whatsoever, not even mags.

As far as it being superior to the AK, that's not entirely accurate, it has advantages over the AK, but also disadvantages. I've had two Vz.58's and more AK's than I'd care to count. Vz.58's are a fantastic rifle, no doubt about it. When it came time to thin out the collection, however, a Russian AK is the military-style semi-auto I chose to keep.

It's just paper money (both of them, Dollar and Euro, and they are tied to each other by the world financial system- if Greece falls, so does your Euro, and so does our Dollar.....). Backed by the confidence in the governments that print them.

I'd advise you to invest in something more ...... solid than public opinion.

And rather than have 15 different guns, how about 3-5, and ammo/components and a reloading set-up to feed them?

of your 5, you ought to have a 9mm Parabellum, a 5.56 NATO, a .22lr and a 7.62x39 ..... just because those are the most common calibers ..... I'd suggest a .38 special, too as they are easy to reload......

I suggest you sell all but one, and then practice, practice, practice. There is an old saying, 'Beware the one gun owner.' Above all enjoy. That MkIII is a nice pistol.

As far as which mods, I know I can't say, but by whom I'm pretty sure the answer is CZ themselves.

The guy pictured, if I'm not mistaken, is a factory sponsored IPSC highflyer (Martin Kamenicek) and that is one of their comp pistols with all the bells and whistles!!

Not sure it is quite CCW material, though...

What?! 3-5?! But that means I'd have to stop buying almost immediately!!!

Seriously, though, I see your point. As it happens I managed to get a copy of Lyman's 49th edition, so I can at least get a feel for reloading. As for the short list of guns, in terms of handguns, I am pretty sorted. Yes there are models I like the look of. Yes, there is a Baikal Viking on sale with 4 mags for €250 :o, but I have a mid-bore calibre Revolver, a G19 and my Ruger MkIII.

I would like a pump action or Saiga-type 12GA: I used to enjoy clay shooting and I like the capacity of such models.
I would also like a .22LR bolt action or semi rifle (A CZ can be as little €250 new to about €450, and a Ruger 10/22 €350). A cheap and unassuming way to get to grips with rifles.
I would also like to get an AK type, whether an actual AK47 (like the hungarian one on offer locally) or the CZ I mentioned above because, quite childishly, I think they are bad*ss .
I would also like a rifle such as the Mosin Nagant because they are no push-over and simplicity and sturdiness have always been two characteristics that I admire in any contraption.

But no "Would Like" is actually a "Need" at this time.
If I had to choose one definite buy, it wold probably be a toss-up between the .22 rifle, or the 12GA.

If you call this "serious trouble", then you really don't know what serious trouble is. Think the boy who cried wolf.

Mr Pond, I would have to say I know for a fact that it's a non AK.

The day I got it, compared to our last AK, a WASR10 that went bye bye.

As it is today with TRS-25, FAB forearm, folding foregrip, ergonomic pistol grip, cheek rising folding stock and Israeli patrol sling.

The vz will have more component/parts available overseas, longer time available there plus closer to the factory, but even here in the US we can get cheap magazines and parts through Czechpoint. Grab it and have fun!

I know the feeling...I started off with a MKIII 22/45. Within a month's time I added a CZ-75B and a CZ-82. If you've got the money and do your research, buy 'em all. Nothing puts a smile on your face like the first time you shoot a new or new to you gun.
