I stumbled upon a new method for getting the wife's approval.

Er, I'm pretty sure you just got yourself a new nightstand and NOT any kind of new gun or freezer.

Looks like we're going freezer shopping today, and I'll see if one of my preferred gun shops can get the "nightstand gun" on order, within the next week.

Like Sarge, my wife and I discuss any major purchase. It used to be anything over about $100, but has been pushed to about $200-250 in the last few years (stupid inflation). Lately, we haven't been able to come to an amicable conclusion to our discussions, though. So, the freezer/freezer gun and nightstands/nightstand gun conversation was a big step forward.

And, in my case, my wife is actually the primary bread-winner. This crappy economy has me back in school (and unemployed), working on my Bachelor's, so I have to be slightly more "obedient" until I get back to work.

Right now, we both want some of the same firearms, though. So, I may be nice, and order one of the revolvers she wants:
Ruger Bearcat (stainless)
Ruger Single Six (stainless)

Or... see if I can get my hands on one of the SP101s in .22 LR. She would love it, but doesn't know that model is on the market.

Wife: "Yay! I get to pick out cute nightstands!"

Has the thought occurred that you may end up spending more on the nightstands than the gun?

Fiancee and I had/have a similar deal worked out, I buy a gun and I have to take her out for dinner. Nice, right?

Wrong, all told the Kel-tec 3AT I bought a few months ago cost me $450....

The gun was around $250

I usually keep my Star Wars quotes limited to Yoda, Darth, Han, & Obi-wan, but "This deal is getting worse all the time"

Shoes, men! We need to lobby for equality in shoe-to-gun ratios.
If I made this deal I could arm a small nation with what I would have

I always find these threads amusing. I pay 85% of the bills at my house and my wife pays around 15%. I can buy pretty much anything I want. She works part time and uses her money for anything she wants. I would go bonkers if I had to say "dear can I please buy a new gun or a new guitar"? Especially being a guitar, watch, pen, flashlight, gun, knife, outdoors, and electronics nut. I have friends and brothers who live like that......they also have to get approval everytime they leave the house for more than 2 minutes.......NO WAY. and yes I been married for 24 years.

Oh, man, it is so relieving to see I am not the only flashlight nut... I love me some guns, knives, flashlights, and ball bearings! Wait, ball bearings? Did I say that out loud?

1. Why do you have so many holsters? Because they are for different outfits like shoes. That was convincing.

2. You are buying that 1911 thing - thus you can afford new drapes downstairs. We have them.

3. Sad but true. After 9/11 - you need a better scope on the AR. Thus, it was bought.

Man I find this one funny as heck. I dont ask her about any of my purchases and she dont ask me about hers. We have 3 accounts, one is joint and 1/2 our income goes there from each of s this pays the bills, the other half is ours to do with as we see fit. She wants a new truck, she goes gets it, I want a new colt, I go get it as long as we have the cash and do not use credit its all good. We have a good life and very little argueing, well since I got her ammo........

My wife doesn't complain about my firearm habit.

I don't complain about her Holsteiner horse habit.

She's bought me holsters; I've bought her a riding helmet and other gear.

I shoot IDPA, she does Dressage.

I don't think either of us would even consider getting on the other about their hobbies, although she did raise an eyebrow at me once or twice. But then again, she suggested I should get a bigger gun safe.

So I am.

As long as the bills are covered, and nobody's left out, what is the issue?

Buy a new gun, bring it home. Claim to have won the gun at a shooting competition or raffle or something.

The next time one of your buddies comes over, have him ask to see "the gun you won in that raffle" so the woman can hear.

I've used this with anything from guns to tattoos to performance parts for the Camaro. :D

The freezer has been ordered (5 to 10 days for delivery). ;)

The nightstands have not yet been located.

"Freezer gun" funds have been allocated. (Going to try to get my hands on the SP101 in .22 LR, or a Browning 1911-22.)

Maybe the nightstand gun can match the freezer gun, i.e. an SP101 in a center fire caliber or a 1911 in .45ACP.

Might want to avoid the self defrosting freezers the condensation could be bad for your gun. Unless you get one of those newfangled guns designed especially for freezer storage. Come on, if they make dishwasher guns there must be freezer guns.:D

Why, I'd have to build an aircraft hangar just to hold them all

Man, that was a fun one! :D. Just if I had a gun for every five pairs of shoes she's got, I'd have around 10 to 12 ones.

I guess there's no one that has no need to "negotiate", one way or the other, regarding this issue or that one, with his wife/girlfriend. In my case, we earn more or less the same, so we've set up a "common expenses box", and what's left of each other's salary is to be spent freely. So whenever I show up with a new toy, she has nothing to complain about.

I told my wife about the nightstand gun and getting a new nightstand. She thought that was pretty good. Luckily she is somewhat into guns and getting more into them as time goes by. But, with a new bundle of joy on the way (just found out yesterday at 1:00am) I think my gun budget is going to be miniscule for a while. Luckily we had discussed and agreed upon me getting a Saiga rifle before we found out about the new baby.
