I picked up two new Taurus this weekend!

been thinking about the raging judge, kind of scared of buying a taurus?
i do like to make hotter loads, wonder if it would hold up.
ive always like taurus pricing.
-sweet guns, give us update down the road.

They're impressive looking guns (especially the Raging Judge) however I have to question the usefulness of either gun. Personally every one of my guns has a use other than just being a range toy (even if they're "designated" as such by me). That being the case what's the purpose of the Raging Judge? its too large to carry (unless you're open carrying) and frankly what do you need that kind of firepower for? In case you run into a grizzly in downtown Austin?

In any case typically a gun that is designed to shoot different types AND calibers of ammo doesn't shoot great with any... I mean sure you can shoot a .44sp through a .44mag and .38sp through a .357mag but the Raging Judge was designed to shoot .410 shot, .454 Cas AND .45LC.

Sounds like a jack of all trades and master of none to me.

In any case you should have fun with the gun and get lots of oohs and aahs at the range.

Another assumtion based on no experience with the gun mentioned. You should shoot one before you assume. It shoots the .454 loads as good as any gun desighned to shoot .454 only. I know from experience of shooting a Ruger Alaskan in the .454 and the regular Raging Bull in the .454. It also shoots the .45 LC just as good as any other that I have shot in the past. I am not really fond of the .45 LC round but thats beside the point. As for the .410 rnd, It shoots it better than the smaller Judges or Governor. So a novelty, I think not! And as far as what does anytbody need with that kind of firepower, same reason some people need a .50 S&W, cause they want one and that don't make it wrong and apparently not useless.

I admit I haven't shot the Raging Judge. I have however shot the Judge and shot the Raging Bull... While the Raging Bull shoots beautifully I was less than impressed with how the Judge shot.

Sure it shot fine with .45LC and it shot fine with .410 cartridges but I don't believe it shot as well as other pistols I've shot in .45LC (Taurus Vaquero, Colt revolver - forgot model - in .45LC). I can also say that it most certainly did not shoot the .410 as well as if I were to shoot the shell out of a .410 shotgun.

Basically as I said before - its a fine gun but not a great one. Not great at either cartridge it was designed to shoot. Lots of people I know have purchased the Judge and I know of 2 fellows who have purchased the Raging Judge. I've had no real desire to shoot the Raging Judge or I would have done so by now.

As for being useless I didn't say it was useless. I asked what use the OP would have for them. I personally don't have a use for it and as such I wouldn't purchase it. I personally think a .45-70 revolver is cool as all get out but I wouldn't purchase it because I have no reason to have it other than because its cool. I guess I'm a bit more conservative with my funds - preferring to put it to more important things like feeding the guns I already have.

Love the case. Not sold on the guns, I own a taurus M44 and love it but I cant get over the fact that they put fixed sights on the raging judge and that the polymer judge weighs more than the steel model.
