Hi guys, just won a Savage Stevens Model 305 (.22 WMR) in an auction. It comes with iron sights. My question is what size rings do I need for this gun. If you can share links for ones I can buy on midwayusa or cheaperthandirt I'd appreciate it. Also I am looking to scope it in for 125 yards and I love bushnell. any suggestions for the scopes? Thanks again guys!

PS: We are using this rifle for our groundhog problem.

Rings depend on the scope and base that you have. I personally like a 3-9x40 scopes for applications out to about 250 yards.

Does the rifle come with scope bases (or a one-piece base)? If it does then all you need is a 3-9x40 scope and low-height rings.

it just says its drilled and tapped for scope mounts. I am looking for a mil dot scope for it. Any suggestions on a quality one for under $140?

Okay, then you will need to get bases as well. As for a quality mil-dot scope for under $140, well, it is hard to find a quality scope for $150, much less under it. If I were you, I would go with a Nikon Pro-Staff with their BDC reticle.

It is about $40 over what you are wanting to spend, but it is of much better quality than anything that you will find under $150. And the mil dots really are not something I would worry about for ground hog hunting; the BDC will do what you want much better.

I'va had some good luck with bushnells in the past and that one I showed, I think I am gonna jump on that one. I realize its not the best scope out but I will max out at 125 yards at most and the Bushnell I had for my .22 LR did good to about 100 yards. So what base and rings do I need for it again. Again this is the one I wanted: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/9-62361

thank you so much. I did not want the scope to sit up too high. I wanted a way that as easy to assemble and take down easy if I wanted to use the irons. Thanks a lot.

Not a problem, 99% of the time, low rings work just fine for 40mm and smaller objective diameters. Good luck with it, and let us know how it turns out.... And pictures are always welcome. Good hunting!

Thanks, I will have pictures up when the gun arrives. Also one other question. I wanted to attach a decent bipod. I love my Wal-Mart Winchester bipod I got because it was built strong. It didnt have the spring shooting legs, but that doesnt matter to me. I had a UTG which was garbage and broke after only 3 range trips. Any ideas on another Bipod like the winchester I have? I'd buy another but I cant find them in stock anywhere.

Harris makes great bipods and I love mine, but they can be pricey (more expensive than that scope you are getting). Caldwell makes some good more affordable bipods, as does Blackhawk. I see Blackhawk bipods often at my local Academy.
