I need advice on new custom target rifle

Bart,
I'm trying to keep my options open. Right now, I'm not planning on competing because most of matches at my range are held on Sunday. I'm committed on Sundays, but that may change sometime in the future. At that time I might start competing in XTC.

The appeal of less recoil is always good, as no one is getting younger.

Stepping up to 6.5 or 7mm gives better wind bucking bullets as well. 260, 6.5x55, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5x284, 7mm-08, 7mm Mag, are all good candidates.

6.5 Creedmoor and 7-08 would be my choices if you want something different than .308...

Agree with Precision shooter...

The 6.5 Creedmore, .260Rem and 7mm-08 all have factory ammo and easy supplies of components. Barrels tend to be a little less too.

Thanks for all the advice guys I really appreciate it.

I hope I'm not hurting anyone feelings, but I've settled on the 6XC because it gives me the flexibility of going with a more mainstream cartridge like the 308, 243 or 260 if I change my mind in the future.

I bought a Brux (1:8 twist) barrel simply because I'm partial to fluted barrels and it was the only one I could find. I'm going to put in my order now for my next barrel. It will be a Krieger (1:7). I'm going with a Pierce action and let them do the chambering, assembly and finishing thing. I hope I'm not wasting my money.

I can't find 6XC ammo anywhere, so I bought 1,000 Norma cases from Midsouth. Couldn't find smaller quantities anywhere, I may have gone overboard on this and may wind up putting some of those cases up for sale later.

SSS (David Tubb) doesn't have a seating die in stock, but I'm hopeful that by the time I get my rifle, maybe they'll get one in. The real thing that's troubling me is that of the 5 books I have (Sierra, Nosler, Speer, Hornady and Lyman) none of them have data on the 6XC. Where do you get the reloading info?

Eppie said in response to contacting Lester Bruno who has many barrel blanks in stock: Thanks for your response, but I'm a bit risk averse and I have learned that haste makes waste, and that patience is golden.

I fail to see how contacting someone who has the barrel you want in stock can be possibly viewed as risky or wasteful. But OK...

If you desire a custom action and gunsmithing, Lester Bruno can also help you out here.

Sorry stubbicat, I meant from a hurry perspective. I looked at Bruno's web site, but unfortunately nothing there appealed to me. I have bought from Bruno before and will again.
