I have seen folks come up to the TX CHL test with mags loaded like that HK.
It's possible to do the same thing with Glock magazines. In fact, it'll even chamber a round that way. It's all sorts of fun to extract the errant cartridge.
 
That HK mag is just an ambi-mag, that's all

re: clip. I have a rifle designed for them. Two really, but one has a scope now and the clip won't work- an M1 rifle and an M1903A3 rifle. One takes an en bloc and the other a stripper

In WWII, many GIs called magazines 'clips'. You and I know that a clip isn't a mag. Don't let it bug you
 
Well, Tom - did someone take a rod and hammer it down the barrel on the reversed round?
For a split-second, I was about to do that. In the end, we had to pry the bullet out with needle-nose pliers. I made a big show of it, with one of my co-workers and I trading technobabble like surgeons on television.
