I just won an auction for a Mauser ES340B,,,
It stock has been altered but the Mauser mark is clear,,,
And the metal of the gun is very fine so I can live with the stock.

The rifle will ship in a new hard case (probably an inexpensive Plano),,,
And with shipping and transfer fee I got it for a total of $322.45.

If the stock ever starts to bother me,,,
I'll just make a leather cheek piece/sleeve for it.

This rifle will satisfy my desire for a rimfire companion to my K-98.

So now all of my leftover Wannenmacher's money is spent,,,
I have $16.12 left out of the original $1,000.00 I had saved up.

What a fun few days this has been for me. :D

Beautiful rifle Aaron! I bought a similar one back in July of 2014, my rifle is a GECO military trainer. I really like mine and one of these days I'll fix it up a little with a new sporter stock and hopefully a safety. I'd love to fix it up in the style of the old cigarette rifles from the late 1940's.

Thanks Gentlemen,,,

I've wanted a rimfire companion for my 8mm K98 for some time now,,,
It took a long while to get beyond the "it must be a perfect matching KKW" thinking.

When I saw the condition of the blue on this one,,,
I said to heck with the KKW desire,,,
This rifle is an absolute beauty,,,
And affordable to boot.

I really just wanted something period with the true Mauser action,,,
And I always want a shooter rather than just a show piece.

I grew up watching those old Great White Hunter movies,,,
My dream gun back then was one of those safari rifles,,,
This rifle reminded me of those old childhood desires.

It looks like something Stewart Granger would have carried,,,
I wonder if one can take out a charging lion with a .22,,,
Perhaps I better stick to feral bunnies and squirrels.

Now I need to go out and buy some jungle khaki's to match it. ;)

Aaron just Google cigarette rifles and click on images.. Cigarette rifles were military sporter usually made for an occupying U.S. Soldier after WWII. They are called cigarette rifles because they were made on the black market for a carton or two of cigarettes.

Thank you sir,,,

I did google it and came up with lots of images,,,
Thanks for this new knowledge.

In the 70's I do remember how much a carton of smokes would get you,,,
I used that barter system myself on many occasions,,,
But never for a rifle.
