I just made an impulse buy of Weatherby Ammo

I was at Cabela's at 9am today; joining in the madness of trying to get some of the ammo that might have arrived overnight. No joy on the 9mm I needed but as I was walking away, I noticed 3 packages of Weatherby 257 100 gr spritzer for $39.95 each. All other Weatherby ammo was circa 75 bucks. Without thinking, I scooped them up.

OK, I shoot several Weatherby guns (including a 257) and generally have tons of brass accumulated over the years. So I did not need to make this purchase. But has anyone seen this price in the past few years? Is this the normal price for this load? Will this madness ever go away? So many questions... so few answers... :D
 
Mostly I've been able to resist impulse buying lately, though I did a bit of that earlier in all this Obamamess. I will say that I haven't bought anything that I won't eventually need. I am getting antsy to get the Lapua 223 brass I ordered (backordered) a month or two (or three) ago. Who knows when all the brass-making elves in Finland will send my cases.
 
Ive noticed things like 30.06 and .270 and things like that are generally in stock. Its .223, 9mm, .45... stuff like that that everyone buys up. Yesterday at walmart they actually had some .45acp and some other stuff, but no .223, which is what i wanted. this random act of stupidness is slowing down.
 
From what I have been hearing lately, that's pretty normal for .257 Weatherby in my area. This area has a fair amount of competition and usually has more reasonable prices than most of the country, though.

A side note... Illogically, Norma .257 brass is always more expensive than the loaded Weatherby ammo. (and it's all Norma.)
 
Aaaarrrrggggghhhhh... You're right. 37 bucks for my purchase and 40 bucks for virgin brass. Go figure :rolleyes:

Oh we'll, it'll be interesting to see how we'll the factory ammo groups compared to my meticulously-hand-loaded rounds... It's been many moons since I've done that experiment...
 
The ammo you purchased is made in the same plant as the high end Wby ammo BUT. It is loaded with Norma made bullets rather than the US made bullets being shipped to Norma for loading and then reimported to the USA. From my personal use of the 257Wby 100 grain "generic" ammo, I've found it is slightly lower velocity VS the high $$ stuff. It is deer/coyote adequate.
 
No, I ordered 6 boxes of them last year from Midway. Thats what I hunt with. Thats how I knew what they cost.:)

I was just back at Cabela's and their stock has not yet been replenished... The madness continues and the specter of bartering for ammo may be getting nearer... :eek:
