I Just Bought My First Colt Combat Commander

Mine hasn't shipped yet, pretty sure they were swamped with orders coming into Christmas, they had a post saying to allow an extra time for processing. Looking forward to seeing pics of yours, Joe, so I know what to expect!

Well, the Colt arrive today and I have to say that it is a VERY nice piece. The fit and finish are outstanding. I put some Andean Alder grips by Esmeralda on it even though the Colt grips were very nice. It makes me wish I would have ordered the Government model also while the rebate is going on. I haven't cleaned up yet, but here's a pic.

The Freedom group had looked at Colt for possible acquisition and according to the info I read too much debt and the group passed on buying Colt.

I think we can all wipe our brow and thank our lucky stars that didn't happen. Freedom Group does nothing but destroy companies - reference Remington, Marlin, et al.

I would rather see Colt for bankruptcy than sell to FG. Yuck.

I waited a day too long on these commanders. Wish I had pulled the trigger but I had already bought too much.

Colt Combat Commander

My first centerfire handgun was a Colt Combat Commander that I bought used for $230 in March of 1978.

Used it to shoot in local IPSC matches for years. Still shoot it in a match once in a while.

I carried it on-duty as a cop for 6-1/2 years.

The only modifications I did were to put bigger sights and a bigger safety on it, and a trigger job (to about 4-3/4 lbs). More recently I put a beavertail grip safety on it.
