Forgive me for bringing this up, but WHY are we concerned about what anyone else is doing with their money?

It would concern me if they are trying to create a shortage and I can't find ammo (or any product) that is available or affordable..it would make me really angry.
And you think that one person on Gunbroker could buy enough .22 ammunition to affect the market? Even if it were actually happening, which I still doubt?

In any case, the free market is still the free market.

No more than one house flipper could cause a real estate crash...but a lot of them could cause trouble.

In any case, the free market is still the free market.

A free-for-all isn't particularly free. It is costly.

So several folks artificially inflate the ammo market prices and eventually it crashes and ammo prices drop back to former or even lower level? I can live with that.

I can't post buyer's ID because like I said I heard it from a 3rd party and didn't see it for myself.

I understand.

My son's dog's roommate's second cousin's next door neighbor once landed on the moon and discovered the largest known frisbee ever launched by the Canadian Space Agency.
...That's what my wife said, anyway. ;)

Until recently I hadn't bought any ammo for more than a year...I got the word from a big gun store here in Phoenix that at least part of the 22 shortage was simple capitalism at it's worst....buying massive amounts of 22s creating a shortage then selling it at inflated prices. Hence, the limits at stores now. As we talked we both agreed that as ammo supply slowly comes back they will have to unload or get stuck with a lot of ammo that nobody will buy at their prices.

It will take a little while but that's what will happen. Prepping will die down and new shooters will simply stop buying .22 rifles. Heck, I went looking for a Savage Mark II at the local Sportsman's Warehouse last weekend and the guy at the gun counter looked at me like I was nuts when I told him I'd take it.

It is slowly happening now..to the point that I want to buy a good 22 soon.

I heard this second hand

Conspiracy Theories are now being shown to often be real conspiracies these days.
There are a lot of People who go to gun shows buying up .22s at Wall Mart and other places.
Sometimes it never makes it into the store. Several have been caught selling the entire lot however small or big to friends or family or bought themselves.
It shows up at gun shows at the typical double reasonable or more prices.
The Bloombergs, in the game: who knows. It wouldn't take but one or two to keep all the various sites who auction ammo or sell it retail to tie up or buy everything in sight.
Perhaps the Gun Show sellers figure Obama will eliminate supply all together, or some such, and they will make their fortunes.
half a million dollars is not so much these days.
Doubt Government would do it.
They would just contract with the manufacturers as before and dy up supply.
I think by just reasoning a lot of ammo is being still being taken out of the general supply by Government purchase.
What will they do with all they bought before? A whole lot of it is not really Military use unless they intend to put the Troops on the streets with Pistols and sub machine guns.

Tinbucket, and others....

Conspiracy theories about ammunition availability are not currently welcome.
You may want to read the first post of this thread, for the current discussion recommendations: Where is everything?

It does no good to keep harping on crap that can't be proven, and most of us don't want to read it, anyway.....
