I havent realized how expensive handguns are getting nowadays. Until today i went looking for a good inexpensive handgun for around $300. To my suprise there are none. They are all $300+ Stupid gun dealer said "if you want anything under $300 you better go with a Hi Point". Im like yeah and walked straight out the door. =-O

I agree with JohnKSa, the Ruger P95 is a good, quality gun, and probably the best value you can find on a new quality firearm. You could also look at Sigmas, and maybe some of the Taurus' guns, and then yes there are Hi-Points.

Or you could go for a used gun in that price range, but I would go with either the P95 or Sigma.

Good Luck!

Pardon me for saying, but you need to find another dealer. There are a number of decent handguns available in the price range you're in. Just to name a few, Taurus, Rossi, Charter Arms and Bersa. You're going to hear some bashers about some of these brands, but I have had good experiences with all of these brands, and I have carried a Rossi 462 daily for the past 4 years or so and fired over a thousand rounds through it with no issues at all. Plus, there is always the used market. I think your dealer is out more to pad his pockets instead of satisfying a customer.

For a new SD gun under $300, your options are limited if you want it to work
well. The aforementioned HiPoint or S&W Sigma. The Sigma is the better choice. Plus S&W will un-lawyer the heavy trigger for free. It will still be heavy for a semiauto but it will be pullable by a single person.

Now for under $400 you can pick up a Charter Arms revolver, a variety of Taurus models and a few others.

Good luck. And don't forget the used market for some more options.

Another recent thread to review: Hi-Point vs. Taurus vs. Charter Arms.

$300 will get you into the range of your basic blued Taurus .38 snub or Charter Arms equivalent.

Less money than that, Makarov (if you can find one), CZ-82. Used revolvers, Ruger autos, etc., as they might be found (good luck).

In my area, a Pawn shop is a great place to get a good deal on a pistol or rifle. I recently picked up a like new Makarov, made in Russia in .380 caliber with 2 magazines and a case for $120. They had it marked "small black pistol". Unless its one of the newest, greatest guns out there, the Shop will usually come down on the asking price and make you a good deal.
After carefull inspection, I buy 90% of my guns this way.

Not in MY area (excepting the occasional good used deal).

Not even sure that you can find something used for that price. Save up another hundred or so and look for something nice in a good used gun. Don't settle for cheap you won't be happy:D

Not sure where you shop but a NIB Ruger P95 is $269-$319 (online/in store), and thats only 20 bucks more.

Buy yourself a Ruger P-Series, (P89, P90, P95, P97, P94) (used is OK) and call it a day. You will have a gun that will more than likely outlast you.

"I don't care what you buy ! you don't get much for $300. "

Well I got a 3" 65-3 and a 686 no dash (needed some work) both were used and under 300$...Now I don't know much but I feel I got more than a fair deal.

A few Pawn shops around here have my number and know what I like...build a relationship at a pawn shop and the deals will make you "broke"

Many options in that price range...me I would rather get an old used gun than a new modern gun...no love for the plastics here:D
