I HATE Maryland!

Maryland has a free Collector's License available by submitting paperwork to the State Police. It absolves you of the 30 day per purchase restriction.

The Maryland Small Arms Range, off of Old Marlboro Pike, by Rte.4, is a pretty friendly place. It's an enclosed pistol range, though. The Consolidated Gun Clubs of Maryland operates a range system in Marriottsville, outside of Baltimore, that's also nice. Rifle, pistol, and shotgun ranges.

The Maryland anti-gunners are banking on support from O'Malley, the new governor, and former mayor of Baltimore. It will be up to the people to let the Maryland Legislature know that they will be looking for a job if they vote for any more gun control. The House Speaker made the announcement several years ago that Glendenning's Bills were going to be the end of gun control legislation in Maryland. The Governor of Maryland isn't a particularly powerful position, the real power lies in the legislature. The anti-gunners are already reeling from the waste of money invested in the shell-casing law.

It won't take long to disprove the long-gun crime stats. Even inner-city thugs in Maryland still favor pistols. Just ask the Baltimore City Police Department.

Oh, I lived in Maryland, in Laurel, for 57 years, having just left in June, 2005.:)

Thanks for the info!
I'm not sure what the criteria is for such a license but it may just be worth looking into. :)

There is really no specific criteria. You must acknowledge that you are a collector. You'll be issued a card for your wallet.:)

Maryland does sort of suck as things stand now. The question is: What we're going to do about it?

Yes, Mikulski is a little gnome. O'Malley is going to screw with us big time. Gansler will prosecute us.

Again....what are we going to do about it?

Leaving the state is a temporary solution to a permanent problem, as I'm fond of saying. Sure you can go to Virginia.....but have you seen the latest election results there? If places like MD, NJ and NY get even worse and become the impetus for a renewed effort nationwide, there won't be anywhere that gun owners can retreat to. We have to fight them here.

We KNOW there will be anti-gun legislation this session. We KNOW O'Malley will sign it. We KNOW what those days of sitting in the hearings are like.

Here's what we can do. Start writing those letters and making those phone calls now. Save up your personal/sick/vacation days so that when the hearings are posted you can make the trip to Annapolis to stand up to these bastards.

Just to impress upon you what will be lost if we don't fight them....come out and join your fellow gun owners at the Regional The Rally Point shoot to be held at the DelMarVa range near Cambridge on Saturday, January 13th.

The main informational thread for the shoot can be found at:

http://www.therallypoint.org/forum/index.php?topic=885.0

The range is Class III friendly and you can shoot all day for only $10.00. There will be NRA certified instructors on hand to teach new shooters and Pacer will be running a Mini-Appleseed rifleman clinic for only $15.00 to cover the cost of materials.

Members of Maryland Shall Issue will be on hand to talk about plans for the upcoming general assembly and to answer any questions on how you can get involved.

We'd love to have you join us there.

What Norton Said - especially the part about coming out to the Regional Shoot in January! DW and I will be there with our rifles - such as they are (.22s only, unless I buy something with my new C&R between now and then).

I, too, think MD sucks for its repressive gun laws, and as soon as I retire, I'm quite likely going to move someplace like New Hampshire or Vermont; NH is a Shall Issue state, and Vermont doesn't even regulate hand carry! In the meantime, I'm going to make sure my voice gets heard.

Constant attention to one's legislators is the price of "representative rule", and as others here have so aptly stated, the most prudent course of action is to let your voice be heard by your elected official. I've also heard that one of the "
rules of thumb" for politicians is that every single letter represents 100 voters. I don't know if that follows true for emails too, so I tend to send snail mail when I'm trying to make an impression on how vehemently I feel about something.

All the best,
Rob Weaver

During a 1 year stint in Rockville, a CDNN catalog showed up at my workplace. The young lady in charge of opening the mail freaked and turned me in to management. Though much consternation was in evidence, it was unclear what protocol was breached.

Around a year later, a Bushmaster Dissipator upper arrived at my workplace in Texas. The young lady in charge of the mail opened the thing and, noting the contents, checked for clear, brought it to me and inquired when I was taking her to the range.

I love this place.

Ah feel your pain.

Perhaps check with Dave McC in the shotgun forum - he's in MD and may have a line on some handgun ranges.

30 day limit

Just a note.

There is a form you can fill out in Maryland and send in (I picked mine up at Atlantic Arms a few years ago) that will designate you as a "Collector" and exempt you from the "one every 30 days" limit.

Total cost... the price of a stamp.
