I had a visit from the feds yesterday afternoon

ask them if the first wife buried in the basement counts as a resident.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what is for lunch.
Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the outcome of the vote.
Let he that hath no sword sell his garment and buy one. Luke 22-36
They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night. Song of Solomon 3-8
The man that can keep his head and aims carefully when the situation has gone bad and lead is flying usually wins the fight.

I'm disappointed. The nose-counters haven't come to harass me yet... or maybe they strolled up the driveway, saw the Libertarian Party sticker on the truck, and figured I wasn't worth the trouble. ;)

Whittle his own, I would think. Self-sufficiency is a libertarian feature, you know. Besides, keeping skeletons in the closet encourages mould. Trust me, I know.

My retired father helps collect the count. He stated that the majority of the people he works with are in their sixties and seventies, and are ex-military retirees. Don't be too harsh on them- they come from an era where "helping out the government" was a rallying call. :)

I'm still waiting for my first visit or call. I did the same last time around and never had anyone come by or call. I'll be polite, as I know they're just someone trying to make a couple bucks. But the only answer I'm giving is "2", the number of people who live in our home (the kitties don't count, since they are above such silly human considerations ;) ).

UPDATE

The same enumerator came to the house again today. I was sleeping. My wife said he knew we didn't want to fill out the long form, but would we be interested in filling out the short form? My wife said no.

He mentioned that he remembered me, and remembered what I had said about WWII, so I guess I made some kind of impression on him.

census has been taken since 1790. it has always asked for names. genealologists rely on such data to see where great, great, great, great whoever was from. the constitution actually allows congress to make up the questions that you b*tch about. if all this noncompliance leads to statistical sampling in the next census, hold on to your hats. more democrats' here we come (if there is anything left for democrats to f*ck up in 2010).

Apperently they will make several requests for the info in person and by phone before giving up. See previous post in this thread about that.

Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several states which may be included within this union, according to their respective numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole number of free persons, including those bound to service for a term of years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. The actual Enumeration shall be made within three years after the first meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent term of ten years, in such manner as they shall by law direct.
Ok folks, so are we wrong about the number of persons being the only constitutionally authorized question?

my take is the census either long or short form, is constitutional ('in such manner as they shall by law direct'). names, ages, birthdates, and locations up to a city level wouldn't bother me. a lot of people kind of like to know where their great, great, great, great, great whoever was from. something about being 'family people'. the other sh*t, though not used for harm except by the democrat/communist roosevelt, is intrusive.

I had the same visit today.
I seems that all the census forms that were sent in from where I live got "lost". So they sent out this census Nazi to count me. It seems a little strange that this happened. I thought that our wonderful government was the most efficient thing in the known universe. ;)

Umm, folks? The people who show up at your door aint the ones busting up the constitution, or devising some political scheme. They are people working a temporary job to pay bills. Some of them may live in an area where it is difficult to get a job. You can now rant on about how could they do that, I would rather starve, well, you have the freedom of choice to starve then. I have a helluva lot more respect for someone earning a dollar than recipients of transfer payments at the local welfare office.

(I know someone who is doing this to earn some good money while putting himself through college. When I tried to talk him out of it, he told me he could not find anything available that paid that well, he was going to cash in on this opportunity while it was available.)

Just like "gun control" issues - blame the people responsible, not the ones who just happen to be easily accessible.

And when they tell you that the information is confidential, ask about the 900+ FBI files that turned up in the White House. How IRS data has been used by this mis-administration for political purposes. And the ATF has been making lists of gun owners, against fedral law. Ask how we are supposed to trust them.

My wife and I have never been anything but cordial to the enumerator. Just a polite but firm "no."

I considered becoming an enumerator when they were recruiting, just for some extra cash, even though I have philosophical objections.

After studying The Constitution, it seems that our contention that the only question authorized is the number of people, is erroneous.

I was in in the garage with the door up, playing with my Dillon reloaders whe the census gal strolled up my driveway. She politely asked if I could spare the required 1/2 hr. I said "Nope, mailed in the short form 2 weeks ago." Then I closed the garage door.
