I Guess I'm Getting Old

How does getting old correspond to preferring nineteenth century weaponry?

Certainly you are not old enough for it to be nostalgia.

Cars were created in the same century - does driving one of them fit your criteria as well?

A SxS, especially a nice English style game gun, is something of a miracle - 6 pounds in 12 gauge, it moves like a wand in your hand

OP says he must getting old, because he likes SAA, sxs, and a lever action .38-55 better than the new fangled ones. What I'm saying is... what does it have to do with getting old? He certainly isn't pining away for the days of his youth. Unless he is a hundred and something. If so my apologies.

I like them both and think they both have their place in a collection. I am as giddy as a school girl right now because tomorrow I am going to replace a lever action I sold with a brand new one.:D I will likely be just as excited when I go to purchase my long awaited AR 10, Springer 1911, and by then some other must have.

I grabed the first Glock at speed video I could find.

If nothing else, that is one cameraman who won't be offending anyone else in the future.

For the SAA-style, I like it for accuracy and due to difficulty/time it takes to reload, I find myself for apt to make my shots count. Cocking the hammer with each shot also helps to slow everything down to retain fundamentals.

Most decent shooters can shoot circles around a double action revolver with a semi auto. Not to mention a SAA. I'm talking about any sort of combat/defensive type course of fire. That fact has been well known since the 1950s.

Unfortunately, there are a lot more of the "Pray and Spray" type shooters than most people want to admit. The folks who come to this forum are more likely to practice, I believe, more often.

I stopped by a public range a few days ago to see if there was any brass that needed picking up. There were about ten guys there and nary a revolver to be seen.

Watching them shoot, I have to admit they scared the heck out of the paper, but did not hit the targets very often. I think they were there to make noise, not actually shoot the targets.

One young man had four empty boxes of 9mm ammo and during a cease-fire yelled out. "Anyone have any ammo they want to sell?" The paper target was still in good shape.

Harrumph! Harrumph!

Old ye say? Old am I?.. humph!!!

I wonder how many of those who deride so called 19th century technology have ever been in a real civilian armed confrontation. The thing about old guys is... many of us have. I am old... and so most of my guns are old. Oh I do own quite a few plastic whiz bang 15 round wonder guns... But my fighting experience is with what one might consider 19th century technology.

IMO the word tactical is way overused. It's come to be something made of black plastic, with every accessory available hanging on to the gun. Tactical is a frame of mind... thats it... firearms are inanimate... they dont have a frame of mind.

Older guys tend to view the firearm as a tool. Unless you've seen someone shot with a 12 guage, or been shot with one... you cant understand how anyone would be comfortable with a SxS.

On an average range trip I see plenty of people with 15 shooters. For the most part they can put 15 rounds in the target before I can put 6. and at the end of the string... they have an empty gun and I still have two rounds.

Mr. Hughes,

I was just reading through the thread and saw your post.

I am sorry for your news and my prayers will be added.

God bless
