I got pulled over by a LEO

Now I have to say that my Highway Patrol experiences have been almost universally positive, but the Texas State Troopers are extremely professional and polite. When I was young, must have been '78 or so, I broke down on an old Norton, on HW 10, in Alabama. I had long hair, an FTW tshirt, and a .45 in my saddlebag (.45 acp, don't leave home without it!) An Alabama Trooper pulled up, got out and walked towards me. His right thumb was hooked casually around the big revolver on his belt, and I was having images of the classic "You in a heap o' trouble, boy!". Actually he helped me tie my front wheel in the trunk of the patrol car, and towed me to a truck stop, sat and had breakfast with me, and gave me two passes to take a tour of the state capitol. Turns out he had a Harley he bought when he got back from 'Nam. Great guy, I was REALLY embarrassed to tell him how scared I was when he walked up.

Oh - thats right - the back of the car said SHERRIF on it![/quote]

That would make me suspicious, a jurisdiction that can't spell SHERIFF!

Sorry, could not resist. :)

...I was stuck on the side of the road. Plenty of Highway Bandits- I mean troopers went by... no one stopped to help. Ever. ...

My aunt got a flat tire on I-55 outside of Chicago once, and a kindly trucker stopped to help her. An Illinois State Police car stopped, told the trucker to get lost...and LEFT THE POOR WOMAN TO FEND FOR HERSELF! NO call for assistance - wouldn't call the auto club for her (this was before cell phones) and certainly wouldn't help her himself! Miserable son of a &^%@! left her there to fend for herself after chasing her help away.

$100? That's nothing, I just got popped with $300 for crossing through the double yellow to exit the carpool lane! Damn CHP and their beautiful BMW motorcycles.

Whoops, sorry about the above post.

I recently was stopped by a City cop in West Virginia. We were in my 2000 Dodge Mini-van and my friend was driving, I was sitting right behind him. He was stopped for going 77 in a 55. I agree, he was guilty of speeding. But here is what upset me?

When the cop asked for Lic. and Reg. My friend gave him his license and said that it wasn't his vehicle, so he didn't have the registration. I spoke up and said, "Sir, it is my Van (and I slid the driver's side door open). I told my other buddy where the registration was and he pulled it out of the glove box. I hand it to the cop and then he says too me, "You better be glad I am not giving you a ticket too!" I say, "What?" He says: "Yep, in West Virginia the law allows us to ticket the owner of the vehicle too for allowing it to be driven illegally." I say, "He's an adult" (he is 33 years old) as I point to my friend in the driver's seat. I say: "Maybe it he was a 16 or 17 year old, but not with him being an adult." The cop says: "Yep, by law, I am allowed too ticket you too, but I'm not going too."

Does anyone in West Virginia know if that is a law or not. If it is, I THINK IT IS CRAZY! --plinker2--
