I found a revolver,,,

A few weeks (months) back I read a thread where a gentleman found a handgun in his safe that he had forgotten he owned,,,
My response (not posted) to this was how can someone forget about a gun they own!

So just this last weekend I was unpacking the last few boxes I had in a storage bin,,,
I just bought a home so I'm finally unpacking boxes from the 70's thru 90's.

Guess what I found in one of them?

It's a pistol I've had since I was a kid,,,
Perhaps the first pistol I owned that wasn't from family,,,
This little .22 short revolver is a true Saturday Night Special .

Black paint on some alloy frame,,,
Front sight is a pressed on barrel ring,,,
Fake (ugly) mother of pearl plastic handgrips,,,
.22 short only, making this a true Sat Night Special.

My point is that I laughed at the gentleman,,,
Who forgot he had a very nice pistol lost in his safe,,,
Then I discover that in essence I was guilty of the same thing.

I remember when I bought this pistol from someone in my neighborhood,,,
In retrospect I'm pretty sure I gave a whopping $5.00 for it,,,
I never shot it even once and just kept it in a drawer,,,
Then it got packed in that box and forgotten,,,
Until chance had me unpack that box.

Out of sight means out of mind,,,
Still can't believe I forgot a firearm I owned,,,
No matter how intrinsically worthless, it's still a handgun.

Sheesh!
I'm must be gettin' old,,,
My brain cells, they are a fadin'.

Think back real hard folks,,,
Any "Lost Boys" in your closets?

Would you believe a Marlin 60 over 45 years old I forgot I had. Cleaned up and being used regularly now and it is almost as accurate as my much more expensive match 10/22 with the bull barrel, match trigger and expensive scope. Oh my the money I could have saved. I keep getting asked how many guns I have and I would say I have to check the inventory. This one wasn't on it and my brother had to remind me it was mine. Kinda like Christmas in August. He happened to be there when I bought it, now he is convinced I am fast slipping into senility and i don't have a good counter argument.

Better to find a gun you forgot about than try to remember where you left one you KNOW you have. . .

That's my dad's problem :D I'm the new custodian of the family firearms, going back to the mid-1800s, except for two revolvers...which he can't find. He knows he's got 'em, but neither of us remember seeing them since the mid '80s. That's after a couple of moves in their summer house and at least one in their winter house.

They're just cheap old guns, they don't even have much sentimental value. But it's driving him absolutely batty that we both remember seeing them 20 some-odd years ago and now they're packed away someplace...safe. I'm sure they'll turn up someplace stupid.

This happened to a friend of mine,,,
He was sure the gun was stolen from his house,,,
He simply didn't remember "giving" it to his older brother.

The really bad part was that since it was registered to him,,,
He reported it to the cops as stolen.

Years later when his brother tried to sell it on consignment through a pawn shop,,,
That serial number showed up and the brother was promptly arrested.

The way he told it was that two lawyers got stinking rich,,,
Before the Felony charges were finally dismissed.

And, it was years before they got the gun back,,,
From the great state of California.

Had a Colt Officers ACP that is finished in nickel. Shot real nice until I had a kaboom with it. Got it fixed but it started giving me problems. I stuck it away in the back of the safe and considered it history.

Fast forward about 25 years and I since gained a lot of knowledge about the 1911. One crappy day, looking for something to do, I decided to organize my safe and "found" the Officers ACP. I took it apart, a complete detail stripping, which I didn't have the knowledge to do competently years before.

I cleaned it, finding lots of garbage in the firing pin and extractor housings. I then changed the recoil and firing pin springs and reassembled the gun. What could be more fitting than some motivation to go the indoor range? So off I went and viola, it was like finding a brand new gun. It performed like a champ and has been a constant companion on range trips ever since.

I have no luck at all,,,

I find a cheapo Saturday Night Special,,,
45Gunner finds a Colt!

Where's the fairness in that I ask you?

How many of you went to a gun show and bought a pistol and when you got home found you already had one. I now own two S&W M15 well nice guns anyway:D

Cheez, Russ, now you will need to get matching L-R holsters and a nice belt and wear one on each hip. If you got open carry in your state that will really look impressive. Don't forget a big ol' nickel plated belt buckle with a gold plated steer head.

I was talking to my mom a couple months ago and out of the blue... she says "remember that gun I used to have... I wonder what ever happened to it?" (something like that anyways)

The last she remembered that gun was late 1978. We moved right about then to very early 1979.

I'm alllllllmost 41 now.

She was happy when I said that had found the gun in the garage about 25yrs ago (mid 80's) and threw it in a camping box that me and my older brother made.

Its an RG 22lr with about 1.25" barrel. :(

Here's a pic of that Bad Boy!

Here's a pic of the pistola,,,
Truly the weapon of choice for a Bad @$$ gunslinger.

This is a truly Bad-@$$ fieryarm,,,
Shoots the massively powerful .22 short round,,,
Front sight removed so it slides out of the pocket easier.

I remember my brother-in-law telling me that removng the sight was a good thing,,,
That way when I pulled it on someone and they took it from me and shoved it up my @r$e,,,
It wouldn't hurt nearly so bad coming back out.

aarondhgraham,

Who said anything about fair? Yup, I was pretty happy with myself for doing what I did. Oh, am I rubbing it in? Pardon me while I yuk it up. Maybe I should rummage around in my safe more often?

Have a second safe which I finally opened last week and found a gold watch which I forgot I owned...no gun stuff tho.

Rub it in,,, Rub it in,,,

Okay 45Gunner,,,

I'm hiring a Gypsy woman to put a curse on your trigger finger,,,
From now on if it gets near a pistol (especially Colts),,,
It's gonna start itching like mad.

Somewhere I know I have a 45 rpm of the song "Saturday Night Special",,,
I think I'll disable the little .22 and mount it with the record in a nice shadow box.

First there is one thing I must do though,,,
I'm gonna have to clean it up and shoot it at least once,,,
Then if I still have a hand left I'll epoxy the innards and mount it.

Later,,,

+1

In my case it was a Swedish Nagant revolver made by Husqvarna converted to .22 lr. I always wanted one, and was thrilled to find it.

Except that, when I got home, I found that I had already bought one several years prior.:D

Sometimes I lay in bed at night when I can't sleep and actually count all my guns to myself. I think of each gun and what it looks like and the caliber and how many rounds I have for it and where exactly it is. That usually takes me a couple of hours. Then I quote scriptures and poems to myself and that takes me till morning.

Then, in the morning, I get up and check to make sure I was right about the guns and scriptures. :)

A friend of mine used to work for a gun shop nearby. He got caught up a few years back on "inventory" night :barf:, . . .

Somewhere in the "back there" area there was a S&W box, . . . all dusty and stuff, . . . under a pile of other "stuff".

He opens the box, . . . a brand new 6 in, blued steel, Model 29, .44 Mag. It had somehow survived over 20 annual inventories and had never been counted, found, seen, etc.

Rascal talked his boss into selling it to him at a 1975 price, . . . and won't sell it to me, . . . even though he needs the money.

May God bless,
Dwight

Being the proud owner of a S&W 629 I truly feel your pain,,,
Would it help if I told you mine was a gift to me?

This is turning into a fun thread good folks,,,
I really thought stories like this had to be rare events,,,
But I guess like with any other item we own, guns can be forgotten as well.

Those misplaced guns always seam to be in the last place you look...

Because if you keep looking after that you need more help than this site can offer.

Although with old age creeping up on some of us I guess it could happen.:)
