I finally crossed over to the dark side... (glock related)

Every time I decide to buy a glock I end up buying something I want instead.

That being said I sure hope the G40's are easily found by fall.

I avoided them for years. Just couldn't get past the looks. But every time I shot someones I hit better with it than with what I brought. I bought a gen 3 23. It has been my EDC ever since. Embrace the dark side

Let's see......should I bet my life on one totally reliable pistol or bet my life on two junk pistols???

Let me ponder that for a while......

Very ignorant statement. You obviously know nothing about them.

I was in the same boat (disinterested, didn't like ergonomics, thought they were ugly, etc.). But about a year ago made the switch to a G17. Fell in love with Glocks... love.
I've owned Smith (both autos/revolvers), Taurus, Ruger, Kahr (and shot most of the others like springfield, Kimber, Walther, through friends). Don't really feel the need to own anything but Glock anymore.
Variety is the spice of life. When it comes to guns, this applies to people that have disposable income. I'm not one of them.

Yeah, after years of pretty actively hating Glocks, I bought a Gen 4 G19 about 2 years ago. I had several other polymer 9mm pistols on my list, and after much research an consideration, that's what I wound up with. For months I continued to try to hate the darned thing, but it runs. It goes bang when it should, eats every kind of ammo I feed it, and is easy to maintain. I guess it's a good thing I like my guns scuffed, parkerized and a little on the ugly side, because that G19 has become my almost-constant companion.

The cookies really are good, aren't they? ;)

I've owned and shot a Glock 17 for years. I finally gave up on it because I was never all that accurate shooting it. I couldn't get used to the trigger and it didn't group well for me, and it took many shots before I could zero in on my target. It's not that I was all that bad with it, it's just that I was a little less accurate with my Glock 17 than I was with my S&W 659, which was disappointing. I would rank my pistols in terms of accuracy (for me) as follows:

Sig-X-Five
STI 2011 (custom)
Steyr GB
Colt Gold Cup (Series 80)
Tanfoglio Stock

Taurus PT99 (when I had it - accurate, but it broke)
S&W 659
Glock 17

Then my carry pistols.

I know, I know, I'm comparing a $400 gun with some that are way more expensive than the Glock. The Glock is perhaps my most durable and reliable gun - I'll give it that.

However, the Glock is perhaps my most durable and reliable gun.

I was considering a Glock 19 until I ran across a S&W SD9VE on sale. It is almost exactly the same size, weight and function of the 19 at a much better price. I bought it and had enough money left to buy a Taurus TCP 738 pocket pistol. My son-in-law is a die hard Glock 19 fanatic and you will probably be the same way.

While I cannot speak to the Taurus I can to the SD9VE. It appears to be of quality construction, the polymer frame doesn't seem as rigid as the Glock, but certainly adequate for a lifetime of use. The main thing I dislike about the SD9VE is the trigger, pretty much everything about it. Pull is too far, no indication of when the trigger will break, and in order to get the trigger to reset you have to let the trigger return all the way to the front of the well.

Granted you have to understand that almost always you get what you pay for. If you go up to the S&W M&P the trigger is significantly better, but the cost is significantly more. For the money the SD9VE is a very good gun and well worth consideration for someone on a tight budget. It is by no means "junk" as the other poster said.
