I feel a little better about leaving my gun in the car now.

I just realized today that the new car I bought last week actually has a locking glove box. I have been taking it out of the glovebox and putting it in the trunk whenever I was not in the car during the day. Now I feel a little more comfortable just leaving it in the glove box. :)

I have a locking glove box but I still put it in the trunk if I must leave it in the car. I figure if they already broke into the car, why wouldn't they bust open a locked glove box?

I feel pretty safe since I know the vast majority of car break ins during the day are smash and grabs. The glove box being locked will really help in such an event. I still take the gun in at night. :)

Console vault

Google "console vault".

These are basically sheet steel sides that use your center consoles internal screws to attach, that come with a lockable (key or combo) door on top. They hide under your stock center console cover.

This assumes you have a center console.

Won't help if somebody actually steals the vehicle, but for a basic window smash and grab, they work quite well.

Also, most cars have a trunk release in the cabin, so if a thief can break into your car, he can probably also break into the trunk.

I gotta agree. Locking glove box = way convenient, especially for those trips to the post office.

What happened to the Stack-On you had bolted to your truck?

Be careful what you keep in the glove box, I have had to have mine fixed twice now. I think the weight from the guns I keep in there have caused the tabs on the side that keep it from opening all the way up break off. The Subaru dealership keeps asking why it keeps breaking and opens all the way up, I just laugh and say it's probably a design flaw and they always fix it under warranty. Which I think it is a flaw since I have never had a problem with any other glovebox. I would keep an eye on it just the same, it's kind of annoying when you go to open the glovebox and it swings upside down and everything falls out. For what it's worth I usually just keep a 27 in there, which isn't that heavy.

What model did you get?

Cars with a trunk release has a override in the trunk that does not allow the release from inside. Also most cars today the back seats fold down and can be locked at the rear deck by key.The only way in the trunk is a key or cutting through the back seat or breaking the key lock tumbler thats not easy to do with a standard tool such as flat had screw driver or nearly impossiable with anything lighter then a pry bar.A glove box can be broke into very quickly with a heavy duty flat head.I keep my gun in the trunk even for quick in and outs.I keep a towel in the car just wrap it walk it to the trunk done.

What model did you get?
I had to make a bargain with my partner. We agreed to me purchasing the 4.0L V6 model under the conditions that if I could live with it for 6 months and not miss my truck too much to stay in a car I can trade it in on a new GT model.

I did manage to get the V6 loaded up with the upgraded suspension, interior, and exterior package so it is actually a pretty nice car. I almost do not want the V8...almost. :D

PS: They were really desperate for a sale that day so I also managed to get it for just over $18K when the sticker was just under $26K. :)

PPS: I am considering mounting a similar safe in the trunk.

That is like a 1911 chambered in 22lr
I would say more like a 1911 chambered in 9mm. :)

Not big enough for the size queens but more than enough for me (well almost...I never really speed so if they could just make the V6 rumble like the V8 I would probably be happy). :D

'Locking' glove box. You mean the thing that can be popped open with a mini-crowbar? Ask me how I know, having been the victim of two breakins.

I looked at a blue one with silver racing stripes just like that one. Was stickered at $46k I think. I could never justify 500hp in a car. I would end up wrapped around a telephone pole...but I was told if I could get it down to the $40k range I could get it. I think I just want to regular 2010 GT though. Much cheaper, better on gas, and insurance is cheaper. :)

PS: You can't get the Shelby's in automatic and I am too old for the stick shift these days...bum knee. :(

PPS: Could you imagine drilling into a Shelby to install a gunsafe??? I do not think so. :)
