I don't own a .44 Special handgun,,,

So I went to the S&W website,,,

I was going to look up a few model numbers,,,
It turns out that the only .44 special still made is the Model 24 Classic.

I really like the looks of those older .44 Hand Ejector models,,,
That big old frame with that delicate tapered barrel is so very elegant.

At least I have some model numbers to look for,,,
I'm going to a gun show this Saturday,,,
Maybe I'll get lucky and find a deal.

Had a stainless S&W 696, a Scandium 396 (currently owned by a forum member who has posted pics of it here) and a blued Taurus 441.

They were neat revolvers, but I never fell in love with the cartridge or the package. As a result I sold them all.

A 24 or a 624 might have done the trick, but I was seduced by N-frames in .45LC and .41 Mag. And there I remain. :)

I have enjoyed the family of ".44's". I am in my 60's now so the specials are what I shoot mostly. I started reloading over 30 years ago, (scary thinking about it), and shooting is more fun with mild loads. My Lew Horton would not allow speed loaders so I bought an extra pr of stocks and modified them.

My favorite was / is the 3" 624 so I gave it to my son. He said it shoots pretty good! :)

I had a .44spl Taurus (431) years ago which just never measured up and soured me on Taurus. I always meant to get another special but they always ended up being magnums for some reason. Well I finally bucked the trend and got another .44Spl, I picked up my new flat top Blackhawk yesterday so I'm back in the club. Looking forward to shooting it if I ever get a day off.

There was a Charter Arms Bulldog at the shop I got the Blackhawk at and I was tempted but thought I should play with the Blackhawk for a while first.

You'll like it. Haven't heard of one that isn't accurate right out of the box. I know mine is. Most accurate revolver I have right now!

The top gun in the picture is a Freedom Arms small frame M97 in .44 Spcl with a 5 1/2" bbl. The bottom gun is a FA M97 .45 Colt with a 3 1/2" bbl and a round butt. Both have to me handled to be appreciated.

The top gun is a 386 but I have it's brother (396 in .44 Spcl). It is a handful with any load approaching 1,000 fps. The bottom gun is the above pictured FA M97 .45 Colt.

Wish I could find a 3 1/2" N Frame .44 Spcl.

Aarond, buy something nice! Since I'm not working I have to vicariously through the checkbooks of others!:D

Hey mrbro,,,

I feel your pain my friend,,,
I'm 59 and single with a professional income,,,
It is only in the past 6 years that I have attained this status.

While I don't have a tremendous amount of disposable money,,,
It is nice to know that if I do see something that I like,,,
I no longer have to take anyone else into account.

I'll definitely have my list and my eyes wide open,,,
I'll probably not buy any guns there though,,,
I haven't seen a "deal" at a gun show,,,
At least not in recent years.

I go to see/handle guns I can never find anywhere else,,,
What I usually find/buy is accessory items,,,
And occasionally I will find a holster.

But what the heck,,,
Whatever I decide to buy,,,
I'll dedicate that purchase to you. ;)

Aarond

Nope, it's the opposite.

The .44 Magnum is longer than the .44 Special.

You can shoot .44 Special cartridges in a .44 Magnum handgun,,,
Not the other way around.

Here is my CA Bulldog Pug. It is by the original charter arms and shoots where I want. They are very nice little revolvers

"And these are a few of my favorite things......."

In addition to the ones below, a Colt SAA, USFA Rodeo and Sheriff, EMF SAA, Smith & Wesson 696 prelock, 24 5" custom cut, 28 4" Clements Custom conversion, 624 4", several older 3" Charter Arms, Ruger Blackhawk, Blackhawk .357 converted and probably a couple of others that don't come to mind right now.

I wish I could find a S&W for a reasonable price

I know what you mean. I'd love to have a 4" or shorter model 24 one day.

But in the mean time, I'm really enjoying my 3" Taurus 431, a good buy at $268.
