I did something really dumb today.

This is why I have a list of things to take, even tho I keep everything in the range bag, I have forgot ammo for at least one gun, have left targets at home, and the list goes on. The challenge now is to remember to look at the list before I leave the house. :D

I was 17 years old on my way to join my brother for a morning deer hunt. Halfway there I ran out of gas (fortunately in front of a friends house). Called my brother for a ride at 5:30. When he gets there he asked where the dog was (I was supposed to bring my dog for the deer drive), no dog, he was still asleep in his doghouse...

Our rifle section leader brought an Iver Johnson AMAC out to the range, intending to shoot it after our 100yd match. This was back in the early 90's so they were still relatively new, so everyone wanted a crack at it.He unloaded everything, and then turned red faced,he had forgot the bolt 35 miles away on his kitchen table.

Cable Lock

Forgetful Shooters:

Twice I've cut the cable lock off my 410 on squirrel hunting excursions.

Went elk / bear hunting, 6h from home (and 2h from the nearest cell phone tower). Brought the bear tag, not the bear license (didn't realize you were required to carry both). Last time I buy an all-in-one license for hunting and fishing (the license was in the tackle box); going to pay the extra $1 service charge and keep everything separate.

Anyone else ever go to the range and forget to bring something really, really important? Like at least 1 gun!

Once. Now I have a checklist I use when I load the truck. I only have to drive about 6 miles to get to the range, but I generally plan on spending 2-3 hours there. Altho it ain't that big of deal to go back and get something, it's still a hassle.

Forget anything?

Yup. Nearly every time. I'm getting better, I swear.

I'm hustling down the highway toward the range and ten minutes from home where the range bag still is. I retrieve that and get to the range and discover I have no ammo for one of the guns.

drove 45 miles, hike 1 mile into woods, & after emptying shotgun, my 16 gauge, I find I brought the wrong ammo 12 gauge, I had meant to take it, but changed mind kinda last minute.

also done similiar more than once by taking a pistol & bringing wrong box of spare ammo.

I always have what ever ammo is in the gun, as I never keep an unloaded weapon around the house. you know the saying about unloaded guns.... well I treat mine like they are loaded, because they are, always. been doing it most of my life, & I dont keep anything laying around, in the open, & no kids, & just me & wife. so it works for me.

Oh lordy yes.

Range gate key (private outdoor range, had to go back home)
Ammo I wanted to chrono (had to go back home)
Magazines for 10/22 (had to borrow a buddy's spare)
Chrono
Clays
Entire firearms

:o

I forgot my screwdriver once, thank god I didn't need it. But never a gun. well, if I did forget one gun, I still had others. As long as I never forget my 22lr, I'd stay and shoot anyway.
