I traded in my naa guardian 32 for this Colt....and I love this little critter...still small enuff (and thin!) and it fits my hand much better. I needed a small summer gun..I think I found it. NOW...anyone recommend a holster for it? or any other toys to put with it? I really like this little gun...AND it's a COLT:D :D :D

you got a keeper there! I have a blue govt .380 that at 30-40 ft shoots very tight groups (assuming I do my part). It'll be 1 of my summer carries too, enjoy !!!

What kind of pricing are you seeing for this weapon? The pawnshop up the road from work has an SS .380 that I really like, but they want $500 + tax. That seems a little high for me when you consider that you can get a nice .45 or 9mm compact for a few bucks more.

Is the .380 a good caliber for defense? I'm concerned about penetrating denim or leather jackets (which are worn even in the summer).

For a used GM .380, I would expect a price around $300. But, I could see the investment if the weapon was rare or easily modified/smithed.

Where's the pics?

I think $350-400 is a more realistic gunshop price for the Colt GM or Mustang, you won't find many for $300 in decent shape...

I think mustangs are going for more like $450+

At least they are here in Georgia.

It is probably overpriced for the gun, but they aint making them no more.

I bought a Mustang that looked like it had only been fired at the factory for 300$, so the deals are out there. You just need to keep money in your pocket for when a deal appears before you.

I think it takes more than a sample of one to make this a common occurrence! :) I've had guns handed to me for free, but it sure doesn't happen every day! :D

I found my stainless for $425. No box or papers...looked like only a box through it. The first time out....Whoa!..a FTE in every magazine...started to worry. Tried different ammo...same thing..seemed like the forth or fifth round did'nt eject...then it seemed like the last round wouldn't. SOOOoo...I pulled the slide back and put a few drops of oil directly on the rails and let it drip down the length of the rails. I fired 4 more mags.....no more problems.
Accuracy is very good...shoots alittle to the left..I'll adjust the rear sights the next time to the range.
I'm going to have to do something about the sights. Can't see the damn things...all black in the back...and dark silver in the front. I used some chalk on the front sight as a temp. fix the other day, but will probably get some paint at the hobby shop. Anyone have a suggestion as to what colors for front sight and what for the rear. Thanks

I'm a little surprised you didn't field strip the gun at a minimum before taking it to the range.

I never shoot a new or used gun without first stripping it, cleaning and lubing, and a function check with no ammo. For a well used or C&R gun, I normally detail strip them and check all the parts.

I recently got a Colt SS Mustang and a Beretta 21 Bobcat (22lr) in a combo deal for $500; you do the math.

The Mustang was very clean, but I broke it down anyway to check out the insides. I shot it and had jams on every mag full. It turned out I was pressing on the mag release while shooting without knowing it. I adjusted my grip for the small gun and it shot flawlessly after that. Accurate out to 10 yards.

Prices here for the Colt 380's are anywhere from $350-$500 with $400 and $450 being most common.

I've been watching for a good deal for a bit...

Missed out on a gm stainless for 415, sold in less than a few days a while back.

I'm waiting for exactly what I want. I've heard of a shop that has the mustang II blued for $370, but I've decided that I want a full weight (no pocketlite), stainless, full sized colt. Since it's just a want, not a need, I can wait for a bit. I do an occasional search on the usual sites. One day I'll hook up.

Anyone know if the rumors of colt starting production back up are true. A thread or awhile back mentioned it was possible.

I've wanted one of the GM Mustangs for a LONG time, but they're almost non-existent in Northern Virginia, and when they do show up, they're VERY expensive.

Mike Irwin, what is a GM Mustang?

They are either Mustangs OR Government Models, or so I thought. There are PocketLite versions of both models. Mustangs have a shorter barrel.

Is this something different?

Hi JohnWill,
I did break it down and do a complete cleaning before I went to the range..that's why I was so worried when I got the FTE's
The only thing I can imagine is it really hasn't been fired much and needed that "break-in rounds of mags run through it. I'm cleaning again today..and hope to get to the range again this weekend..I'll report back.

Still trying to find a nice leather belt holster that won't take 3 months to get after I order it. I hate that...I want to order it, pay for it, have it shipped within a day or two......NOT order it, pay for it...wait 2-3 months for delivery.
OH WELL

Good purchase!!

I have a PocketLite Government that's probably my prettiest gun. It was about $425 NIB in 1998.

It shoots pie-plate groups at 20 feet or so, OK for a smaller pistol.

Federal HydraShocks will give you 90 grains @ 1000 FPS and 200 FPE...well out of Band-Aid territory and close to .38 Special specs.

FWIW, they're selling green/white box .380 Russian ball ammo at the gun shows for $5.00/50...good for practice.

OK, if we're talking about how good they look, here's my Mustang Pocketlite that has the SM&A Pocket Carry Package. I also opted for better sights in addition to the PCP. :)

That's a nice looking gun there, johnwill.

The PCP is a beveled mag well??? bobbed hammer ??? some corners rounded off ??? some other stuff I forget.

The slide looks plum-colored on my poor overworked monitor. Is that a refelction from the backdrop?

I like that front sight.
