Guys if you want to keep a thread open don't take everything so personal. There isn't a thing that you or I can say that is going to shape any world event here on TFL.
Speak the truth and the truth will carry your point wheather anyone understands it or not.

Heres the challenge and if you have the testicles to take it on say so.

Keep the next thread going without insult, speak the truth without manipulation of facts. If you get the thread closed then you stay away from politics for a week. If you don't want this challenge in your thread then post it say"no challenge"

I agree, can we keep it up forever though? because I am gone for 3 weeks again on tue. :D

hey thats enough cheering. :p

Uhhhhh, 25 - one small problem: One man's fact is another man's insult. I've seen that plenty of times here.

If undisputable truth insults a poster then the one who is insulted shouldn't be here. Again the topic chosen by all should only have post you know to be facts. Opinions can be expressed but should be labeled as IMHO but should not be offensive enough to shut down the thread.

Guys there is never anything said on the internet that should be offensive if it is civil in content. Those who can't be civil will hide behind the net like a coward and should be ignored by all.

Pick a topic and argue your point with truth and make sure your useing an unbias source that can't be challenged as to the validity of the content.

Gee whiz 25... I just love to hate 'em so...

Does the hate keep you warm in UTAH:D :D Man that is a cold place:)

Nothing burns better than the truth, when you speak it it is like a fire.

Your choice of names is very interesting as it can be pronounced in different ways, do you have a preference? We will practice it while you are gone:D :D

25, the problem lies in the dividing line between fact and opinion. Even your suggestion of using 'unbiased' sources is unrealistic.

Thermometers are generally considered an unbiased source of temperature information. However the temperature reading from the old thermometer on my porch is not an unbiased fact.

(note to self: replace that worn out thermometer one of these days)

I am not sure how you divide facts from opinion. One is the factual truth and the other is is just thought up opinion.
Truth is that this day here right now is Sunday Nov 27 and that is an undisputable fact. Whether it is a beautiful day or not is opinion:D

If you want to pass on opinions of others as facts or truth you serve the truth a dis service and lie to others and yourself. So the challege becomes hard doesn't it:D :D

We must seek the truth to repeat it and therefor you must always hold your sources accountable to you before your character is challenged as a liar.

Gets to "who do you believe"

25, I'll try to simplify for you: one person's "fact" or "truth" may be viewed by another person as nothing better than opinion.

All right :D not to be condiscending and please don't take this wrong (ask me what I mean before jumping to conclusions)

The twin towers getting hit on 911 are an undisputible fact. Evidence afterward pointed to Al-Qeada and Osama himself took credit for it so that can be credited as fact. Any other theory on this is just opinion and should be seen as such until facts prove otherwise.

The truth never belongs to one person because when you speak it it has been shared with all. A lie however is on your shoulders as you are the one to spread it.:)

 You and I may think so, but I recently saw where some nutcase claimed they were never there in the first place and 9/11 was faked to explain away their absence. Heck, for millenia it was a fact beyond dispute that the world was flat.

Actually, the common belief that the world was flat was only an opinion. The truth was that the world is a sphere that rotates on it's own axis and circles the sun even though the common belief was otherwise.

25, it's only hard if you forget that the ONLY person you can believe to tell you the truth is yourself. And people lie to themselves all the time for various reasons.

What I find difficult is when people want to sugarcoat the truth. As if the words used to describe the truth are "better" if they are slanted in some fashion.

And if you have to "slant" the truth to make it palatable, then does it remain the truth or is it only your version of the truth?

Truth is. It just is. Anything else is opinion.

Truth, fact, opinion ... I knew I should read more philosophy.

Anyway, +1 on civility. I think that most people here abide by this anyway, but a reminder doesn't hurt every now and then.

If you want nothing but undeniable facts sit in your room every night reading encyclopedias.

If you want to have conversations with real people and grow as a person learn to accept opinion

The flat world theory was accepted fact until someone had the opinion that it might be round

You can't grow on a lie even though people call it BS (a good fertilizer:D ) Opinion isn't always a lie but we have to look at the giver to see how the opinion was formed. You take a dead to the world Democrat or Republican and all he does is the party line. What you learn is the party line.

Accepting their political opinion is valid but all you have learned is what the parties want their people to think. Any growth from that will be minimal at best. However a informed opinion with alot of experience behind it is something you will get ahead on. (Stock market winners, business people ect)

"Slant" or direction the opinion is steered to get you to think has to be looked at. Someone gives you a story and you must check out the story givers credentials. Who funds the opinion? Why is this story brought out at this time (Swift Boat-Texas Air national guard) Who started the story.

To repeat a lie ,and it is shown to be so, damages you for the rest of your life. Look at some of the greats that got caught lieing, do you ever believe them again. True growth only comes from the truth. Opinions without facts to back them up are just theory and not provable so the best you can call unsubstantial opinion is just gossip.

Well how true:D but if I want fairytales I go to the fiction row and get the same as some peoples opinion:)

I do love an educated oinion though. I have a great friend who is on his second tour in Iraq. His ability to capture the peoples feelings along with what is happening is far beyond the media and his word is as good as gold.
