Rant on
I can't handle it, I lost my mind with that Florida thing,(an earlier post where I lost my mind thinking Bush has won) and now I watch the news, throw things at my T.V. and find myself unable to talk about this with any Gore voters for fear of blowing a mian fuse and degenerating into a screaming rampaging idiot.

I heard some girl being interviewed on the radio, and they asked what she thought of the electoral college. She says "it's stupid" Why is this on the radio, thank you for your inciteful analysis, I really appreciate it, and what other parts of the "stupid" constitution would you like us to change.

and this Daley clown, do you enjoy causing this crises, do you really think what you are doing is a good idea, do you really think what you are doing is for the good of the country, how do you look at yourself in the mirror. Get a copy of the constitution and read it.

And Hillary, it starts, you people in New York suck (The very few gun owners and Republicans excluded) "Lets do away with the electoral college" she says. Great should we start with the coronation of Queen Hillary forthwith. I get the feeling Hillary is going to make D. Frankenstein look like Ronald Reagan......no sorry Ron.....AHHHHHHHH....I can't stand it......(deep breath)

And Wexler, I though I disliked you in the impeachment thing, but now you have forced me to explore new levels of distaste for a fellow human being, I don't think I can detest a human being more then you.......what do you know I'm wrong.........

Gore and Jackson.........Words fail me.....I can only lapse into profanity which I won't do.

I am angry, I mean really angry,I can't describe how I am feeling. If Gore wins this election, well I don't know what to do, I can't keep this bottled up for 4 years. and remember I am a political science major, so I will hear all the leftist professors tell my fellow morons.....errrrr students that this is okay.

The only thing that comforts me is if Gore wins this travesty, then 2002, is going to make 1994 look like a walk in the park.

no matter what, the victory for Bush is screwed, Gore is like a little kid who is going to spoil it for everyone if he doesn't get his way. I thought the Impeachment debacle was the pinnacle of democrat corruption, again I was wrong. If Gore gets away with this, he is going to think he is untouchable, and that scares me.

I can't go on, I know I lack the elequonce of some of our finer writers on this board, but I needed to get this out.

Rant off

I would like to hear some other rants, lets have a rant thread, I think it is needed, I needed it.

Better left unsaid. I'd like to not go to jail yet.

My points exactly!

I guarantee you that if Gore got the EC vote she would proclaim that "the system works"

She even stated "We live in a democracy"

I nearly puked! I yelled at the TV. You @#%^@#$ It is a constitutional republic!!!!!!!

I am going to cheat on my tax forms next year, and I am prepared to claim that they were too confusing!

TRAVELER'S ADVISORY - PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL- Motorists beware - over 19,000 residents unable to follow the arrows.

These things too, shall pass, y'all.

My personal rant before the election was that we've had no popular support for a Constitutional ammendment to abolish the E.C. I still want it gone, but THIS year, those were the rules of the game. Bush played by the rules. So be it; the man is to be elected. But now, I hear people wanting to abolish the E.C. retroactively?!?!?? Do it in time for THE NEXT ELECTION.

Long Path: "My personal rant before the election was that we've had no popular support for a Constitutional ammendment to abolish the E.C."

And thus we would increase the relative power of the highly populous and highly anti-gun regions like New York City, New England and greater Los Angeles and Chicago.

And thus we would decrease the power of the rest of the nation.

That USA Today county-by-county map has reinforced my support of the E.C.

Darn straight talk there discord...

What happens in a popular vote if say Madonna, or Rosie O'Donnel (bleeck), or a WWF wrestler get on the ballot. Do you really think one of them wouldn't win.

The Presidency isn't a popularity contest.

Re the EC. In New York many upstate voters who are conservative and Republican do not bother to vote. Why, because the huge liberal bloc of voters in NY city will blow out the possibility of a Republican winning the state.

In this case the EC is actually a detriment to an accurate vote count.

Look at the voter maps published on the web, look at NY State as a whole. Most of the counties vote Republican.

Voter turnout in NY State Republican counties was below 50%. In NYC it was over 75%. NYC has 2.8 Million more registered democrats than republicans. No incentive for republicans to get out and vote. An election by popular vote may change that.

However, we need a foolproof method of insuring "One citizen, one Vote" or the Dems will stuff ballot boxes like they do now.

coming to you from occupied territory :(

Geoff...

I live in Dutchess County and can empathize. However, I can't agree with the statement that upstate republicans and conservatives don't vote because they will be out voted. While in practice this may be true, it's a piss poor excuse for citizenship for any of these folks to then whine because "we get outvoted by the city." How about getting off their lazy arses and making it a 100% upstate republican/conservative turnout and stop making these elections look like mandates for socialism.

D'Amato was elected numerous times so republicans weren't always "blown out" by NYC libs. But now we have Chuck and her highness who over the last few years have garnered more than their share of upstate votes in addition to their NYC base. So we can bleat all we want about NYC's influence, but let those who whine about this and then fail to show up keep their mouths tightly zipped.

Geoff and Chris, a way for voters in certain areas like upstate NY that are perhaps being overwhelmed by voters in different regions of their state gain a more equal footing is twofold... first vote!... second, assign the electoral votes based on the popular vote. So instead of NY sending all of its electorals to Gore, you'd see a split, a percentage going to Gwhore and a precentage going to Bush. Maine and I believe Nebraska have this system in place already. This would allow for a more realistic representation while leaving the Electoral College intact. Most Constitutional scholars agree the EC provides positive benefits to the election process and the shortcomings under the usual conditions are few. Instead of thinking of making changes to the Constitution which will never occur due to the ratification process, the change, if one is necessary should occur on the state level in the assignment of its electors.

If nothing else, this will get _some_ of the conservative-thinking people to be more involved in future elections. Of course, it will likely energize those folks we don't agree with as well.

I can't stand it either. So, I'm off to watch Margaret Carlson on "Capital Gang." With a .45. And I can't afford a new TV so, Margaret, keep your mouth shut.

Nothing makes me as mad as those who say there is no reason to vote because someone elses will cancel it out. Who ever came up with this is either a complete idiot or too lazy to get off their dead @-- and vote. Maybe it was origionally coined by the democrats to keep the opposition home. Apairantly they bought it with a fifty percent voter turnout. What we can only look foreward to is a Bush victory and giving these assanine people like William Daley, Rev. Jesse. and Floridas illustrious representative Wexler a lesson in proper govt. and how to conduct themselves.

The EC will not be abolished. A Constitutional Amendment takes 3/4 of the states to ratify. Who here thinks 38 of the smaller states will ratify their pull in elections out of existance?

<vent open>

But, we are losing the election. The Republicans -- true to form -- are repeating their performance from the impeachment of Clinton. Their being first to file suit -- yes, to stop the outrageous manual counting of only those counties that are pro-Gore -- is a bad move. Now, the Republicans are once again evil, and the Dems are just poor victims. We don't learn, do we?

Two nights ago I was convinced that Bush would be president. Now I think Gore will steal the presidency, and we will again be left by the side of the highway, bleeding from every opening, and wondering what truck hit us.

WHY ARE REPUBLICANS SO DAMN STUPID AND INCOMPETENT IN A FIGHT???

<end venting>

Oh, and by the way...

The 39% of gun owners who voted for Gore or stayed home -- about 32,000,000 voters ...
thanks SO much.

Nice observation about Bush. I never was and I am not now a Bush fan. He makes me want to vomit when I hear him talking on TV. If he does that, imagine how Gore makes me feel. Who's responsible for putting these two jerks on the ballot?

Hoka-hey

I know as well as anyone what it is like to be in the political minority.....I am registered as "Unenrolled" here in MA due to the fact that basically some of the so called Republicans that run here are more Liberal than the Dems!!!

I knew that Bush had 2 chances of winning Massachusetts, slim and none and none just left town ....however that would never ever cause me to sit home and go "Aww my vote is just a waste in a losing cause" Being in the Air Force Reserve Ive had the opportunity to visit many, many places where voting is just a dream.....Never ever, ever would I sit on my ass....I cast my vote for Bush proudly and let whoever wanted to know, know.

I'm livid on what is going on in FL..absolutely livid.......I know this echoes what has already been said but I think that Gores people are just going to keep demanding recounts until the outcome comes his way.....

How the hell can people be impartial when handcounting the ballots??? How can we leave the fate of the nation up to some person going..."Hmmm I think that should be a vote for Gore but I'm not sure..ummm...okay what the hell I like Al...ka-ching"

Arrrghhh.......words can not express my feelings.....is it me or does all this circus atmosphere eeerily remind me of the OJ trial...?

Sigh.....

Grapeshad,
We had the same situation here in Jersey. I knew going in that the Dems would win by a landslide, BUT I, my wife, and my brother where waiting at the door when the polling place opened at 7 AM. We voted for freedom. Just like you, we got off of our butts, and did our share. Any lover of freedom, that did not vote, does not deserve to share in the freedom they helped to throw away.

Right now I feel like ranting, screaming, yelling and cursing, but I'm just too burned out.

Gentlemen, its time to fall back on Plan B.

Repeal Women's Suffrage.

If that pig don't fly, try Plan C.

Buy lots of guns. Sire lots of kids.

No, I am not kidding. From here out, its Plan C, if SO willing and able.
