I Can't Find Ammunition At Illinois Walmarts

I sure miss the days of walking in and buying Q3131 in 223 for shooting at my local range at $7.99 a box for 40 rds, them days are gone. Her in SW MI you cant hardly find anything on their shelves for the last 2 yrs or so. Lets face it, wally world wants nothing to do with guns and ammo these days, why? who knows., something going on in this region for sure. I have seen nothing but cheap black powder guns in the store these days, sure aint no Vanguards or Remingtons in there anymore. I hope its better in the south and west?

I checked my local WM a few days ago, and was surprised to see more ammo on the shelves than there has been in at least a year.
There was an attentive, semi-knowledgeable staff member ready to sell me whatever I wanted.
He seemed almost disappointed when I told him, "No, I'm just looking. I reload for everything except .22LR, and I have a fair bit of that."

I think the OP stated he couldn't find ammo or guns. I took that to mean they did not sell either, not that they were out of stock.
I have noticed that a lot of the Wally Worlds in the more urban areas have eliminated gun and ammo sales entirely. I would expect that in the Capital of the Peoples Republic of Illinois that would be no exception.

(I Don't need a civics lesson, I know the Illinois capitol is Springfield, but do they really run the state?:(

Chettt

Are they out of ammo or have they stopped selling it and have the cabinets holding other items?

I was thinking the same thing.

yeah, I'm suprised I can buy ammo in NW Las Vegas, MidwayUSA wouldn't even sell 9mm +Ps, but they'de be happy to sell .357mags, 44mags, or 500mags. They must think I have a Glock:D

I'm downstate in the People's Republic of Chicago (aka Illinois). Our Walmarts are clean too... not cause they don't carry, but because when it shows up, everyone grabs it.

My local store seams to stock up late on Fridays. I sneak over there around 7:00am on Sat and usually can grab a box or two. They had Federal 9s for $9.50 last weekend.

That's 9.97:D

No wonder! that's almost next to Chicago Y'all!:D

Don't feel like your alone, my local Walmarts don't have new shipments of 9mm, 40S&W and 45acp that last the day in most instances. I did find one Walmart that for some reason always has 180gr ball 40S&W federal or Speer in stock.

I'm in the NW burbs and ammo has been in short supply. Funny, because about 2 years ago about 6 months before the election I was buying everything I could find and NEVER had a problem finding ammo at Walmart...the issue was I was spending all my money!

I still look to see what's there and usually the shelves are bare. I don't know if it's snapped up quickly or they just aren't stocking it like they used to. I bought all the 22/9mm/45 ACP I could get my hands on.

Haven't been to Walmart in a while (since I began reloading this year), but have been to Cabelas and Gander Mtn. and they seem to have every type of ammo, albeit at higher prices than Walmart (I live just to the north of Chicago in Milwaukee). So it seems ammo in general is out there, just not at Wally World for some reason.

aroundchicago, I’m about an hour west-southwest of you and the WalMart’s around here have plenty of ammo. They no longer sell firearms, but do have ammo. I asked about the firearms sales a couple years ago when they stopped it and they said it was not pressure from the government, but lack of sales. If you’re ever in the Lee, Bureau, or LaSalle County area, stop in a WalMart and stock up on ammo. Also you could try any of the Blain’s Farm & Fleet stores here.

Cheapshooter, make no mistake about it, Chicago runs Illinois. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If it wasn't for Chicago, Illinois would be a great state, WITH concealed carry. But since King Richard Daley Mayor of Chicago calls the shots (pun intended) this state sucks.

Rhode Island

Every Walmart in RI carries ammo, except in providence. There are no local gun laws in RI.What we do have is a corrupt little anti-gun mayor.Since he took office 7 years ago the last gun shop in the city closed down and not another has opened.Chance? He uses licensing laws to violate rights.Thankfully he is running for Congress and will have his clock cleaned:D.
I believe Walmart knuckled under to get the business license.:barf:

Our nearest Wal Mart limits purchases to 6 boxes a day. The guy behind the counter said gun shop owners were buying shopping carts full to re-sell at their shops. This was at the height of the "shortage".

I never had problems with the Walmart in Bloomington, IL; it was always fully stocked with guns AND ammo.

It's been a few years though; not sure how it is now. McLean county is heavy hunting and shooting culture, doubt much has changed.

Ok guys let's cool it a little, I live in Illinois also and yes Mayor Daily sucks, and yes most of the House of Reps are from Chicago (based on population) and yes the State is not gun friendly on carry or use.

But I think the truth lies on different reasons, when Sam died the whole corporate culture of Wal-Mart changed. It is not just shooting equipment and supplies that are drying up, but camping gear, fishing gear, hunting and tools are just about out the door. There is more money to be made in clothing, shoes, appliances, drugs and things that women buy more that what men want. They are not marketing toward us, look at their TV ads. If your wife or girl friend wants something, who are they going to drag to the store, you or your wallet. That's a trick question, it's your wallet, so why should they put out all that money on inventory for what you want.

For all the rest of us we need to go to, Bass Pro, Cabelas, Dicks, Gander Mt. (would not be caught dead in the Geneva store, it really sucks), Farm & Fleet, GATS, or the hundred of other little gun shops through out the state. And there is always the internet to fall back on (Midway USA, Nachezs, CDNN, Cabelas, Midsouth Shooters Supplies, Sportsmens Guide, etc...) who do carry what we want, maybe not at the price we would like to pay.

As far as purchasing guns in Illinois, it really isn't all that bad (yet) compared to MI, MN, CA, Iowa, HI, NY, MA and NJ but not as good as AL, GA and maybe TX.

So count your blessing and pass the ammunition or start reloading.

I'm glad my local walmarts still carry guns and ammo, but I can see that changing in the next few years. Ammo is just about the only reason I go there.
There's also an academy opening up near me and I can't wait.

Last night my NW Vegas WM had about 20 box's of Fed. 550 22lr.

I softly held, "I feel like I won the lottery".

Some boat buying (stuff) customer rolled his eye as if I was an idiot, but we know how hard it can be just to get 22lr.

Well, I only bought 3 box's at $18.97, and I'm broke:confused:

But hey, I needed them like a crack whore.:D

PS: my Beretta Babcat love's them.

Same thing out here in California. Every time I go to Wal Mart I look for the cheap 9mm target rounds, but they never have them. They sell out within hours. Not all the Wal Marts here even sell ammo at all, so I have to go to a particular one to even shop for ammo at all, and NONE of them carry ANY type of firearm (only BB guns).
