I bought my first gun

DLL,

Good choice. I suggest you get a nice holster for it and always carry it in the holster. Remind me if it is for concealed carry?

I didn't buy it for concealed carry. Primarily I bought it because I like guns/I like to shoot. The secondary purpose is home defense. It's very difficult to get a CCW license here (pretty much impossible I've been told). The place where I work is in a bad part of town and I've had to work late a few times and I was the only one there. That's the only time outside of my home that I'd like to be armed. I don't think I need a CCW license to be armed at my place of employment. Of course I'd make sure before taking my gun to work. ;)

My friend, you now have one of the best all around 9mm pistols. My 19 is my favorite gun, feels good in the hand, shoots well and is extremely easy to take down and clean. Enjoy.

After a slight delay in getting the DROS turned in, I'm scheduled to get my gun this Friday. I've gotten past the stage of being extremely excited. I'll get really excited again when I actually have it in my grubby little paws. :D

Thanks to everyone for all the help and advice. You guys rock.

He he, one more question. What's with these "10" round magazines. As far as I can tell they're 9 round magazines. I bought an extra mag for my Glock and I couldn't get 10 rounds in the thing. I figured it was just new and needed breaking in, but then I rented a G19 at the range and could only get 9 rounds in it. It was quite used. And don't tell me I'm just a pansy and wasn't pushing that last round hard enough... unless, of course, that's what's wrong. :p

Edit: spelling

Um, I was just being a pansy. :D

My buddy took the tenth round and just shoved it in the mag. After I saw him do it I easily did it myself. Don't I feel special.

Hey freebyrd,
I bought my gun from Mike's Guns in Madera. Mike is a friend of a friend and he hooked me up with a great deal. I've been shooting at The Range and few times, and also this outdoor range that's in the foothills (I don't remember the name). My aunt & uncle have some property up in Auberry and I drive up there to shoot sometimes. I'll have to check out the Fresno Rifle & Pistol Club. Yeah, we can go shoot sometime. I'll have to send you a PM.

Don't I know. I haven't even taken my first gun home and I'm already thinking about buying another. I'm thinking ammo is going to be the biggest money pit. You can't have my Glock. Go "save" someone else. :D

Thanks coonan357.

Well, in that case, check out the CZ- it is one nice gun. I just got mine last Thurs and I've now shot 650 rounds out of it. No problems (as I expected based on their great reputation), they are made to be military pistols so they are very strong, very accurate for a service pistol, decent fit and finish and the best part is the price (around the price of a Ruger, which is also a good gun but not a CZ). Today at the indoor range was the only time I had a range employee compliment me on my gun (and they don't even sell CZs there).

Every shooter needs a nice .22 rifle and pistol or revolver. You're also going to have to start looking into a nice centerfire revolver (preferably a .357 mag or a .38 spl).

OK, had to put in my plug.

In just over one year of shooting, which also included 3 months of unemployment (so that kind of limited my gun buying), I have bought 3 .22 rifles, 2 centerfire rifles, 1 shotgun, 2 revolvers, 1 blackpowder revolver and 3 auto pistols. If you aren't careful this can be a VERY addictive hobby. You've been warned.:D

I got my Glock!

I picked up my Glock tonight and immediately headed to the range. I only got 80 rounds through it when the range closed, but man I had a blast. The gun shoots great. I'll be heading up to my aunt's property tomorrow with a buddy and I'll get to break it in some more. :)

You have made a wise choice. The 19 is one of the most popular Glocks. Mine is accurate, reliable and very easy to take down for cleaning. Now that you have one, there will be more to follow.

Nice piece! Unsolicited advice? OK! :) Take an NRA Basic Pistol class, then the Personal Protection in the Home course after that. There's more to owning guns than owning guns. All your legal questions will be answered in the Personal Protection class by a local lawyer familiar with deadly force law in your area. Plus you'll learn some mildly advanced defensive shooting basics.

And prepare to be broke!

That's great man! Congrats.

I just bought my first pistol, a Ruger P89DC, Friday of last week. Apart from the static from my girlfriend/roommate (who is apparently a gun-hater) I feel very satisfied with my purchase.

I guess we're lucky here in Texas... I got it that day in the store. I just had to wait for them call the FBI and verify that I hadn't shot a man in Reno recently.

What country do you people live in?

10 day waiting period? Only 1 gun in 30 days? Locked in the trunk? Huh???

Here in NH you have to pass the rigorous Instant Background Check. Done. "Thanks for your patronage. Enjoy your fine weapon and please come again". Carry all you want, open. 1-2 week wait for concealed carry permit. $10 for 4 years...

Vermont is even better. No guns laws. None. No CCW permit - conceal all you want. What we need is for every state to honor other state's CCW permits. Especially those commies in MA, CT and NY :)

But anyway, back on topic, DLL, congrats dude! You'll come to regret your decision... after about your hundredth gun purchase!
