I bought my first gun

I went and bought a Glock 19 last night. :)

Now I have to wait 10 days until I can have it. :(

This is worse then when I was eight waiting for Christmas to come. :D

I'll bet there are plenty of scared sheep out there in Cali who would be relieved to know that you have to wait those ten days to cool off so you won't be tempted to come shoot them.:rolleyes:

I feel for you. Here in SC we don't have that, but we have to put up with the "one handgun in 30 days" crap. Doesn't make too much practical difference to me though, since I can barely afford one a year at this point.

BTW, congratulations on your purchase and have fun.:)

Thanks!

I'm really excited. I don't know why exactly. I have a few friends that I go shooting with and I always use their guns, and I can even rent a gun at the range I go to. But owning your own is just different. My friend asked if I wanted to go to the range this Saturday and my first thought was "I don't want to shoot your stinking guns, I want to wait and shoot MINE." :p

Congratulations!

...uhm, ya know what not to forget, right?

The trunk of your car is considered to be a locked container. You just have to keep the ammo somewhere besides the trunk if you do it that way.

Okay, I feel stupid for having to ask, but I want to make sure. I'm checking out ammo on Winchester's website. My Glock uses 9x19mm. Is that 9mm Luger? It has to be, but why do they call it 9mm Luger?

Yep same thing. You may also see it referred to as 9mm Parabellum or 9mm para. Might also see 9mm NATO on occasion, it's supposedly loaded a tad hotter than most US 9mm loads, but is just fine for your Glock.

Great choice on the 19, I'm not sure there is a better pistol out there. If you ever visit a gunshow in another state you might just remember having bought a few hi-caps that have been laying around in your closet for years;)

You may also see the ammo referred to as 9X19.

9X17=.380acp=9mm"Kurz"
9X18=9mm Makarov
9X19="9mm"=9mm Luger=9mm Parabellum=9mm NATO

In this nomenclature, 9mm is the bore diameter and 17-18-19 are the case length in mm.

DLL,

Now see you screwed up. You should have bought a .22 LR as your first gun. But that is OK...you can still get one. I recommend that everybody keep a .22 LR pistol in their range bag along with a brick (500 rounds) of ammo. Go shoot your centerfire pistol 50 - 100 times and then if you still feel like shooting, whip out the ole .22. Much cheaper and great training aid. I have a S&W 2206 and a Ruger MKII that I have lost count of how many rounds I have fired through them. 500 rounds of .22 for the same cost as 50 rounds of 9mm...you do the math.

But I really do not enjoy shooting .22's all that much. I'm not saying they're not fun. I just have much more fun shooting larger calibers. I guess I like the recoil.

Have your cake and eat it

BTW, there is a very good kit that converts a Glock 19 to fire 22lr:

No muss, no fuss, no FFLs. :)

I have one on order from topglock.

P.S. I felt the same way you did at one time, but now it seems like I'm just a lot more accurate with .22 than I am with larger stuff. Accuracy is fun. ;)

Nope, converting it back to 9 is redundant.

Advantage claims you can swap between 9mm and .22 in ten seconds.

Do it with .223 too, lengthen the barrel, and you'd have a trifle. :D
