I bought a brand new Marlin 60 yesterday! :)

Sorry to hop on your question with another question...but does anyone happen to know the size of the takedown screws on the 60?

As a fairly new shooter, I currently borrow tools from a friend and don't want to borrow more than I need (I don't own a caliper to measure, either)...so it helps to know sizes (Marlin customer service was no help at all with this question - tried on the phone, rep didn't know --- sent 2 letters to them with a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope enclosed, no response...I like their rifles, but hate their service). I guess I should buy a cheap set of screwdrivers, but (with my luck) would probably be minus the size(s) I need.

I also just bought a Marlin 60; added a Simmons 4x32 scope. Just barely broke the $200 barrier.
It's the first rifle ever for my wife & I: we wanted something relatively inexpensive and fun for right now. If'n we like it, then perhaps in the future something better. We'd read a number of very positive reviews of the Marlin 60, so went with it. (The Ruger 10/22 was OK, but more expensive.)
We've already learned to avoid the Remington ammo: have never had good experiences with it. I'm a little concerned about the excessive cleaning mentioned on this thread, not being particularly mechanically ept. 'Twill be another experience.

Yoss- I cant believe Marlin wouldnt know,Id try to get someone else on the phone than who you talked to over there.

jkgruet-I dont think all that cleaning is neccesary, maybe after 10k-15k rounds.A good gun cleaning kit and some super tech lubricant or 3 n 1 in the chamber will work IMO

Excellent purchase

Echo the Hoppes/no oil.
Echo putting as much scope as you can on it.
Echo the CCI mini mags.

Got mine in about '82, used to shoot 50/day through it, to this day it's the most accurate 22 I've owned. As everyone else has mentioned, keep it clean, find ammo it likes and a scope you like, it'll be an investment you won't regret.

God Bless.

Yossarian, just get the $5 walmart/Harbor Freight Tools gunsmith screwdriver set...the bits fit ;)

Or, if you are moderately A-R like a lot of gun owners...switch out the screws for hex-head screws & star washers so they never get loose again.

And if you are REALLY A-R, do that, then use Blue Loctite to hold 'em in place until you want 'em out ;)
