i am tired of being victimized.

You need to calm down and get rid of the gas. What happens if they figure it out and put it in YOUR car?

You'd be surprised how far a $100 reward down at the local precinct will go in stopping the problem. I also like the deer cam idea but disable the flash or they'll steal it too.

Interesting how basketball goals seem to attract the riffraff. I've noticed that since the mid 60's. Had a preacher once who lived next door who had a druggie kid. Kid was on home restriction for over a year so he used to smoke dope up in their attic then spend 4 hours a night bouncing that ball on the driveway and shooting hoops.

"What happens if they figure it out and put it in YOUR car?"

Aren't most of us already paranoid enough about stuff like this that we already bought a locking gas cap? :D

Seriously, though. Not a bad investment. I bought one for my car to keep neighborhood kids from costing me a lot of money because of a stupid prank. Just another key on the key ring. It costs less than $5 and takes less than 3 seconds to unlock at the gas station. I highly recommend it, regardless of where you live.

As far as the gas goes, bleach is probably the best "additive". Even if they have a plastic can and plastic lines on their yard equipment, the stuff will still be run through the engine and come in contact with the pistons, cylinder walls, valves, carburetor, etc. End result? Massive internal rusting.

Also, save up for the shed door and lock. It would dramatically reduce the chances of things getting stolen from the shed. An open shed is like an idling car with the door open and no one around the vehicle. It just tempts those who are looking to steal.

1) Gas can likely wont' be stolen
2) If gas is stolen, it's to be used in their stolen mower chopshop sceme and will only injure innocent people who are buying these lawmowers, if the sugar/gas even does anything
3) BGs are going to notice all the sugar, rocks, fingernail clippings, and leaves you've tainted the gas with and probably light it and throw it through your bedroom window or extract other vindictive revenge.

Set an attractive trap and wait with camera and gun. Not advocating shooting them, but just for protection. Take a picture and call the police.

Or, if you cannot wait, I like the motion sensor camera idea.

The sugar won't do anything. Adding diesel WILL do something. Diesel detonates when used in a gas engine and WILL destroy the rings in a short while. If you keep running the engine, the diesel will take out the valves and pistons. If it does ruin the pistons you have a good chance it'll cause a seized engine and if running at speed, it could cause a thrown rod out the block.

A little gasoline in a diesel engine won't do any harm at all so the "gas" is still useable.

+1 diesel

One of the foremen at my father's business filled his car at the business' diesel pump; he got about three miles down the road before his car stopped running.

Hmmm... combining the best ideas, I think diesel + bleach would be the way to go. But you're going to want a bigger gas can to make it more attractive. Five gallons ought to do the trick.

Hmm....the diesel information seems contradictive to my past experiences. I had a beater 1981 Chevette I used to bomb back and forth to work in the winter. Grabbed the wrong can one winter when I couldnt make it to the station and put 1/4 tank of diesel in the car (another 1/2 was gas). The car started just fine but required "feathering" the throttle to keep running until it warmed up. Then it ran just fine. I drove the car until the gauge read empty then put gas back into it - that car still runs today........

Ref the question at hand - Im pretty handy with electricity so I would most likely rig up a circuit to fire off a very loud horn or something when the shed doors were opened........or simply wait inside the shed with a riot keg of pepper spray he he he......do you live close to Iowa, I would volunteer to wait if you supply the OC.

9mmsnoopy, you come across as a cranky old man with too much time available who wants to go to war with children. If you're unable or unwilling to secure your property against 10 year olds, you should just quietly accept you're impotence and quit whining.

I doubt sugar or sand would do much other than clog the fuel filter.

Diesel wont harm anything, but pure diesel may make some cars next to 100% impossible to start unless someone knew how to do it. Gas mixed with diesel should not cause any problems except maybe a poor idle or hard starting in the winter.

The only real trouble with diesel fuel in low compression spark fired motors is getting the fuel to vaporize so it can ignite.

Lathing compound would work well at shredding the internals of the fuel pump and engine.

Water could only cause an engine to stall and at best require the fuel tank to be drained.

AvGas such as 100LL contains low amounts of lead and is about 96 octane (Ron/Mon) IIRC. Jet fuel is just like diesel fuel but with better quality control, a lower gel point, and a bit lower energy per pound than diesel due to the chemicals that lower the gel point. Both Avgas and jet fuel are very easy to get at airports.

I think a bottle of aspirin (disolved of course) and some salt will do a much better job. :D Good luck taking care of the problem.

The salt if levels are high enough will do a lot of damage. I forgot what the apsiriin did but It does serve a purpose.

Our first week in Tampa we had our mower stolen, mailbox bashed etc.... They punks had the nerve to even steal the oil!

"Diesel wont harm anything, but pure diesel may make some cars next to 100% impossible to start unless someone knew how to do it. Gas mixed with diesel should not cause any problems except maybe a poor idle or hard starting in the winter. "

Agreed. Diesel in gas would cause poor idle and if the ratio were high enough, would cause the car to simply die. You'd have massive carbon build up on the plugs and the thing would smoke more than you can believe when running, almost to make one think they badly need a new set of head gaskets.

From what I understand, Jet Fuel and Kerosene are basically the same thing.

What kind of parents raised these kids anyways, to just go on others property and steal what they like?

Sigh...

There is more to responsible firearms ownership - than firearms-Me

1. This forum is read by a LOT of folks all over the world, some are Pro Gun, Some are Pro Tyranny. What image does one want to project to either camp?

2. Responsible Folks are not supposed to knee jerk react.

3. If you look like Prey you will be eaten Clint Smith.

4. Think.

Mom's neighborhood had deteriorated over the years. Not long ago I was over at mom's and a situation occurred next door. I called LEO direct and met them away from her house/ neighborhood , at Wendy's. Why? Simple, I did not need the LEO's showing up and these youth's seeing my vehicle present, and figuring whom called the LEO's. I did not NEED for mom to be a target of revenge. These Youths are very very prone to "payback".

I have spent a lot of time:
1) Educating Mom and Awareness.
2) Installing Motion Detectors Front and Back, Automated Garage Door Opener, Better locks on Front Door - a Heavy metal door I might add - this was not an option ( she fussed at the price...she finally gave up the argument, seems I am more hard-headed than she ever dreamed. :D)
4.Patio door has had holes drilled into top and bottom rails, l-o-n-g Nails inserted into these and there is NO WAY that door is coming off and out of tracks. It will have to be broken in order to gain entry.
5.Ditto on the windows.
[Yes she gripes about the extra work required to get these open, then she remembers the "Education" , "Awareness" and "Responsible" talks.
5. NO heavy objects left outside to bust any windows or doors.
6. New heavier , beefier door and LOCKS for the door allowing access to under the house.
7. Timer set to turn on lights and radio. Timers in some rooms are used in normal everyday use, some are for when she is going to coming in late.

With a garage - really hard to tell if "that old lady is home", add the lights and she is NOT Predictable...or less so.

Mom lives on a Cul-de-sac. Mom's Motion detector have CUT DOWN some of the traffic I feel were folks casing the neighborhood. Some Neighbors installed these Motion Lights, after noticing the lessened traffic.

That is shameless plugbeing Responsible and Leading by example That is what TFL is all about.

Mom only has a fence on two sides. Mom is planning on retiring, she naturally is watching her money. The idea I am working on - is finding two "gates" that from the street will give the appearance the back yard is fenced in. I know where I can get a Dog House for Free. Dog house will be placed visible from street, Mom will Have Harvey the Invisible Dog :D to assist in keeping her secure. Hey - cheaper that what fence costs for two sides... :p

Here in AR, it is NOT legal to shoot someone after dark for stealing property.

Folks, do you realize how much Money, time and legalese is involved in Court Proceedings? Even if one is in the right. There is always that "payback" to be concerned with to.

Nope for what has been Spent on Gas/surgar/water, and a $80 plus whatever loss of time...

Monies and time would have gone a LONG way in not looking like a victim.

FWIW, I have an Aunt in a bedroom community outside of Houston. My cousin is LEO, darn good one too. His son in in the Sandbox. Now b/t her son the LEO and her grandson the Soldier, who is back temporarily ...all the suggestions to make her home more secure fell on my aunt's deaf ears.

Aunt talks to her sister ( my mom) and now wants all these security ideas done to her home. Must be a "Mom Thing" - not wanting to listen to their kids...

LEO cousin :Gee mom, Aunt so and so ( my mom) sure is smart, wonder why I didn't think of this stuff ?. I'll get right to her suggestions" . :p

Word I got was some youths do NOT hang around my Aunts neighborhood like they did. Oh sure the Motion dectectors and all probably had a lot to do with it...

Then again there were her grandson in Desert Camo some of his friends in Desert Camo, The LEO son and some of his LEO friends all pitching in and doing ths Security stuff .

Youths must think there is a Neighborhood Police Sub station and Marine Compound sub station or something.... :p

" they don't drive up and down the street at night like they used to..."

oystermick, your comments were out of line. 9mm is just frustrated which is understandable and when someone gets frustrated, they tend to overreact, simple human nature (not that 9mm is overreacting mind you).

My comments were out of line also. Wasn't advocating violence as the answer but I didn't express myself well, sadly, that is also human nature.

Also, many people aren't taking into account that maybe 9mm doesn't have the money to do all the ideas that we are advocating. Not all of us are rich or have spare cash just laying around for such things, no matter how cheaply they can be gotten from wally world or such.

Me, I'm going to try (starting today) to be less critical of others and to be more understanding and trying to help if I can. I can't take back what I've done in the past but that doesn't mean that I have to continue the same in the present/future.

One of my talents, if I chose to use it the right way, is to be filled with knowledge, somewhat limited, in most things. Things that I pick up from multiple places, so therefore I could have an answer that one is seeking, or give them direction on where to go for an anwser.

But I will still take the occusional "dig" at members that I really enjoy (like Wild and Spiffy) but to ensure that they know that I am j/k and not serious.

Now, back to 9mm's problem. The only answer that I can come up with takes money, either buy a new shed with a lockable door or to fence in the yard with locking gates. Other than that, make room somehow in the garage to store the mower and tools. You'd be amazed how you can organize so that you have more room. Try that, take a weekend (or your time off work) and create a space.

USP45usp, not to get into a skunk fight here, but I suggest you take care of your own behavior and refrain from scolding others. I stated my opinion and I stand fast on that opinion.

refrain from scolding others

It's the job of the members to bring up to another if they are doing wrong, can be perceived as wrong, or inappropriate.

I have been scolded myself by others, I wish they would do it more often. We police our own and the mods/admins should only have to police those that are way out of line.

We all have our opinions but this:

you come across as a cranky old man with too much time available who wants to go to war with children. If you're unable or unwilling to secure your property against 10 year olds, you should just quietly accept you're impotence and quit whining.

Can be perceived as a personal attack, at least I took it that way but I may be over sensitive because I like 9mmSnoopy.

As for my own affairs, if I step out of line, I feel grateful when someone mentions my mistake (and thusly goes about correcting it) and if I step too far out of line then the mods/admins will take the actions needed to either warn me, or to ensure that I am no longer a member of the board.

And what do you think will happen when the punks use the gas and realize that you baited them?

You might want to expect a lock of bullets from a 9mm glock in your windows and car if you do this, sounds like you live in a bad neighborhood.

Secure your stuff, stay armed. Make it hard to get to your stuff and they will move on.

sugar,sugar

Sugar does not dissolve in gas,you can take the valve cover off an engine and pour it in and won't do squat, pouring the sugar in the gas tank will go to the bottom of the tank-depending on where the fule filter is in the vehicle may stop it up.Vale tech has done studies on this,I work for an insurance company and see this all the time...You'll find out quick which dealership service depts are full of it..
