So I was looking for a .22 in the $175-200 range for my daughter and I failed in an epic fashion.

We went to Dicks and all they had was a synthetic stock in black for $259...nah, we can do better. Lets go to the LGS and see what they have, maybe we can get a used one on the cheap.

Not so much...the sales guy was good ..."what color would you like"

Me...wood

Him...green, pink, or purple

my daughter...daddy I love that green one

I GOT PLAYED.

So we end up with a green laminate 10-22 with fiber optics and a sore wallet ...$289

She loves shooting it....priceless...

I dont think you got played just yet.

Once she gets the matching set in revolvers, you got played!

I have seen far worse color schemes for guns. Sounds like its gonna get your daughter involved in shooting. So really where you got played is one more gun to supply ammo for.:p

That looks good and kudos to you and your daughter. She likes the color! Perhaps she will want to shoot all the more. You didn't get played, you invested in the bond between you and your child. :)

She'll love it better with a Volquartsen hammer. It will reduce the trigger pull.

Then add a red dot sight.

my 4 year old just about talked me into an AR @ <large sporting goods store>

Gravitated right toward the Evil Black Rifles, and said, "Why can't we get one of these ones?"

I bet if I showed her a pink Cricket she'd go for it, but still, this princess has some badass in her.

So far all I have achieved are air rifles for all the kiddos. A pink one for my girl of course. Im working on the .22 platform though. And I think crickets would be a great place to start.

We have the same problem except its Grand kids, Well on our way building custom 10/22,cant belive the things the boy likes had to see it on some kind of war games.:D

You didn't get played. A 10/22 for $200 in a brick & mortar store is a rare find. Besides, you still need to get the red dot and the Single Six with the matching green grips! :D

Thanks for all the replies.

I was being a bit tongue in cheek in the "getting played" portion as I didnt want to pay more then $200* but am satisfied with the end result.

Just for clarification, although I call her a kid she is 17 and headed off to college in the fall. Even though I have owned a 12ga and 9mm for years I have just started "shooting" in the past few years...I am very happy that she shares the interest with me.

SHe loves shooting a range rental AR15 but I don't like the cost of ammo hence the 10-22.

BTW we took it to the range the other day and she loved it...have to work on her form to get her groups tighter but we had a great time together.

*ETA...not necessarily a 10-22, just a .22 rifle

About a year ago today I picked up the purple compact for $209.00 plus tax, but then the guy cut off 10% for .MIL discount (which was very nice). Bought it the week after I got home from Iraq. Ended up buying a another 1022 for myself and building it up.

My daughter has not seen it since she is still a little to young turns 6 this week, but I hope for next year or two BDAY to be able to present it to her. For the price, I think I did good. Glad your daughter enjoys it. Quite the color. Wish her the best of luck at college.

10-22

MONKEY-95 This will be the best $289 you have ever spent, You could have just made your self a lifetime shooting partner and that would be great, you could not do better than that. I got my Son a rifle 5th Xmas and we have shot togather every since. He has deen my shooting partern for the last 40 yrs. Now he watches out for me. My Son is my best friend and I could not wait to give him that rifle so maney years ago. He still has it. Best of luck with your girl, you to can really build something speical, sounds like you to are well on your way. GOOD LUCK TO YOU: ken
