I am so sick of it...

...and by "it" I mean all these "I bought my first gun" threads were the guns are way too nice. If I have to read one more thread were some young punk says " I got my first gun today it is a Dan Wesson CBOB." or "It is a Sig P229." I am going to burst a blood vessle. What happened to the good old days were you had to work your way up from complete pieces of junk to something that nice. These guys need to be made to go out and buy a Jennings and then a work their way up to Taurus before getting guns like these. That way they appreciate it more. Darn no good kids. :D ;) :)

I just got my first gun and it's a Colt Anaconda! My FFL was a little difficult to deal with, but I'm glad I finally got it!

:D

Hey i resemble that comment, just because I bought my FNP-9 from my dad for a great price and it rocks doesn't mean you should be jealous... well, maybe a little it:D

My first handgun was a 6-inch S&W model 17 K-22, with target trigger, target hammer and adjustable sights. First handgun I ever bought was a S&W 686, .357 Mag, 6-inch, with adjustable sights.

(I got my Taurus' and Jennings later... and still have 'em, too!)

Now that is priceless!!!

My first handgun was a p89 which I still have. It is very accurate but it isn't a work of art like a CBOB or a P229 IMHO.

But I have to say PBP, if I were younger and didn't care to know any better, after I looked at your fine collection of firearms, I would buy a P229 as well. Most youngsters are still supported by Mommie and Daddy. They can go out and spend money anyway they want to and their parents will bail them out. Atleast that is what I have seen with a few people around where we live.

Just because you dont have much money doesnt mean you have to settle

for junk.My first handgun purchase was a Colt 1909 back in 1980 for

$50,first milsurp rifle a G43 for $175.In 1980 dollars i think it was alot,today

a CZ82 for $159 is a bargain.

Hmmm....my first handgun was a Ruger RST-6. Not exactly a Gold Cup, but it was exactly what I wanted and I love it to this day. I'd actually recommend perusing these boards and deciding what handguns to handle and possibly shoot at rental ranges. Some of these kids are doing just that and it makes me smile and think we're not in all that much trouble afterall.

And then I'll talk to my socialist niece.................

First handgun was a H&R 922 9 shot revolver in 22 LR bought at a San Diego gun store in 1969. It has been a reliable gun and it has fed many dogs with many jack rabbits but you have to remember to hold 12" low and 10" left at about 30' if you are going to hit the mark and the awful sights are hard to see in almost any but perfect light. It was what a poor sailor could afford and it was needed because of the neighborhood we lived in, fights, shootings, knifing, clubbings, we were broke into once and most of our neighbors in our apartment complex had also been broken into. Wife needed something, it wasn't much but it beat a pointed stick. It would have qualified as a Saturday night special going by the soft frame material and the low cost. Now I pull it out once or twice a year and shoot a 25 yard target with it just for old times sake.

I think it's a waste of money for a new shooter to buy a premium firearm.

Something well-built and reliable and accurate... but not necessarily a collectible or overly unique in the marketplace.

Glock, Sig, Ruger, Smith, CZ, FN, have at it.

N00Bs, please stay away from the VBOB/CBOBs, the K-frame .357's, any Colt revolver, Sig P210's and custom 1911's. You don't know enough to appreciate them for what they are, you'll scratch 'em or brake parts on 'em or fail to care for them properly and end up ruining them from ignorance or neglect and you'll take them off the market for more experienced gun owners to appreciate.

Elitist? You betcha.

I've played guitar for a long time. In college, a buddy of mine decided he wanted to learn, so he went out and bought a Guild BluesBird and a matching Guild dreadnought. $3000 worth of guitars for a beginner student. He played for about a year. Got pot-smoke in the body of the dreadnought. Didn't care for them because he didn't understand their real worth to a musician who could appreciate the playability and tone improvements they offer over a typical Yamaha or Ibanez quality student guitar.

That's where that outlook comes from, and it ain't likely to change.

Should there be a law against buying a premium gun as a first? Of course not. But there should be some common sense on the part of the first-time buyer.

My first handgun was... don't laugh... a Targa GT-25. Ugly little .25ACP Beretta knockoff that sold new for not much over $50 back then, IIRC.

Dude, your entire rant is a step by step and line by line tutorial on how nice guns find their way from new & high retail to lightly used and heavily discounted and pre-owned.

Maroons fill up the cases with quality used handguns for the rest of us to pick through! :D I say, keep on keepin' on!

if a middle-aged man buys his first gun and it's nice, does that still count?
or is it only all those "young punks" that need to buy crappy guns?

does a nice/first gun make you any worse of a shooter?
any less responsible?

what If I'm one of those "no good punk kids" (22 yrs. old) and I've never had a home defense weapon before. I have my first child, and not very long after that, my neighbor 2 doors down snaps and starts shooting at cops and firefighters with an AK-47, and not too long after that someone tries to break in my house.

am I still required to start off with a crappy, unreliable gun that most people would never trust their lives to in order to earn your respect?
or can I just go ahead and buy a Glock? I sure wouldn't want to upset anyone on any internet forums, because someone's comments on an internet forum is the perfect way to judge the caliber of their person.

sarcastic? you betcha'!

this thread is ridiculous

My first handgun was a no name nickel plated POS .22 with a fake mother of pearl handle. I got it for 5$ and was severely ripped off at that price.

There's more to the story but it makes me look even stupider.

My next purchase was a Browning High Power for $200. Much better deal and that was retail.

re: guy in New Orleans with trouble in the neighborhood

See the original post.
See the three little smilie guys at the end of the post. :D ;) :)
See the tongue in cheek nature of the thread.

Lather, rinse, repeat. Most of us come here to enjoy ourselves. I think, with a little patience, you might be able to do that also.

A Glock ain't what we're talking about here.

Go ahead and get a Glock/Springer/S&W/Ruger/FN/CZ/KelTec/Kahr/HK/Sig/whatever.

But cap what you spend around $750 or so. You don't know what you want yet since you don't have any experience with higher end firearms.

First gun Ruger Blackhawk back in 1975 and yes I am sorry I sold it and wish I still had it. Still have my second gun purchased a S&W 10-7 snub nose purchased in 1981.
Dude, it's a joke. Relax
.
Somebody has their shorts all bound up? Yep, sure does sound that way
