I am SO far behind....

I was picking up my latest acquisition the other day, and I saw the next gun I want hanging on the wall. Does it ever end? We love our guns, and unlike spouses, we can have as many as we want (or can afford to be more realistic).

Aint that the truth.

I know somebody like that. He owns a lot of guns. Nice guns. Makes me jealous, but....Funny thing is, he doesn't shoot any of 'em particularly well. I figure you're better off shooting one (or two) guns really well vrs. not shooting a bunch of guns that you own well at all. JMHO.

Alot of these guys who own a lot of guns own 'em just for bragging rights and for no other reason. So O.K., they own a lot of guns. But I can still shoot my only .45 (the Kimber) better than they can shoot any one of their 15 .45's. ;) Funny how it works that way.

Oh yeah, and keep collecting 'em; buy 'em when you can.

The one who dies with the most toys wins.

That's the biggest bunch of hogwash I've ever heard. Ask any multi-millionaire who is dying of lung cancer how much his millions are worth while he can't catch a breath.....

I own a lot of guns (36 years collecting) and hardly ever shoot em, but not for braging rights however. It is an addiction for me, like a gambler hits the Casinos. I hit the gun stores. It has always made me happy. All are displayed and tagged in my gun room so I can view them all. (Like Uncle Scrooge swimming in his money vault.)

That's good, because I don't shoot any of my few guns particularly well. :D

It doesn't really matter how well I shoot 'em, anyway; I'm just jealous of people who have nice guns, don'tcha know....:(

Just picked up today a less than 50 rounds used CZ-P01 with box and 2 14 rd mags for $400 OTD

and

a 1910 Glisenti Auto (original sholder holster) in good shape cept I need a left grip for $300 OTD. There is an atrical on them in the GunsNAmmo Surplus Firearms mag that just came out. Worst military handgun of WW2....had to get it.

Life is good!!

I am late to respond. But I beg to differ. Our obsession with firearms is not unlike our spouses. It is part of the unwritten Constitution. As men are entitled to a new firearm for every pair of shoes our spouses buy. So I encourage her to buy more shoes; it entitles me to a closet full. :D

OP, just take your time and enjoy it. Most of us are here because we really enjoy collecting and shooting no matter what we have. If you had all this money to spend, you definately wouldn't be giving each of your hard-earned firearms the attention they deserve. They wouldn't mean as much to you, either.

Ok, enough of that. I think you should sabotage your boss, get him fired, then buy up all his guns when he's hard up for cash.. :D

Nica guns cost nice money

"Quality over quantity. Long story short, don't worry about it."

I'm with you there. I've only got a dozen, but none of them are clunkers. Total value? I'm guessing around $10K. I see no reason to get any more. .22, .38, 9mm, .357Mag, 12-gauge. I'd rather spend my money on ammo and shooting than collecting. I have none on my Christmas wish-list this year.

For me it has always been the journey; taking the time to look at guns, read about guns, handle guns, talk with people about guns, and then buy another to try it out. Although sometimes I do just happen to walk out of a gun shop with a gun that I had never really thought much about or intended to buy!

I have some "keepers" which have been with me a while and proven themselves to me. Then I have several "trial guns" or the most recent acquisitions that are still trying to prove themselves; most end up traded or sold for the next "trial gun".

I have never had a huge collection, just my "keepers"/the old tried and true and my "trials"/something new. Keeps it interesting for me.

I never planned to accumulate them. It just seems like I go into most any gun shop I'm driving past and have a look at the used stuff. And they just keep following me out the door. It's the same with reloading tools and components.

Finally it got to the point where the only sensible place to keep them is in "the gun room." There's other stuff in there, like binoculars, camping gear, outdoor clothing, but mostly it's the "gun room."

Last thing I bought was a .458 Win. Mag. -- and not a lot of elephants here locally, and a 1858 Rem. revolver, stainless Pietta which I haven't ever fired.

And I do the same thing with knives, boots.

I like my guns,I shoot my guns, that makes work for me when I have to clean them.

Everything you own makes work for you.

So I'll enjoy my modest, easy to care for gun collection.

Less work for me.

But I will admit, that one picture of that one guys collection here that looks like a gun museum makes me smile everytime I see it.

I don't feel like I'm behind anyone. The purpose of my collection is not to impress anyone other than myself. That said, it is a work in progress that will be on-going as long as I'm healthy enough to shoot firearms, and I expect that to be many decades. :D I definitely have no interest in owing 7-8 of the same type of gun, I like different guns for different purposes.

I can see how some outsiders may think of it as a disease, but I do enjoy having vast quantities and varieties of ammo. I'm easily more guilty of blowing $$$ on ammo than guns in recent years. The fact that certain guns and ammo could suddenly become impossible to legally buy or become scarce and therefore expensive next year absolutely affects my outlook.

B.N. Real---

Have you ever seen XavierBreath's collection? LOL. He can't show it all at once.
